@CryonicCrusader2 жыл бұрын
Dirtiest? Hard to say with all the head shots - it's close between Torres on Hossa and Cooke on Savard. In terms of ones you should include in part 2: Trevor Gillies's head shot and punches on Eric Tangradi, Trevor Gillies' jumping Cal Clutterbuck, Gary Suter's cross check to the face of Paul Kariya (I remember that in Nagano, he got booed every time he touched the puck for that because the Japanese fans wanted to see Paul Kariya play), Ulf Samuelsson's knee on Cam Neely, Brad Marchand low-bridging Sami Salo, Vaclav Varada's boarding of Krys Kolanos, Todd Bertuzzi on Steve Moore... those are all the ones I can think of right now. Well, and umpteen more knee-on-knee hits by Marchment and Cooke.

to be fair, that's not why his numbers went down so much, as the leagues scoring was an all time high in 93 and it went down every year after that, the 98-04 seasons had the lowest scoring ever. Guys with UNDER 80 POINTS were top 10 in 2004. Thats why guys like Sundin Iginla Alfredsson and Datsyuk don't have more career points, and especially Jagr. Jagr had 3 seasons in the KHL after the rangers, plus the 04 05 season, you take those into account and the era he played in? His adjusted points compared to say, Gretzky's prime era, would be likely about 2500 career points. Far from Wayne but, much more than everyone else.

Thank you for putting this together! I think it clearly shows you have three types of players: 1. Players who make bad choices, or just make an unfortunate hit at an inopportune time. 2. Decent players who make repeated bad choices, like Marchand, Tom Wilson & Kadri, but all of these guys have showed that a player can mature and start making better decisions. I especially despise Wilson for some of his worst hits, but in discussions, I have always said he does not need to play like that, he really has talent, and he showed some of that in the Caps recent playoff run. I suppose you could say the same for Marchand and Kadri as far as talent. 3. Predatory hitters: Scott Stevens, Matt Cooke, Ty Domi, Claude Lemeiux, Brian? Marchment, and I am sure I missed and forgot some. I honestly do not care that the NHL had no rules to specifically protect players; Scott Stevens and Matt Cooke clearly displayed serial predatory behavior, and seemingly enjoyed injuring opponents. Full disclosure: I am a Bruins fan, and I do like Marchand; however, I never liked when Brad made stupid choices, especially when it could/did injure someone. Those are just dumb, selfish actions that almost always hurt one's own team.

@@erikl827 yes hockey is the best sport!! Unfortunately though if you played as a kid you would deal with MANY dirty players. That's how i broke my collar bone when i was 15, the hit was so late that the ref didn't even see (puck was down in other teams end and i was still in my own defensive zone, i had passed the puck up ice). Incidents/injuries like this made local leagues here in Canada raise the age for hitting. Because of stupid people. Some young teens just play to hit, instead of playing good hockey and taking opportunities when they come, and knowing when to back off. It really always comes down to the player though in my opinion, raising the age made no difference. In fact i think it might have made it worse since teenagers were mad they had to wait longer to hit, and then they would hit even more dirty. But yea hockey is awesome and i still played after the break but i absolutely cannot stand dirty players! No player making an NHL salary should ever make dirty hits like the ones in this video, they should be banned and have their contracts terminated

My one question about all these dirty hits is this...I only played the Sunday night pick up games after coaching my sons youth games. That being said, how can you actually defend your teammate when they leveled such a sicking hit as shown in these videos. I'm all for a nice body check here and there but if I had a teammate like a COOKE I'd be jumping the pile to pound on him also!
@johnathankorkie49842 жыл бұрын

You know that's a good question but honestly I think it all comes down to obligation. It's like this for any sport really not just hockey. I've seen it in football, Baseball, and Basketball as well. Whenever a player delivers a dirty hit I'm pretty sure the reason the teammates defend them is because they feel obligated to since their on the same team.

I took it into the offensive zone, and dumped it in. A second later, the kid came up behind me and slammed his shoulder into the side of my head. I received a minor concussion from my own teammate. It wasn’t the only time either. I would be waiting for my turn in a drill, and he would skate up to me and slam me into the boards. Anyone old enough to remember when Gary Suter took Paul Kariya out with a vicious cross check. Kariya couldn't play for Canada at the Olympics because of the injury. (The Olympics where in Japan that year...1998. Kariya is of Japanese decent) I remember when it happened like it was yesterday, and it still bothers me today. Kariya one of the greatest of all time.

I watched it live. It was vicious. I'm a Blackhawks fan, but Suter lost any respect I had for him after that.

In this video Kariya got caught admiring his pass.

Suter also hit Gretzky from behind in 91, basically forcing him to have back issues for the rest of his career. Dirty player.

4:56 I actually got hit similar to that. Instead, I was trying to get the puck out of the zone. I tried speeding around the defender, which I did. Then he boarded me right into the boards, face first, then stomach, then feet. I rested myself for 2 weeks before playing sports again.

I know it was a dirty hit but nothing makes me smile more then when he gets nailed by Keith in this vid. That guy deserves every bad thing that happens to him plus more...
@Sincopare2 жыл бұрын
I wonder if Keith would admit he meant to do it for all the other players who Cooke maimed.

During a tournament in high school I was skating up the boards breaking out and the big guy on the other team was lining me up for a hit. I passed the puck and went to step around him, but he (purposefully) stuck out is leg and took out my knee. My knee hyper-extended, I partially tore a ligament and cracked my tibia at the joint. He was suspended for the rest of the season. I hate dirty plays and unnecessary injuries. ... That being said in also a Bruins fan. Two things can be true at once.

Raffi Torres: King Of The Cheap Shots. I watched that hit on Hossa live and I knew from the point of impact, Torres had a 1st class ticket on the suspension train.
