I was 16 in Perth when this film was made. We had a wonderful life with the river, the beach and all you see in this film. Simpler days...yes. Innocent days...yes. But wonderful memories.

Mum told me stories from when she lived in Freo just behind the Left Bank. She said the water was crystal blue. Full of blue manna crabs and when they went prawning they had to give away as much as they ate.

The River may well have been clearer in the past, although as i understand it the brown colour comes from the tannin in the leaves that fall in the river up stream, so the river ends up becoming like a big cup of tea.

Keep uploading these films for the thousands that appreciate them :). These PIONEERS made this country available for all the bludgers that have turned up since and take it for granted. There was NO free lunch for the pioneers like my grandfather in Dalwallinu / Buntine.

@Travel Girl They the Australian Pioneers from Europe, Scotland were given grants to land but they had to clear it. Between clearing and farming the land, my Grandfather fought in Gallipoli WWI and also volunteered in a clerical way in the Airforce in WWII.

It was certainly isolated. It either 4-5 days by train or 2 weeks by ship to Melbourne or Sydney . Most of the road east was dirt and planes were expensive. But it was great growing up there in the 60s. The outdoor lifestyle and miles of beaches with blue skies and bright sun is what I remember most.

The government films from this time frequently omitted Indigenous people and culture in their films dealing with "general" Australia. Where Indigenous people were included they were regarded more as a novelty and redundant culture. Interestingly, Ian Dunlop, the director of this film would go on a few years later to push the restrictions placed on the government film units and create two excellent and highly regarded series involving Indigenous people and culture; People Of The Australian Western Desert and Yirrkala.

Life in Western Australia for me is boring. From my experience in living for 12 years it isint really exciting now i want to get visa to The 🇺🇸!

Of course not. It’s idyllic in comparison to most of the other capital cities in the world and it’s also very family friendly and relaxing. I don’t think “exciting” has been the selling point for Perth, it’s got its own appeal, especially in 2020-2021 💙
