@@SmurfRockRune YES. The spirit of the rule is to avoid players hanging deep in the offensive zone and await a very long pass. The goal wasn't scored thanks to being offside here. If the linesman didn't blow the whistle, then the play is good. We'll have one majorly blown call every season and, well, tough luck, getting that blown call right isn't worth all those video reviews.
@HDreamer

@@SmurfRockRune 100% this, taking out a measuring stick to see if someone was 1mm offsides has nothing to do with the spirit of the rule anymore. Drives me insane. Same issue in soccer actually, they started calling goals back because the heel of an attacker that had his back turned to the goal was offsides. Ridiculous.

I love Dang It days. The Habs goal was amazing. Crosby has basically done everything at this point of his career so add the game misconduct to the list. What hasn't he accomplished? It always astounds me how long it takes officials to realize and FINALLY stop play when a player is hurt, even though they’re supposed to be paying attention. That went on way too long when Samberg was hit. Should’ve taken 3 seconds at most to pull that whistle up and stop play, but they wait until he has multiple skates and sticks get too close to his head.
@reaganharder1480

The rule is that unless the ref deems it urgent the play goes on until the team of the player who is injured gets possession. I'm not sure I like the rule as it is, because it does feel kinda wrong to have play going on so long while a guy is writhing on the ice, but if play stops as soon as a player appears injured, you know someone is going to fake injury when they're hemmed in to get a faceoff and fresh players, so there needs to be some way to prevent faking injury for strategic purposes.

Offside reviews, no time limit but the linesman has to watch the replay in real time. None of this zoom and enhance to the closest pixel until you can or cannot see white. Real time review. If it isn't obviously conclusive, then it isn't offside. My hot take is that linesmen also don't call offside as often as they should because video review will have their back if they're wrong and it doesn't disrupt the flow of the game as often.

That one gave me flashbacks. A goalie I used to play with would pull crap like this all the time. All of the defensemen had their hearts in their throats anytime he went to play the puck because he was just as likely to pass it to the other team as he was to you. Dude was a wall, but you just had no idea what he was going to do with the puck, I don't think he even knew what he was going to do with the puck. I think a good compromise for review is that aside from a game-winning goal in sudden death or any on ice call in the playoffs, they are limited to a maximum of 2 minutes to determine if there is enough evidence to overturn the ruling. If nothing can be concluded by the end of that time, the call will stand. That's how long TV timeouts last anyways.

my suggestion for this offsides challenge is we just remove the cameras from the ice level on the blue line. no more! that view doesn't exist anymore. You've got 2 minutes from holding the ipad on to use all the other cameras to determine, and if you can't. it's not offsides. goal counts.
@myerscarmy
@myerscarmy Жыл бұрын
I've said for a while that if you can't tell if the play was offsides at 3/4 speed and after just a few replays, then you can't call the goal back. Even in Playoff games. That would keep the spirt of the rule alive while not ruining games with 5-10 minute reviews. I bet even the players and coaches would agree with that change to the rule.

He could not have been offside, because by the time he crossed the blue line, he was in possession AND control (for rules sticklers) of the puck. And anyone trying to say otherwise (like that he has the puck in his legs or whatever) doesn't watch enough NHL to truly appreciate the skill those players have. I've said it before in these comments and I'll say it again: if it's close enough that you can't conclusively determine whether a goal was offside or note within, say, 3 minutes - certainly not 5, _the length of overtime itself,_ for crying out loud - of a review starting, and the offending player made a good faith effort to stay onside anyways, just count the goal and we can move on. Utterly ridiculous that it has to take so long to look for such a miniscule, arguably-negligible "offence".

Was Hart's momentum already taking him out of the play? Yes. Did Foegele's contact make much of a difference? Shouldn't have if he was also trying to avoid hitting Hart. How long did that review for goalie interference take? Over five minutes. It's like they're looking for an excuse to overturn the play.

I do love that all of the Blackhawks dang-its this week were by former Red Wings. We're slowly getting our revenge...

Guys please include in hat picks next week Kappo Kahkonen's triple desperation save in the 50th minute of the game tonight against Vegas, or his insane kick save a few minutes after that. Please

I couldn't care less if a goal is offside by that little in overtime of a game 7 of the finals. How much of an advantage does a player really have by being offside by less than an inch?

Honestly, I don't see the "distinct kicking motion" on Athanasiou I've seen goals that where allowed where more kicking happened

Sid nailed it! The officials are a mess and need to be held accountable, especially in front of the media after every game!

TLDR: The standard has always been "conclusive evidence". You can't tell me a decision is conclusive, if it takes 5 mins to make. Been saying this about offside reviews since they implemented it. The whole idea of reviews has always been "conclusive evidence" that the call on the ice was wrong. You cannot tell me that someone can look at the same play 10 times without knowing what the answer is, and then suddenly on the 11th time they look at it, they're conclusive. People are really good at talking themselves into things, but that shouldn't meet the criteria of "conclusive evidence". Conclusive means you look at it and you know what the call is. Anything you're unsure about or that isn't obvious, is not conclusive imo. The only exception should be if they're clarifying a rule, like with the Makar call in the playoffs last year. And I don't get why anyone would have a problem with this. The rule was put in there to get rid of the Duchene-type plays. Video has limits on resolution, so there is always going to be built-in error. The refs do a great job in general. If they're getting most calls correct, where there's a cm of difference, just let it be. Follow the same logic you've applied to all the other types of calls and require "conclusive evidence". Simple. Ok I'm done my rant.

Was Montreal on the Power play in 3 v 3 OT? There was 4 of them on the ice for that last score? What I'm I missing?

The other team had a power play, and in OT when you get a pp it goes to 4 on 3 (as they don't want less than 3 skaters on the ice per team.) When the penalized player comes out of the box, they play 4 on 4 until the next stoppage. That is what happened. Montreal killed a penalty and passed to the player coming out of the box.

@@johncox7169 Got it. The reason I was wondering is because where they cut to in the video never showed the PP countdown clock. So it appeared in the video that it was randomly 4 v 4😅

I didn't even know there was a goal review for the OT goal from Montreal. When I heard the announcer say "the league confirmed it", I turned off the TV
