A similar approach is to use a bow & arrow to carry the fishing line up & over. The solid fiberglass arrows made for bow fishing work well because they're heavy enough to fall down through tree limbs. We've been to Utah twice to visit the Mighty Five national parks...beautiful country & we will visit there again. Moab is a fun little town.

Max, have you ever attempted to get the fishing line up and over the trees with your drone? I have tried the fishing pole and am just not a very good aim! Spend WAY too much time getting the line where I want it to go. Tried the arborists toss bag/line and tennis ball gun. I like the idea Robin has below with the bow (or even a crossbow). Seems to me that there is so much more greater control potential with a drone and you could get the antenna even higher. I have the same A-D DX-CC antenna and would like to get it higher up, more than 25 feet! Great camping location! Hopefully this year's air quality is/was better for your trip.

Hi Mark, I haven't tried the drone or bow and arrow method... or the slingshot method, but I know they are popular. For me the fishing pole has been my go-to. I usually get the cast over the part of the tree on 1 to 3 attempts. I have done this for years. It would be interesting to try one of the other methods, but I have never failed with my fishing pole setup. Having flown a few drones... on the smaller end, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get the peak of the fishing like above the tree and drop it. You must get that completely over the tree to then pull up a heavier cord like paracord, which I use. Even the weight of the mono filament line might impact the drone control, but I know those bigger drones have serious lifting effort. That is so much more gear than my simple fishing pole and old tire weight. :) The bow and arrow would be interesting... yet, sometimes you need to limit the distance as you go over the tree, so I have seen that as problematic too, but again, I can't speak to it. The tennis ball cannon seems way over complicated to... you need compressed air etc... and a recharge to try again... just sounds way over complicated. I'm pretty good after time with the fishing pole setup. Yes, this year up camping (and I didn't take a station up which was a mistake because NAQP conditions were excellent, so my mistake) the air was perfect. Wow, when I revisit the video, it still is an eye opener as to how back things were. Murdock Basin had a fire going too, but I think most of that smoke was from the out of state fires that made the air quality miserable for weeks. Thanks for watching! Max NG7M
