Forget what people are saying about San Jose Sharks being the worst team of the season so far. To me, that dishonorary title goes to the overhyped Edmonton Oilers because they are way, way, way below the expectations and the predictions. They came in as one of the heavy Cup favourites, and came in as Canada's flagship team, and after 1/8 of the season, they're 3rd from bottom in both the Pacific and the League standings. All the expectations that came after their runs the last 2 seasons justified their status, but boy, have they fallen flat on their faces. Even McDavid is badly misfiring, and their goalie woes deepen even further.

This isn't hindsight talking (no, I didn't expect this poor of a start by Edmonton), but why did so many fans and "experts" pick the Oilers to represent the West in the SCF? Why was Vegas dismissed as not being a repeat contender? VGK, DAL, and COL all seemed better on paper (and by the eye test) going into the season. It feels like fans just want to will the Oilers to be a contender because they want to see McDavid in a Final. The Oil have never felt like a complete team since McDavid arrived and I think expectations were way too high this offseason and fans are getting let down.

Kostin was that big guy we finally needed, aaaand they let him walk in favour of McLeod, Ryan and Brown who have amounted to nothing thus far. Bouchard is a PP unit only type of guy, definitely should've been made to walk - anyone can launch a one timer from his spot and probably do a better job at D.

Ken Holland is a terrible gm. He should be fired. But it’s not his fault as he has a terrible coach in Woodcroft. Woodcroft should be fired. But it’s not his fault when they have the worst goaltending in the league. They need a new goalie. But a star goalie won’t do anything as they have 5 pylons playing defense. They need defencemen. That won’t do anything either because when McDraisaitl is neutralized, they can’t score. They need forwards. That won’t do anything either because when they don’t get spoonfed powerplays, they can’t score 5 on 5. They need 5 on 5 offence. When they have all of that they still won’t be successful because they don’t have the toughness to overcome adversity. They need to be mentally tougher. And none of this will happen with Ken Holland as GM.
