All of the glues have "holding" time and then the curing time. The marketed time is most often holding time, so the thing is held but the glue is pretty far away from being cured. For example the Liquid Nails Projects Construction Adhesive (solvent based) has 10 minutes working time and will hold 250psi shear strength after 24 hours, but that shear strength will go up to 400 psi in 7 days. CA glues often hold after seconds but most of them take 24 hours to cure and CA gels up to 48 hours. The 3M 5200 has curing rate of 3mm/24h but that depends on the surface area in touch with air. Gorilla glue has 60 minute holding time and it should be dry after 24 hours but it's PU glue so the polymer strengthens still after dry and maximum strength is often reached after 48 hours. Then you have something like Sikaflex which will hold after couple of hours and has curing rate of ~3.5mm/24h but the final strength is gained after a month of applying.

So, I’m a polymer chemist for 3M; there are two things going on here it appears: one, PTFE (Teflon is a brand name) has one of the lowest commercial grade surface tensions, which is why it’s so hard for things to stick to it, this also appears to have texture to it, so you have both chemical and physical release properties, which is extremely hard for an adhesive to stick to. The 8010 was a really good choice, but I’m not surprised it didn’t make a stronger bond because of the physical part. I think the rest of the options didn’t surprise me as well, especially the silicone caulk as silicone is the next best option for low surface energy that doesn’t contain a fluorocarbon group.

I have used most of these in the past. The 3m is by far the best, in my opinion. That being said. I worked on a home for one of the top people at 3m and never got paid my final. The contractor or rather person playing contractor flat ripped me off. Destroyed my business and my family. I even left the Island that I called home for 45 years. So there is that. If I wouldn't have been fighting threw a divorce I would have had my day in Cort. All that aside. 3M IS good company. If I had it to do over I would have put TB the contractor in prison. I found out he was altering my invoices and contract in order to stay under budget. With no regard to my life or my family.

This is a really cool idea for a test! Non-stick pans drive me crazy since most aren’t truly non-stick. I love cooking eggs and make omelets quite often, and it took years to find a pan that is as close to non-stick as possible. Even it isn’t perfect, but I can usually get an omelet to slide right out of the pan. It’s an "Original Green Pan." I make sure to never overheat it, because overheating seems to be the kryptonite that destroys any non-stick pan. Cooking eggs over lower heat allows better control over how the eggs come out, anyway. Overcooked eggs aren’t great.

Volvo had an anaerobic sealant that they use in their 3.2 inline 6 camshaft covers when doing a head gasket job. You should find a specific anaerobic glue to use. That's a glue that sets up in an oxygen free environment so it would set up the reverse of what the liquid nails did, hard in the center, gooey on the outside.

@dervwfahrer No, this can glue solid blocks of Teflon together... It basically works by both creating a rough surface for mechanical keying of the adhesive, but also a primer treatment that activates the surface and allows the glue to actually form bonds vs just relying on mechanical keying.. It's not meant to bond things to frying pans and I was just pointing out that there is a product designed specifically to bond teflon. If you were to try it on a frying pan and were careful enough to not etch right through the coating, and prep'ed everything right, I have a feeling that it would peel the coating off the metal of the pan...

How about a two part epoxy resin? Would be interesting to see if the pan can be like a silicone mold.

If you do this again, would be good to have something that can measure the amount of force you are lifting with, and put some actual numbers to each adhesive.

Well, somehow they glued the non-stick coating to the pan itself. so I'd guess that somehow you could get something to stick to it.

You should try the uv resin with more transparent type of filament in the 3d print so the uv can get to it
