People who didn't grow up watching Crosby will never be able to appreciate just how dominant he was. While he certainly had his fantastic 1v1, 1v2, 1v4 etc highlights coming off the rush, he wasn't pretty and consistent like McDavid is now. Crosby was dominant in the corners and down low, plays that you'll rarely be able to find on highlight reels. It's a highly underappreciated area of the ice. And Crosby was better than anyone. There's a reason why he is often referred to as a "Superstar Grinder". During his prime, Crosby was nearly impossible to knock off the puck down low. It was something special to watch.

Our game ended with about 5 mins left in this Gold Medal game. We get off the ice, the squad is all chillen, taking our time in the locker room, thinking we're about to lose to Canada. Then our coach comes back in to tell us Parise tied it up & it's bout to go to OT. We hurry it up, then head to the lobby just in time for puck drop. It's packed to the brim with people watching. Seeing Sid the Kid score that game winner was gut-wrenching. What a moment. 😔. Congrats to all the Canadians 🙏.

Amazing breakdown as always. That clip gives me chills. BTW, really like your editing style of talking about the play, then clip in fullness as it was originally.

I pat myself on the back when I remember telling my father-in-law and wife when O.T started, matter-of-factly, "Crosby is going to score in OT". It wasn't even a question in my mind. Some guys just have it in them to rise to the occasion when it matters and they are always the safe picks. Whether quietly or with swagger it doesn't matter, you just know they are going to get it done.

Yeah one time the Vikings shanked like a 35 yard field goal to lose and I remember watching it standing up and a good five seconds before the snap I said out loud "he's going to shank it" and then HE DID

I remember watching this as a kid with my family and going absolutely bonkers at this goal. The tension throughout OT was palpable and we all wanted the boys to bring the gold so bad

I was 14 when this happened! I'm so happy I got to witness such a Canadian historical time. Especially since I'm also from Nova Scotia!

Such a vivid memory for me, I was 11 years old when I watched this game with my 18 year old brother at the time and his girlfriend. My brother said to me before overtime, "If Canada wins, we're going to get ice cream." We went nuts when Crosby scored and went immediately to McDonalds for ice cream. I guess two miracles happened that night, this goal and the ice cream machine was working.

Sid was so good so young so fast, younger & faster than anyone in NHL history not named Gretzky. And he got there with unprecedented hype, expectation and pressure in which he not only met but surpassed.

As a Sabres and Ryan Miller fan, I was conflicted about whether or not I wanted to watch this video. I was at the Winter Classic when Crosby beat Ryan to win it. When he did it again for gold, it was another gut punch. Thanks for letting me relive both moments.

Literally as an American I'll always love our neighbors..still best friends with a Canadian I served with on deployment...but we both agree that Team USA was special...and that gold medal game was an absolutely beautiful showcase of competitiveness

You should do a long video on the 72 summit series. Full breakdown. People need to know.

You should do a video on the 1987 Canada Cup final. Probably some of the greatest hockey ever played. A lot of younger fans don't know about that tournament, the level of play for 80's hockey was insane, looked much closer to the modern games in terms of skill and pace than most people would expect.

I remember being down at Granville when this game was going. I came home when it was around a minute left on the clock in the 3rd. Zach's goals was sickening, ngl. But that goal by Sid, that's a core memory for 10 year old me.

This Olympics also had another historic gold medal game in women’s hockey, which Canada won as well. 2010 was a great time to be a Canadian hockey fan.

I've seen several championships in my life living in Toronto during the 90s. But I was too young to go downtown when the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series in 1992 and 1993, and I would only hear of older people tell of the epic party downtown when Joe Carter walked it off for the Championship. I also missed the 2002 party because I was watching at home. Sure my family was home, but no one watched hockey, let alone sports except for me. So I made it a point to go to Yonge-Dundas Square to watch at least the third period. I started the game at home, got on the streetcar and listened to the game on radio, and was on time to watch the third in downtown Toronto. When Zach Parise scored, you could hear a pin drop. When OT started, everyone was reacting to everything. As Bob Cole would have said, "Everything is happening". When Crosby scored it was so loud in Toronto the sound echoed for quite a distance. Chants of "Sid The Kid" "We Got Gold!" "CAN-A-DA!" and the random singings of "O Canada" broke out. I left the party early to go to Church, and as expected it was sparsely attended since most of the congregation went partying. After church I went back to Yonge-Dundas, and it was just jam packed. Random hugs, people high fiving, some climbed on top of light posts, street signs. The party went on for a full 12 hours. Fun times in Toronto.

You can add even more pressure onto this game considering the World Junior Hockey Championships, less than 2 months before, ended in a very similar way -- US vs Canada for the Gold Medal in Overtime. In that game, the US won 6-5 on a similar shot headed towards the short side of Canada's Martin Jones. Although that play was off a rush, the parallels were pretty cool to see, only going the other way this time around. 2010 was a wild year for Hockey. Not only did these two amazing moments happen, but the Chicago Blackhawks would end the, at the time, longest cup drought in NHL history that year against the 7th seeded Philadelphia Flyers. They defeated the upstart 8th seeded Montreal Canadiens, a team that eliminated the Cup defending Pittsburgh Penguins the previous round, and the 1st seeded Washington Capitals in the first round after coming back from 3-1 down in the series, an NHL first for an 8th seed. Capping that off, Marian Hossa of the Blackhawks reached and finally won his first Stanley Cup after playing in the past 3 finals on the Penguins in 08, who would lose to the Detroit Red Wings, then losing again as a Red Wing against Sid the Kid and the Penguins in 09. It was a very good year for Hockey.

holy shit man.. watching back all these angles, its insane how close that play is multiple times.. First sid with the poke to iggy which is like .2 seconds from being blocked. then as he is covered by a man and falling down, iggy barely threads the needle past a recovering Rafalski's stick, only to pass it kind of behind sid.. but not only does sid recover the puck, he then goes on to beat miller (and a still valiantly trying Rafalski) in close at an awkward angle.. what an amazing play, topped off of course by the legendary call of sir Chris Cuthbert
