The producers involved with the Netflix film said that they put a pause on production because they felt like the similarities between The Divisions story and recent events of covid 19 were hitting too close to home, but in my opinion, that meant they were doing the right thing. What makes this game and its world so compelling is just how close to our own real world it is and I think that it does say alot about how we'd deal with an ongoing catastrophe, how ill prepared we are, and the potential conflict to be had in our struggle to survive. I think both film and media could benefit greatly from taking chances in storytelling, the outcomes could be quite profound. Add. Note: I'd like to mention that in such a situation we'd be incredibly lucky to have an organization such as the division dedicated (for the most part) to ensuring public safety and taking on the assholes and opportunists who want to, either implicitly or not, make the situation worse for everyone.

2019-2022 made me witness the worst of what people can do to each other. I worked at Walgreens as a pharmacy technician in Midwest America from 2020-2021. The shit I saw on a weekly basis was astounding. People telling me I'm part of the bill gates conspiracy or seeing the mad rush for toilet paper. Having to do virus tests on people through the drive thru. I won't forget seeing a family of 4 drive up looking like death was knocking on their doorstep. I could go on and on. It still scares me to this day thinking about it. People still ask me how I felt about it when they heard I worked during that time. Honestly if the virus was just a little bit more deadly and a bit more contagious it would've been worse than what we saw.

Sorry you had to go through that. Me and my little family keep to ourselves, we knew and heard about what "super furry unicorn kitties" virus can do and how it was affecting everyone worldwide. We're just now getting things back to or very close to pre-pandemic life. However I think if a virus as deadly as the dollar flu would emerge, we'd be toast, We may not have a real SHD but we do have Department of Homeland Security, I wonder if the gov really does have special agents in place Incase this happens like in the events of the division. We also saw some hope in those 3 years. For the most part, countries cooperated with each other. The science hippies were doing science hippy things, and the majority of us listened to reasons and came out on the other end well and sound, as well as our loved ones, for the vast amount of us at least. There were nutcases, there have always been nutcases and always will be. But despite that, I'm still sitting in my office, watching a youtube video about a game and looking forward to the next new game like nothing has happened. Thats a win in my book. Covid has made a lot of the nutcases more visible, and in a weird way, did us a favor. It also made the ones who care about us and their community more visible too.

Even in other fields it was hectic. I work with my brother in laying electrical lines and repair/replacing current ones, during a local lockdown where we lived the local govs still had guys like us working to the bone while covered in clothing to make sure we don't get sick while on site. During a few of our jobs many people came to us to get out of their yards and such because electrical lines were on their land. Some were bad and assholish but both me and coworkers saw they were all just scared people and doing something to protect their homes and trying to keep their families safe with what they had. Truthfully I'd be scared too if I saw guys that looked like the CLEANERS working on electrical lines in the backyard XD.

People for the most part will go crazy as soon as something brings them back to reality. I am 44 and while I am far from a prepper I can see some merits to what they do. I had to stop playing division 2 as I grew up in a suburb of DC and it was too close for comfort to hear about everything and escape into the what if worst-case scenario. The truth about the dollar flu is that the sheer lethality and quick incubation rate would have helped decrease the spread of the virus. Having lived close to NIH Bethesda and USAMRIID in the past I have lived with, the fears of something nasty coming this way long before the Division came out. Being single I would have eaten a 180gr cure-all (Short and Whimpy)and called it a day if things got bad enough. Hope and something to fight for is how people survive things like this. This is the crutch of the prepper lifestyle, is that all it does is buy you time to figure things out. No one can prep forever nor can one man be an island. It takes a community for humans to thrive. Look at what happened during Katrina as people started putting up roadblocks to keep refugees out of their area, gun confiscations by police and this was a national disaster vs a biological one. The first thing those in power are going to do is protect themselves and F everyone else.

Funny thing is all of this stuff from the game came from a real situation called Operation Dark winter. More so itself there have been documented table top mock wargame operations where the government and other organizations simulated what would happened during a bio attack. This occured more than 5-6 Times over the past couple of years. In more recent years before covid there was something called EVENT 201 that was held overseas that included the bill and melinda gates foundation, WHO, WEF, the military, and a bunch of other organizations. Everything you saw during the pandemic was wargamed. Even right down to the type of virus that was going to "escape on accident". You have to ask yourself how did THEY know the very specifics of the pandemic? All the stuff about lockdowns, mandates, forced vaccinations,"flooding the zone", censorship of competing views on the subject, all of it was scripted a head of time as if they planned it or dare say it, a small group of them at the top released it on purpose in order to push forward their agenda. Thats just me. When you have entire movement that basically censored not only regular people but also other scientist and doctors, people who got threatened with their medical license getting taken away for speaking up, That should be a real red flag showing you who the real bad guys are and how massive this all was. I’ve watched a vid by Lemmino called “Consumed by the Apocalypse” and one of the sections of that vid is unnatural pandemics. Clips of old recordings of a meeting discussion with American doctors and scientists in 2005 said that it is possible bioengineered viruses can be created, but very difficult to pull it off, even if it’s a team of the best scientists, trying to transmit the virus or spreading it without suspicion is very difficult. But not impossible. And I thought The Division had an interesting take of an apocalypse scenario being more realistic, instead of every generic apocalypse game where zombies had to be included (Except Last Of Us’s unique take on infected humans). It also reminded me of a UK tv show that I’ve watched on KZbin recently that had the same plot themes of the division, the virus being the main threat. Obscure but really brilliant, it’s called Utopia. A 2013 show that recently had their full series re uploaded to KZbin. The show even has some parallel elements of the division, like a sleeper cell shadow org called the network, etc. I don’t mind this. Something interesting to think of here.

I think covid taught a lot of people some key life lessons. Most people don't keep enough food, water and other essential goods in their homes the way that they should. I was raised with the mindset that you keep a stocked pantry and be prepared for natural disasters. I never had to panic buy booty tissue lol. the TP shortage was due to the fact that people radically changed their diets under lockdown restrictions. Retort and canned food started flying off the shelves. With no one working to replace what was sold led to shortages in the supply.

I decided to get back into Emergency Medicine in December of 2019. Since I had been out for so long,I had to start from square one. Before Spring Break in 2020, we had to turn in a paper on an emerging health crisis NOT IN THE US, and how we anticipated the US could handle it. Not gonna lie, the fact that the events of the division games and what happened in real life should serve as a warning to everybody and that can5 rely on the existing infrastructure at all to get you through. not only that I work in a grocery retail store and it REALLY brought out the absolute WORST in people over the simplest of items. I've already been a huge fan of the story of the game and once it happened that only sealed the deal. The gameplay of the Division was one I was never super excited about. I remember that the toilet paper shortage started in Australia. I also remember a few protests in a state in said country that took precautions to not be a "super spreader" event but was brutally targeted by both mainstream media and state government where an afgan vet was hit by 5 or 6 clips of rubber projectiles after trying to convince the protesters to disperse. Please note I really appreciate your video. The following is just my attempt to help not get you (further) restricted because rules KZbin has about this. Some words are not written, but hopefully the point still comes across. It is frightening how people reacted to things. I wasn't super on board the enforcement to control the spread, but I was as hell not against it and believing the crap some folks were saying. We had hospitals that were crippled by sick people. With those not tied to the (at time) current illness not able to get help. We also (where I live) had millions of dollars of equipment disappear... or thrown out because someone didn't see the point in keeping a national stockpile to help fight such an event. You hit the nail on the fact that a lot of those misinformation influencers were just in it for the money. Others trying to cash in to make a buck as middle men because supplies were low. And others just making out right out criminal cash grabs that still haven't been investigated. I worry for our future. Someone or some group can look at how poorly things were handled and either because of greed, hate, or some other reason, make the whole system come crashing down in the future. Man is our own worst enemy at times. To think a game predicted (not as horrible) how bad things can get.

I'm still watching the video, but I just wanted to share my experience about the moment I realised that COVID was a serious thing, and that was when I saw the hospital ship in New York, on the news, it instantly reminded me of the first Division game where there is also a hospital ship in New York, obviously in that it had sunk but it was kind of freaky that it was basically the same place, so this really had me worried, of course I knew COVID was bad at the time but it was seeing that when I realised that it was bad.

I ended up working on a project for an grad class and the professor thought it was awesome for me to make a presentation about how it would be impossible for Amherst to complete his goals because his connection to Vataly would ring alarm bells for the FBI & DOJ. IRL, the FBI would increase their surrveillance on Amherst through social media because previously Amherst made a few University Campuses have riots breakout over his speeches. Two, Vataly is Russian with clearance to the Russian Government. Given with everything with RussiaGate, the FBI would already have him under some sort of surrveillance already under the use of the FISA Court. Three, after what we've learned from Amerithrax in 2002, a simple theft or leak of Smallpox vial can put everyone on full alert to where Amherst would have been suspected as the culprit for the theft and his face would be BOLO all over the media.

While playing in 2020 I thought the Dark Zones no longer made sense given how the US responded to C-19. In hindsight, trying to isolate people in a quarantine zone makes no sense, given how many they'd have already infected by the time symptoms appeared. Here in the US the general policy was self isolation unless EMS care was needed. However I later heard what some other countries were doing to their people, in a bid to try and stop the spread, and the idea seemed less crazy. Take into account the MUCH higher mortality rate of the games virus and I could see even the more lax governments trying it...if only out of desperation to stem panic.

Til this day in 2024 I still feel mongered by fear over a possible future like this and Ive been making preparations just in case such an event occurs in the real world. Although even if In that case I might just be manic super fearful and just really paranoid but because of videos like this even til now by the time I’m commenting this even if the flu and virus has drastically died out I’m not taking risks if in the very near future another one hits our cities and families. I may just seem psychologically unwell for doomsday prepping so early on but I’m only just trying to prepare professionally logically for a day where such a post apocalypse virus might be too strong and where all our governments may be overwhelmed overpowered but this might just be me being super scared as a young person but hey I’d rather play it safe and try my best to prep myself for a day where and when I’d have to sacrifice so much for survival I hope a time like that never comes I hope not

It's interesting that you talk about the 2006 preparation plans that the US had for a pandemic. I actually read that it was the Bush administration that first created them in the wake of the 2001 attacks and they'd been regularly updated ever since. But the Trump administration, despite having the plans, chose not to implement them. Which I think is another potential hurdle here. Despite all the preparations that are made, if a government has plans but for whatever political reason chooses not to implement them, or if they do but not until it's too late, that can be just as problematic. But it's interesting to compare the Spanish flu pandemic post WWI with our current pandemic. Many of the same things happened including people protesting about having to wear masks. The difference was that many of the people who attended those rallies became sick and died whereas here, because the virus could often be completely asymptomatic, people could still have the belief that it was all a big hoax. Honestly we may have an incredible world where we can play video games with people on the other side of the planet, but in many ways our society is far more fragile than people imagine. The vast majority of people rely on unknowingly long and complex supply chains that, if something bad happened, could quickly collapse. Unfortunately it's an all too possible scenario that could land us exactly where the universe of The Division puts us. But sometimes it's better to just not think about it. Super interesting video. I could get way down the rabbit hole on this subject but no one wants that. Needless to say humans will always be ill prepared for situations like this due to....sadly human nature. There will always be those that panic too quickly, those who try to profit from it, those who try to ignore it and those ho don't know what to do or think. There are of course more types to this but I'm keeping this simple. It's simply not possible to have everyone, even in just a single city, work together towards a common goal without problems. That being said the pandemic model Ubisoft had built has a glaring flaw the same one as super fluffy unicorn kittens...it can't account for natural immune systems which differ from person to person. As well I'm old enough to have gotten a smallpox vaccine as a kid along with other vaccines. Meaning I have a huge added defense with my immune system that millions of others have as well. Side note: prepping for bad situations has always been a wise lifestyle goal for generations.
