AMAZING SOUND! | PZL M-18 Dromader - Cockpit Tour, Start-Up, Takeoff, Low Passes | Mosquito Control

A few days ago i had an opportunity to film something that i never have before... some agricultural aviation action! 4 PZL-Mielec M-18 Dromader crop dusters and 2 An-2s were used in a mosquito control action in the fields and areas around and in Belgrade. In this video i will only focus on the Dromader, An-2 will come in some upcoming videos.
Anyways, it is not an everyday thing to see radial piston engines in action. Nearly 1000hp of pure, earth shaking power! The pilots were very kind to let me film from so up close, and inside one of the planes.
Enjoy in this amazing sound, and quite an interesting sight!

2000 liters capacity in the hopper. Cockpit cage stressed to about 20 Gs. Ag pilots the world over are the best. My first real job was loading ag chemicals and fueling a Rockwell Thrush Commander. Nothing like those old radial engined beasts. Don’t see many with radials anymore-turboprops have largely replaced them. The bird I serviced had a 600 hp radial from a T-6 trainer.

My cousin had a flying service in Arkansas and had several Of these planes. I flagged many hours under Ag Cats, Ah Tractors, etc. nothing like the roar of a radial engine passing over.

The sound of the engine is ok, as expected on any radial engine, however I’m still debating how efficient this crop duster is… one nozzle on each engine to spray on crops and flying too high. It seems like a waste to me . And I just realized this video is old … at any rate, very inefficient!!

I remember seeing one on the ramp here in the USA, early 1990's. They are absolutely massive, compared to a Pawnee or an Air Tractor!

The one I flew had 1200 hp maximum lift capacity 6000 pounds it It had to be manhandled a little Great plane for large fields but it would kill you really fast

I started firebombing in radial Droms. Now turbine Garrett powered, the performance is up but the character of the piston radial is gone.
