Dave I love the way you explain what’s happening in such an informal but very educational way, David Attenborough comes to mind! Also the effort in putting the female in a larger floor space for a week or two shows such care and attention to give the best possible setting for a successful pairing. Fingers crossed that that pairing was a success. Thank you as always for making and sharing these videos. You show how amazing and fascinating these creatures are.👍❤️

Made me laugh at the thought of him looking over his shoulder to see if she was following. The size of her would make any spider look out to see if she was coming. Great video and excellent filming from the camera lady. I really like that you don’t put music in your content. It seems most people on here who do videos put load music and fancy images of the spiders feeding. It’s so nice to have a chilled out vibe.

So that just proves moving the spider from one cage to another is not too stressful when carried out by your methodology. If it was stressful, she would not be responsive to mating, and when she returned to her enclosure she would not drop an egg sack. Amazing.

@@daveslittlebeasties Even so, many academic scholars would rule against the practice, and I have personally seen some people on KZbin who would concur that the females should remain in their habitat as in the wild they are statice and it is the male that seeks her out. Other breeders of arachnids also have breeding tanks and have mixed results. Your gentle steady approach to the beastie ensures calm, relaxed animals. Like it is with many things there is a huge difference between book knowledge and experiential prowess. I’m reminded of a school experiment that went awry. My father farmed red earth worms and in another tub he had regular earthworms, we were learning in science that the earthworm breaks up the soil aerating it whilst taking the mulch down and mixing up the layers. In good faith to prove this, I brought in a container of each type of worms. We set up worm colonies in narrow ant farm boxes to see this in action. It turned out in reality neither the red nor the brown worms acted as per the text book. The worms in both farms remained in the top layer of soil and the partly decayed mulch which had isopods, bugs and the like in it. They did not go into the dry mulch or deeper layers of soil. In the tubs that dad kept, he only used top soil and compost from the compost heap. Both colonies of worms died when ants were introduced. Academia does not always know best…

Beautiful spiders as always. I wouldn't question for using that low but longer enclosure at all. For a terrestrial spider, this makes perfect sense. First day back at school in person today, thank god, online school is torture. Literally. It`s very interesting to me how different the males are than the females, very interesting indeed. God tier narration as well as usual Dave! I apologise about last week`s comment, i got a wee bit carried away XD.
