Undoubtedly the best video I’ve ever seen on bearings. Best in that the information was presented thoroughly, and I feel like I learned a lot of things that I haven’t seen explained elsewhere. I did buy some Bronson Ceramics and they weren’t for me. They seemed to slow down pretty quick. It’s possible that they are more for people who skate in the park or skate fast bc I don’t do either of those things. I mostly skate flat ground street spots and I do a lot of cruising. Either way thanks for the video…saved and liked.

I have a set of ceramic bearings that are about 15 years old. And there a cheaper Chinese no name. Then I have zealous built in ceramics and bones race reds (steel) with built ins for the same price. And the zealous ceramic is well worth the moneys so that made me think if only the Bronsons ceramic was out when I was shopping for bearing last year. Ceramics are just better. No matter who makes them.

these look like a good deal. I always use my bearings for a couple years at the least, even if they get junked up. By the end of those years, that board is worse for wear, haha! at that point, I'm replacing damn near everything on the board. I'd like to get some components I don't have to replace every time I get a new setup. I've got some nice venture trucks I reuse often, but getting some bearings to keep around sounds like a great bonus. after that, it's just the deck, tape, and wheels. I suppose the bushings too.

Damn....this was the most awesomest video of all time, you should win SOTY for this. I'm definitely a bearing person. Recently my bearings were making a crackling noise, almost like the crown was grinding and it started to drive me crazy, I cleaned them twice, even made a bearing cleaner device and put speed cream in them but still no luck. They looked cool, the FKD Lightning Green ones, so I didn't want to give up. They still crackle unfortunately and will toss in the towel. I guess I'll grab some ceramics, mainly cuz I skate mostly parks and I love when my board feels like it slips from under me from being too fast. I'll grab some G3s as well cuz I usually ride mine raw. Thanks so much for the info. If anyone knows the reason behind the crackling noise please share, those green bearings are too cool to give up on, THANKS!!! :P

I just got my cleaning kit but thought the lid was a defective that it did not snap on all the way down. And I came across your clip and found out that it was normal being loose. Sir, would you be so kind and please tell us why the lid does not snap on if you know? Doesn't it make more sense if the lid'd seal the opening tight?
@NHSSkateDirect
@NHSSkateDirect 2 жыл бұрын
Great question. You really have to hold it tight when shaking. I think even if it snapped on it would still leak if you didn't hold it all the way down tight. It could have had a rubber sealed top but I think that would more expensive and eventually deteriorate and leak. For case use longevity and to keep the price as low as possible would be my answer.

@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 3 жыл бұрын
It's literally all marketing. Most of the stuff that is objectively better, just doesn't matter for skateboarding. And there are downsides to ceramic bearings too (for example, they can still break on impact). The whole denting steel balls vs smooth ceramic balls is also kind of questionable stuff. We're mostly talking theoretical performance gains here. Most steel ball bearings will have a good enough performance. (And let's be honest, who goes 60mph on a skateboard, out in the desert, jumping of 10 stair sets for months on end? Because that's really the type of scenario where it would 'matter'.) And sometimes being harder doesn't equate to being more durable at all, as energy impact and dispersion is dealt with in less fluid and forgiving ways. Think of bouncy rubber on shoes for impact protection, versus hard flip flops that hurt when jumping. Different for different purposes, but not superior. For bearings a lot of the durability is compromised by how dirty it gets, how rust plays a role and how that impacts the balls. I don't want to hate on this video, but for reasons of cost, value and durability alone there's a reason why people are satisfied with just the G3s or whatever the cheapest ones are.

Hi i has very positive experience with Si3N4 (black balls). Only hard luck 6 ceramic was slower VS other steel bearings as Bones swiss ,swiss 6, bronson g3. Other ceramic was on another level of speed acceleration and smoothness and way better VS Bones swiss ,swiss 6, bronson g3. 4 years on different Si3N4 bearings and no one bearing failed. Only changed 2 seals. Changing lube and cleaning them every usually its 5-6 months as sound became louder and more friction. Use all washers spacers as it should be. Grease was super thin lithium MoS2 water resistant cleaning with gasoline. All 4 sets of ceramic still alive and used in different set of wheels. Compared to brand new doesnt feel any speed lost and smoothness.

@@HECKAKYH-ADEKBATEH the steel degraded after around 2 years. I used Si3N4 balls and put them instead of steel balls in bones super reds, and bones swiss 7. @@acgwestsidesb6410 Interesting experiment, thanks for sharing! Yes, I think going from steel balls to ceramic balls makes sense if you can get them cheap and their diameter is matching, but the other way around can be problematic IMHO. This is my own purest theory, but ceramic balls are much harder, especially SiNitride, than any metal, but the races are always made from metal, so on every vertical force application (like jumping), depending on your weight and acceleration, ceramic balls are way more likely to make a dent in the metallic race, which they will then flatten but will get more play are, which will likely add more friction. Metal balls are as soft as the race, so they are likely to just compress/decompress instead of denting as they are closer to same hardness as the itself brace. To give an analogy, like a toast with tomato over it, versus a toast with a piece of metal over it. The tomato will take part of energy and then transfer some to the toast, so they might both deform, but spread it, the piece of flat metal in contrast will send all energy to the toast, pushing through it. For the same reason, used races after metal balls should be full of cracks (what actually blocks the metal balls), but more or less in acceptable overall shape when it comes to the form; where the race after ceramic balls will have lots of room to play, thus the metal balls in that race will have even more friction than the old ceramic balls. I have both types myself, bought a pack of black SiNis on 56mm 86a conicals when I started practicing in skatepark (because metals I had back then were garbage and did lots of drag), which I then later transfered into 70mm cruiser wheels and got a bunch of good regular metal bearings for the skatepark wheels as soon as I started practicing jumps and drops. TL;DR ceramics are excellent and economical for horizontal movement, but they degrade on jumps, metal are the other way around. Best

Give them a little time. Brand new bearings are loaded up with lubricant so they don't automatically spin forever by hand. Rolling under your feet they'll be super fast.
@johnviera3884
@johnviera3884 Жыл бұрын
Ceramic bearings friction on a metal surface will wear out faster vs steel on steel. Unless maintained and lubricated frequently they will wear quickly. This is why you don’t store ceramic knives next to steel knives. They will become dull and ruined. I bought ceramic Bones bearings once and they lasted 4 months

So wait, G3's are actually faster than RAWS? Why are they more money if the G3's are better? Also, I bought some cheaper ceramic bearings and are great, but never tried them on drops because I heard ceramics are actually weaker than steel bearings and so I never wanted to try ceramics on my street board because I was scared to explode the bearings like I have heard people doing before. I would definitely give these a shot if I was certain they were gonna be strong and not explode on a bad landing like I have heard ceramics are well known for. I have them specifically on my longboard because I didn't want to blow them up ollieing an 8 stair or something. Also, I really appreciate these videos, even after 13 years of skateboarding, thank you very much and keep up the great work!!
@NHSSkateDirect
@NHSSkateDirect 3 жыл бұрын
The Raws cost more because the races are coated with Tungsten - which helps dry lubricate them so everything can be exposed and stay fast. G3's don't need the Tungsten since everything is enclosed. The Bronson Ceramics use the Silicon Nitride balls and are very durable and we've had no issues with anyone breaking them. They'll definitely hold up to an 8 stair drop. Thank you! Skateboarding is the best! -Ron

what are these like compared to bones Swiss 6?

A very high end steel bearing. Bones has an excellent reputation for all their bearings. I ridden the OG Bones Swiss and those are great. Supposedly these should skate like those but since the balls are bigger less friction and even faster. However I've never skated them so I can't say how they feel.

I have multiple sets of both and I believe the Swiss 6 are faster out of the box. The Bronsons are super quiet but not quite as fast initially, though they seem to speed up with break-in and are much lighter.

This kills me to say this because I Love ❤️ G2’s and G3’the price point and quality is above bones. I’ve skate the Bronson ceramics for 1yr+ and they aren’t as good as the bones ones. The machining or steel didn’t hold up like the bones ones did I had bones for 4+ years before ones started to pop. At about a 1.5yr I started to pop the Bronsons. 😢

If NHS sees this and wants to stay competitive. I’ll leave an answer to my feedback. The part that failed was the cages. I noticed they started to get brittle and break. They degraded quicker than the competitors my guess is that after cleaning the bearing in alcohol over time the plastic cages crack.

I just purchased the Bones Swiss a day before watching this... Should I take them back and purchase these? Guessing I probable can't go wrong with either but the Bronson has a cleaning kit included. Just getting back into the sport after 35 years and so much has changed (for the better) so please be patient with me. Thanks.

No you will be very happy with your Bones Swiss (although I prefer the Bones Super Swiss 6) and the Bronson Ceramics won't be much, if any, faster, although they are noticeably lighter and perhaps the most quiet bearings I've ridden (although they do seem to get louder after break-in). As bearings go, Bones Swiss Ceramics are a cut above all others I've tried; if you have the money they are worth every penny and last a LONG time. They are FAST. After that I like the aforementioned Super Swiss 6, and the Bronson Ceramics. I have multiple sets of all 3 and you can't go wrong with any of them, but I would say the Bronsons are probably the quietest but slowest of the 3 out of the box, although they do seem to get faster with break-in. The Super Swiss 6 feel very fast and smooth right out of the box but are definitely heavier. The Swiss Ceramics are just amazing though.

@@jonathandantonio649 So it turns out that I had the Bones Swiss but they weren't ceramic. The white box fooled me. So I returned them and bought two boxes of the Bronson ceramics featured in this video. Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

The Bronson Ceramics tested faster than Swiss Ceramics on our lab machines. If you're interested in how those machines work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opO2nKKGbdKSoNU Under your feet is a bit harder to tell. Both are about as fast as you can get as far a skate bearing. I thought the Bronson felt a little faster and yes. $100 is quite a bit. Also, the bearing cleaning kit is a nice bonus.
