a classic Japanese Kiradashi is AKA as the "SLEEVE KNIFE", when it is used where a larger blade, read a Sword such as a KATANA, or WAKIZASHI, or either ones of the two swords known as a daishō, would be considering inappropriate, for cutting loose threads, or opening a tied closed basket or package. the KIRIDASHI is the "utility knife" used in it's place.
