They needed a rebuild 2-3 seasons ago - trade out the veterans while they still have value. You know how many assets a Canadian team would have given-up for Sid? Doubling down on veterans worked in 1994 and it MIGHT have worked back in 2004, but doing so NOW? The Pens are in for at least a decade of pain.

There is no reason to keep Sullivan. He isn’t going to stay for a whole rebuild so it’s better to see if a new coach could spark the team a little. Otherwise, we can do a firesale at the deadline. But sticking with this clown show makes no sense. Sullivan wants to run a speed-based system with the oldest team in the league, is stubborn in his ways, and has been terrible for the development of young and new players to the team. Why does every free agent get worse when they sign with us? The answer is Sullivan and his terrible system.

The problem is that Sullivan signed a 3 year extension that doesn't even kick in until next season, I believe. Not every ownership group likes the idea of paying a coach millions of dollars for multiple years to sit at home.

I'm not sure the Penguins have a "system". Experienced players know where they should be on the ice in relation to the puck and the circumstances and they understand why they should be there. Some might call that "chemistry". But a coach doesn't have to wait years for that to develop. It is obvious to me that many teams in the league teach this to their younger players, who then become interchangeable parts to any line the team wishes to put on the ice. And, they don't "ad=lib" their power plays so much as execute designed screens and timing plays so as to get high percentage shots from the slot or weak side.

@Mythandor exactly so many Pens fans are just dramatic. Like it's a part of sports being good for so long and eventually having to rebuild. Alot of them hopped on anyways around 09 or 16-17 because i know they weren't all fans back when Fleury got drafted in 03-04. That's a team that was terrible because of all the minor league players playing lol

Kristan Jarry was bit Rusty. Hope he finds his form. Otherwise he is heavily overpayed player. Joel Blomqvist was sent to AHL. He played much better than Jarry today. Many matches, not just one.

No. He’s not the problem nice try. It’s the AHL bums they keep callin up and using like “puljujujujujuvari”. Drew O’Connor too. They won’t go get anybody. Beauvillier is the only real pick up they made and he was just an above average role player in Chicago, which the state of that team as well should show you how “good” he is if that was his role on a team like that. Sid can only do so much with nothing at all around him. And he ain’t goin nowhere, he’s retiring a Pen. He’s 37 in year 20.

The Pens need good younger players to do the heavy lifting for them and they have none of those players around. Next year the core will be 38-39 years old and things will only get worse from there.
