Crosby has 502 goals, 873 assists for 1375 points in 1082 games. Ovechkin has 762 goals, 621 assists for 1383 points in 1249 games. As of today, Sid is only 8 points behind Ovi with 167 fewer games played. People tend to forget somehow that Sid missed the equivalent of like 2 NHL seasons with injuries. Ovi might be the better goal scorer, but Sid is the better overall player.

As a Canes fan; That Carlsen save was equally frustrating as it was really impressive. Hats off to him, he made an amazing play and honestly I think his stick had more to do with the second attempt being unsuccessful than the crossbar did. I hate losing goals but that was so fun to watch.

I can imagine Torts's commentary on the Barkov goal: I think it's bad for the fundamentals of the game, players playing with the puck behind their backs, having fun, anything can happen while the puck is back there, Barkov will probably be the first to tell you he doesn't have eyes back there and could just as easily turn it over, I worry what's next for the game, maybe players hot dogging the puck up the ice on the blade of their stick lacrosse style 😂
@GoodMenstruationAttitude2 жыл бұрын
Torts is still half-right though. The rulebook is going to need to be rewritten when people can lacrosse it all the way down the ice. I'm okay with that, should be an interesting game, even the NHL can totally get it done, but there *are* major hurdles to clear.

Couple things: First, with the Toffoli goal, I can't believe that Steve didn't mention how he was only using one skate during that mini-breakaway. I know the announcers said it, but Steve not pointing it out as well is surprising. That should be a dang-it. Second: allow me to start by saying that I don't really like Crosby. I'm a Devil's fan (save your hate and/or pity), so Crosby and the Penguins have always given us fits. Along with that, I've always found Crosby to be too much of a whiner and a sneaky dirty player at times. Having said all that, and knowing how much I dislike him, I have a lot of respect for him as a player. The guy has some slick moves, great playmaking ability, and a sniper's shot. Getting to 500 goals is a huge milestone for any player. Less than 50 players in NHL history have scored 500 goals in their career. Like him or not, 500 goals is an impressive feat. Trying to demean that because someone else scored 500 goals quicker than him? Like, what? That's ridiculous. Why should it matter how much longer it took him. 500 is 500, and should be applauded.
@ankeriaskaarme80852 жыл бұрын
Let me start off by saying, I hate and pity the Devils. But then again, I'm a Red Wings so ditto for me. Ditto, also for the evaluation on Crosby - I always found him a sneaky little whiny bastard too. But what can I say? The Kid's slowly grown on me. I don't think he's "that kid" anymore, or at least not half as bad. The talent's always been there of course, but right now I'm thinking... Selke? Anyways, kudos for #87 & Goal #500!
@Kotten842 жыл бұрын
I remember Crosby getting drafted by the Pens and him making his debut. I remember Sid playing with Lemieux. I remember him immediately being the star that would make the Pens shine again. I remember his problems with injuries and the worries that maybe this will be a generational talent that has his career ruined by them. I remember him becoming the captain that has lead Pittsburgh to greatness, winning the Stanley Cup once, twice, three times...so far. I also feel that I take him for granted because he's been here for so long and I sort of can't imagine a time without him at the Penguins. I do know that I will be here one day when Sid has retired and think "Man, what an amazing playing that Sid the Kid was and I miss seeing him play for the Pittsburgh Penguins".

Without Sidney Crosby, there is no McDavid, Zegras, Hughes, Matthews, or whoever else you want to mention who will define the game for the next generation. If you ask any of them who their favorite players to watch were growing up they all say Sidney Crosby and Patrick Kane. Imagine coming into the league as one of the best, and never being content with it. He kept getting better. Even today most NHL players say he is still the hardest to defend and the best in the game. He defined what hockey is today, like Gretzky before him.
@gerble362 жыл бұрын
I'm not going to argue with the point you are trying to make. But if there was no Crosby... those players would have just loved a different player and still be awesome hockey players today. You are being a bit over dramatic :/.
@sadface66352 жыл бұрын
@@gerble36 It’s Crosby’s playstyle that they liked. You can’t get better at the game if you don’t watch and learn from better players than you. Of course there are other players to watch, just like there were other players to watch when Gretzky was around. But the way Gretzky played was unique and inspired an entire generation to adopt that playstyle. Crosby did the same for kids all over, and Kane did that for kids in the U.S. . I wanted to play like them. My brother who plays for the university of Wisconsin wanted to play like them (and he’s a defenseman). It shows their impact even on other positions and on all the players in the sport. I don’t think that’s a stretch or over dramatic.

I think the Canes scoring a goal to start consecutive periods (2nd and 3rd) against Pittsburgh in less than 10 seconds (9 seconds each) should have made the cut considering it was the first time any team in NHL history had done that. Rod Brind'Amour post game on is also a bit of a laugh: When asked if there was anything he spotted that Pittsburgh was doing on opening faceoffs that led to the quick scores: "I can’t be telling you what was going there, but every team has stuff they do off the faceoff."
@mrutherford11062 жыл бұрын
The Hurricanes became the first NHL team to score a goal in the first ten seconds of two consecutive periods (9 seconds into the second and third period on the 20th against Pittsburgh) They also scored 24 seconds into the second period the next day against Philadelphia (although the Flyers scored 35 seconds later) And the overtime winner in that game against the Flyers was Brett Pesce knocking the puck out of mid-air before scoring with 8 seconds left in overtime

In the Lucas Carlsson play, the second shot from Lorentz doesn't hit the crossbar, Carlsson stops it with his stick AGAIN and Lorentz ends up pulling it back with his stick as he's trying to reset for another swing. He stopped TWO shots with the shaft of his stick, the second WITH ONE HAND WHILE FALLING DOWN. Look at the slow-mo from above, you'll see it never touches the crossbar. This is the save of the decade.
