Having a good heart, devotion, and bodhichitta is the basis of the Dzogchen view of the nature of the mind. Continually deepening our practice of the four renunciation thoughts and ngondro is what settles our minds and absorbs the teachings into our hearts, revealing our natural qualities of love, compassion, and wisdom. With this foundation, we practice additional Dzogchen meditation techniques according to a more elaborate scholarly way, or in a simpler yogi or yogini style.
Khenpo Rinpoche gave this teaching during the Richo Mountain Retreat at Padma Samye Ling on April 5, 2011.
