Jets have a lot of depth compared to last year, with the additions of Namestikov, Villardi, Iaffalo, and Kupari, acquired from the LA Kings trade. Be interesting to see how they do this year. Hard to tell with this team, but the talent is there to finish at least 2nd in the Central Division. We'll see how they do next game, against a tough Carolina team. At times this team like like worldbeaters, then they go into a slump. I'd like to see some consistency.

They are now level on points with the team that had the worst start in NHL history, and are lucky in the fact they've 2 games in hand. But that doesn't change the fact that at the moment, the team and the organization is dead in the water.

Chances are Chicago might never be able to keep him if he wants out. And fair to say, even at 18 years old, he can only put up with so much crap before that becomes a possibility. because right now, even he isn't able to stem the flow.

Is it just me or does the Blackhawk goalie lets in goals shot from out far ?..?.? I note that he defends well close in…I am slowly becoming a hockey fan and would appreciate someone shedding light on this 😊

Tbh this game the goaltending looked decent. The first goal for the Jets, Vilardi has the puck along the boards and Soderblom (the Blackhawks goalie) is positioned fairly well to cut off the angle for a shot, but then Vilardi makes a pass towards the center of the ice and Schiefele shoots it far-side before Soderblom has a chance to reposition. I'll also note that the shot came from right around level with the faceoff circles, which seems to be about the perfect balance (for the shooter) of having somewhere to shoot, and not allowing the goalie time to react. A good goalie will stop most normal shots from there, but even a fairly small amount of lateral puck movement before the shot significantly increases the difficulty of a save. The second goal Soderblom got beat cleanly, but it was from right around that same faceoff circle area, which as already stated, is a fairly dangerous shooting area. You like to get a save on that shot, but a goalie who lets in one or two of those shots in a game isn't doing too badly. The third goal was deflected, and making a save on a deflected shot mostly comes down to luck. Pro goalies will be able to get a decent guess where the puck is going before a shot even leaves the stick based on a bunch of subtle things about how a player shoots, but when a shot gets deflected that trajectory changes without warning, and generally by the time the goalie is able to identify the new trajectory the puck is already past them.

Competitive teams have a good defence. I don’t know who thinks that Jones and Murphy are quality defencemen. It is interesting how unimportant defence seems to be until it matters. The forwards get all the attention and the big bucks but defence wins Stanley cups. Go back and consider the defence the Hawks had during their cup victories. Bedard will have to score four goals a game for this team to be competitive!!
