It's been fun, but they still need more. Another strong RHD, and a center if they want to stack the first line. More importantly though they still need to focus more. They can't have 2nd periods like that. It was terrible. This game should have been locked down after the 3-0 lead. They still lack the discipline and killer instinct the 11 team had.

Most years, I'd have flipped out as a Canucks fan when the score got to 3-3 and 4-4. Blueger's and Aman's lines were the difference tonight for the Canucks. Energy, speed and tenacity. Garland and Hoglander were beasts. And despite 4 goals against them, Demko made the stops when he had to. Demko and DeSmith each give the Canuck's a chance to win every night. What a transformation this team has gone through! Everyone is pulling on the same rope. 💪

Demko unfazed by the screen and deflection; Hoglander channeling his inner Daniel Sedin; Garland wielding his stick like a sword. Fantastic display of how the team game works in a system designed around, well, winning. As a Canucks fan from a far away time, this team is a wonderful evolution. They aren't the least bit intimidated or awed by the opponent, they just gather their tools and go to work. Good game, boys. Nice work, Coach.

Demko didn't bring his A game until the last 5 to 10 minutes in the third. Third and fourth lines played well. I am not even sure why people called the Suter-Kuzmenko-Mikheyev line the second line. It is increasingly clear to me that Suter, while a capable player, is not the right center for the two Russians. (You can say the two wingers are not the right fit for Suter.) My guess is that Tocchet wants Suter and Mikheyev to cover Kuzemko's defensive shortcomings. Something is going to give. Once you get into the playoffs (and hopefully before that), that line got to get going.

scary.... I'm a Nucks fan first and always but the Oil are my close back up. How can one not love watching McDavid and #29? It will be scary for any team if the Oil get in. However, the Oilers are running hot and red-lining right now which makes them more prone injury or peaking too early.
@my3dviews
@my3dviews Жыл бұрын
@@nameless_no_name Well, they needed to get hot, just to get into a playoff position. I'm not sure that I agree that playing hard makes you more prone to injury. Sitting back may be worse. But, I doubt that they can keep going at this pace for the rest of the season. But they certainly got their confidence back, and I doubt they would lose it, even with a few bad games, if that happens.
@nameless_no_name
@nameless_no_name Жыл бұрын
@@my3dviews Certainly red-lining can be hazardous. Seasoned vets will say you cannot go 100% for the entire season ect. Ken Holland was known for resting Stevie Y and Lidstrom giving days off in March when they locked their post season position. A good example is Markstrom. If he plays 60 games, he is one of the best goalies in the world. If you over play him, he breaks down. We got Zadorov to assist with D relief so Hughes and Hronick could ultimately reduce their minutes. Redlining can physically and emotionally wear a guy out and grind him down and make him prone to injury
@my3dviews
@my3dviews Жыл бұрын
@@nameless_no_name I could see the Oilers resting some of their top guys if they have secured a playoff position, but it is too early to do that. What I like about the Oilers lately, is that it is more of a full team effort, rather than the two obvious players getting all (or almost all) of the goals. Hyman especially is playing the best hockey of his career lately.
@nameless_no_name
@nameless_no_name Жыл бұрын
@@my3dviews I would like to see if Kane will be more of a factor. The biggest concern we see is Skinner. For peripheral Oil fans, the weak link is potentially Skinner. I think there will need to be an insurance policy attained in a trade. Some say he is over-achieving.

This was a weird one. Leafs woke up a little too late, not until the 2nd period. Leafs have a lot of great tricks up their sleeve and absolutely hammered Demko with shots - huge credit to him for only allowing 4 goals. Canucks offense was modest compared to the Leafs, but way more on-target.
