Where the Hell is Newsy Lalonde? 99 NHL games and 124 goals gives a ratio of 1,25! And if you claim that was too long ago (1917-1927) fair enough, but how can you then include Howie Morenz (1923-1937)? Even comparing Mike Bossy to Leon Draisaitl is unfair, different era, different game.

Maybe 100 game minimum? Like in baseball, can't win a battling title with only 20 at bats in a season, go 9 for 20 (.450 average) and claim to be a good hitter. There has to be a minimum sample size requirement.

Bossy was a sniper and a great person. 2 grands Québécois Lemieux et Bossy.

That's why I think Mario Lemieux was the GOAT. If it wasn't from his back injuries and cancer, he would beat Wayne Gretzky's records.
@alf14592 күн бұрын
This is not necessarily true. Gretzky was in fact the first to get to every milestone in terms of goals per game. If he had stopped playing when he reached Bossy’s total goals, he would have had a better goals per game ratio. Same thing with Mario’s total (although it would have been very close). Gretz suffered a serious back injury when he was cross-checked by Gary Suter in the 1991 Canada Cup. Up until that time, he had never scored fewer than 40 goals in a season, but he never reached 40 goals again in his final eight seasons as his goals per game dropped dramatically. As far as points per game go, Mario never could have gotten close to Wayne’s totals even if he never missed a game with illness or injury.

This is a little misleading… the top 6 had shortened careers, where near the end of full careers your gpg will drop off significantly.
@enzopalumbo21643 күн бұрын
You are comparing players goals per game over an entire career while Auston Mathews is over his first 7 or 8 years of his career. Mike Bossy's was 0.76 over his entire career. Only in his final year where he had to cut short due to injuries that he didn't score 50 goals.
@GreekboyyD3 күн бұрын
Bossy only played 10 seasons. Gretzky had a better goals per game pace than him after 10 seasons. Had Bossy played 20 seasons like Gretzky, he’d have a much worse goals per game pace.
@waynethera27123 күн бұрын
Bossy also played in the easiest goal scoring era. All those early years of feasting on the Capitals, Kansas City Scouts, Cleveland Barons, Oakland Seals, Colorrado Rockies and the early WHA entry years. No wonder everyone scored 35-50 goals. The expansion rules were pretty awful those years.

@waynethera2712 1980s was a joke. Cardboard cutouts masquerading as goalies with the highest goals per game and the worst goalie save percentages that the NHL ever saw.

The boss had 37 goals with 28 games remaining when his season ended
@GreekboyyD2 күн бұрын
@patbrennan6572 The end of his career. He only ever played through his prime and never played 20 seasons like Gretzky did. This allowed his goals per game to never face a decline.
