Subscribed! I've watched a fair few reviews for this game already, then came across this one which is easily the most informative. I had already pre-ordered the game, but it's reassuring to have seen such a great review. Many of the mainstream review sites (I'll mention no names) have barely skimmed over many details, and I'm drifting further from them now. Thanks for this, I'll be sure to check out your reviews first in future.

E1ite Yoshi I agree. I actually found the first Ni No Kuni really frustrating because of the amount of grinding that was needed..It got to the point where I spent ages leveling up by attacking Toko's (familiars that give you a tone of xp) and powered through the game on level eighty or something so I could just enjoy the story.

I want to build a kingdom where everyone can live happily ever after! I will unite all the kingdoms in peace! ...goes to annihilate everything in his path! Typical tyrant!
@id1043354096 жыл бұрын
hahaha, no it doesn't. Every type of regime ever had that mentality. It is the concept of uniting everyone under one rule. Every king or emperor on the planet had the same goal. To say that communism is the root of all evil is just brainwash propaganda. You picked that up at some point in your life. Many people have, after the fall of the communistic regime. It is the way of the winners to discredit the losers, by showing their worst sides and then add some crazy shit on top of that. You know - the winner gets to write the history. Capitalists are responsible for just as many atrocities as any other, we just don't talk about it. There is nothing wrong with communism, capitalism, fascism, tyranny or any regime. The problem is in the humans - give them power and they do unspeakable things. Like the do-good prince Evan here. I have been slicing and dicing all types of free roaming monsters in the name of Good. But I noticed right away that the Pirates on our side are all good guys, while the Bandits that we are killing are all bad guys... because they rob people.

if you start one, just know you may never get the chance to start the other. My first playthrough of P5 was 133 hours. To be fair though, because the world is properly connected I didn't use fast travel for most the game because I wanted to learn and master the games layout since it was the only thing I wish P4 did that was missing. So basically, if I wanted to go somewhere instead if the 10 seconds to choose and jump immediately, I leave home, run down the alley, go to the train station, jump on the train, go downtown, and yeahh lol.

You have no idea how much I don't need to buy this game yet but I'll buy it when it's like 30 dollars: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games I've started but need to continue AND want to continue/finish (out of pleasure or ocd) Persona 5 (beat Egypt palace boss) Gravity Rush 2 (beat the tutorial and I'm at the part where it opens up to a city) The Last of Us Remastered (I believe I left the one gay guy part just recently in the game) The Evil Within (I was around halfway done but re-bought on pc along with 2 so I'm at the level with the chainsaw man) Resident Evil Revelations 1 Reigns (no idea since the nature of the game) The Black Watchman (finished 6 levels or chapters or whatever) Doom (hell gate opened and I did the level where you have to keep going up for a shit ton of time) Bayonetta (around the point where you flashback and fight a boss fight) The Banner Saga 2 (barely started) DreadOut (barely past the pig) Diluvion (need to go back a ways so that I can build up to stronger ships and so forth so I can beat the final boss, iffy if I want to do this but ocd) Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide 1 (need to beat the boss) 80 Days (finish my first playthrough, either win or lose) Blue Estate (level after the first boss) Resi 6 (barely into it) LISA (pretty early into it and recruited a few people so far) Stardew Valley (I think I have to restart it) Oceanhorn (beat the first boss) Hatoful Boyfriend (Joe Biden, or Biden Joe, needs to date some pigeons and learn about the world) Costume Quest 2 (early in it) Chroma Squad (need to try another playthrough to try another branching path, ideally motorcycle one) DMC 4 (beat the first boss like 2 years ago and stopped) Serious Sam BFE (probably around halfway through) Valkyria Chronicles (did some grinding but I'm only a few levels in past the tutorial) Dishonored (stopped after sewer level pretty much) Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 (beat first boss) Dead Space (like a half hour in) Battleblock Theater (probably halfway through) Alien Isolation (not sure I ever have the alien attacking me actively yet) Darksiders 1 (was on first spider boss) Witcher 3 (did this twice since had on ps4 then gog pc but I pretty much finished bloody baron on both and a good amount of side quests and stuff) Dead in Bermuda (if it didn't save my progress I"m not bothering with it but I had fun with it and was decently in, though nowhere close to finishing) SteamWorld Dig (no idea but it's fun) I Expect You To Die (all vr games are psvr since that's what I have now. Anyway I beat 2 levels and I'm on sinking escape pod level and I'm trying to figure it out myself) Superhot VR (I think I'm decently into it, not sure) Mortal Blitz (beat firstish level, vr) Megaton Rainfall (a few levels in, in vr of course) Thumper (beat the first real boss, vr is super good in it) Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 1 Citizens of Earth (3rd of the way through maybe? Did a little more grinding than I probably should have though) God Eater: Ressurection (beat a few levels lol) Wolfenstein: The New Order (when you have to sneak into the place after family takes you there) Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (early on) Day of the Tentacle Remastered (fashion show stuff) Skulls of the Shogun (barely started) Stories: The Path of Destinies (fairly into it) Styx: Master of Shadows (a few levels in) Disgaea 5 (I did the story but want to do post game and rest of dlc since I have it all) Final Fantasy 15 (replay for all the new content) Lucius (going around at night) Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (in the space sections) Dementium II HD (I'm outside or something) Borderlands 2 (a few bosses in) Mytheon (beat Hephaestus I think) Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (beat first boss I think) Not a Hero (beat a few levels) Those are ps4 or pc, but as far as old games I need to go back to: Nier (ps3), Puppeteer (ps3), Folklore (ps3), and Yakuza 5 (ps3) I'll probably play yakuza 5 soon to prepare for yakuza 6, will have to restart since I lost the save that was decently into haruka's plot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Games I need to start that I own AND that I WANT to play: Dark Souls 3 (pc) Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (pc) The Evil Within 2 (pc) Dead Space 2 (pc) L.A. Noire (pc) Fallout New Vegas (pc) Binary Domain (replay on pc) Condemned: Criminal Origins (pc) Resi 4 (pc) Resi 5 (pc) Killer is Dead (pc) The Last Door - Collectors Edition (pc) Lucius 2 (pc) Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number (pc) The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 1-3 (pc) Shadowrun Returns (pc) Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition (pc) Alan Wake (pc) The Marvellous Miss Take (pc) God Mode (pc) The Walking Dead Season 1 (pc) and Season 2 (ps4 through plus) The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (pc) Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (pc) Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter (pc) Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (pc) Mount & Blade: Warband (pc) Metero Last Light Redux and 2033 Redux (pc) Arkham series replay all on pc except knight (pc) Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (pc) Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 (pc) Darksiders 2 whatever edition (pc) Undertale (pc) Grand Ages: Rome and The Guild II stuff ideally (pc) The Flame in the Flood (pc) Titan Souls (pc) SteamWorld Heist (pc) Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (pc) Mr. Shifty (pc) Deponia (pc) We Are The Dwarves (pc) The Dwarves (pc) Outlast (pc) Grim Fandango Remastered (pc) Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (pc) Jotun: Valhalla Edition (pc) Layers of Fear (pc) Mighty No. 9 (plus game so meh, ps4) Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (psvr) Doom VFR (psvr) Windlands (psvr) Light Tracer (psvr) Bloody Zombies (psvr) The Solus Project (psvr) Grand Kingdom (ps4) Psycho-pass: Mandatory Happiness (ps4) Uncanny Valley (ps4) Final Fantasy Type-0 HD (ps4) MGS 2-4 (ps3) Tokyo Jungle (ps3) Alienation (ps4) Life is Strange (ps4) And I want to play more Chivalry: Medeval Warfare (pc), Crawl (pc), and Tabletop Simulator (pc), along with Rec Room (psvr) and Werewolves Within (psvr) Those are just games I WANT to play, there are a bunch I'm meh about. Within the next few weeks I'll also have purchased at least: No Heroes Allowed! VR (PSVR) Stark Trek: Bridge Crew (probably) (PSVR) Hidden Agenda (ps4) and have these games due to amazon prime next month: SteamWorld Dig 2, Kingsway, and Tokyo 42 (have the other 2 on twitch prime already) Then whatever ps+ gives. I'll also pre order yakuza 6 and kiwami 2 without a doubt. Plus buy a lot of games from sales. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also yes I've been doing a decent amount of gaming. I beat Knack, Ratchet and Clank, Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom, finished Bloodborne (did all dlc bosses but the flame one cuz meh didn't even want to try and I did the moon presence 3 cords playthrough), Bound, Archangel, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and MGS 5: The Phantom Pain (finished it, got the true ending) this year so far (at least, maybe 1 or 2 more as well)

I got about halfway through WoFF and gave up unfortunately. Really tried to like it. I also tried to play as the non-chibi versions as much as possible. But I hated that transitioning back and forth was an integral mechanic to the game. Really took me out of the experience.
@jhemp6 жыл бұрын
Alsop's Gaming I guess there's a limit to what we can accept and we have different limits, while I honestly think Chibi style stuff looks dumb, if I really try its easy enough to get passed. I just fail to see a reason to make "cute" things in what should be a more adult game. WoFF was aimed at younger people so I guess I can get it on that side, and I get that the sprites are probably easier to animate and produce, but real praise comes when you do difficult things and do them well. So I'm with you on not liking it, but I doubt it'll detract from my experience too greatly.

I've got about 22-25 hours into this game and just got to the middle of the map in Hydropolis. At first, I literally walked everywhere, so that added time. I explored a lot and ended up in some places with some high level monsters lol. I think if I get 40-50 hours in this one like I did the first game, I'll be happy. This is a great review. I was VERY hesitant when they introduced the new battle system and skirmishes, took out Familiars and added Higgledies, and made Evan look very feminine... But, after playing it, my thoughts completely changed. I love the combat and feel like a badass. Higgledies add great depth to the fights and have saved me quite a few times. Evan is a solid lead. The whole kingdom building and citizen mechanic is my favorite part of the game. I spend a lot of time tracking down new citizens so I can maximize my IQ in my kingdom. Overall, I think this game is easy for new/casual players to pick up but in depth enough to keep JRPG fans satisfied. Easy 9/10 for me.

I really like you guys but even though no one should be safe from valid criticism. So even if I get slapped by angry fans, here goes: How in the world did you see an 9.5 in Ni nu Kuni 2. It is, graphics and cuteness aside, a slightly above average JRPG. It suffers from many shortcomings in: -Voice acting ( only very few scenes are VA) -story arcs (Hydropolis is seriously rushed) -character development (6 characters but only 2 seem to make some progress 2/3s into the game) -difficulty (feels too easy. you have to fall behind in levels to make the game a challenge) Then there are rushed aspects. The world map looks nothing as the first location you start in. The fields are vibrant and full of foliage and things to look at. Later regions are way closer to the original PS3 game. Many systems, like the improvement of gear, are not needed to progress through the game. (but that could be fixed with more difficulty options) It feels like a very shallow game at times. It's cute, it makes you smile and it is fun. Yes. Absolutely a positive score. But 9.5?! NEAR PERFECT?! How do you even....what?!
@tyototriumphs78616 жыл бұрын
I hold your opinion in high regard, and you're seemingly one of the few that realizes how severely lacking certain aspects of this game are. For me, its a 6.5/10. When combat isn't mindlessly easy, the story misses so many beats for me. The main cast is very one note, especially characters like Batu that are just kinda.......there.....Nothing about the story was unique and honestly I'm really bothered by the high praise when this game borders on average. This game is, simply put, a decent game. Its well put together, and has good moments, but it feels empty despite how full of life it appears to be at the start. If I had the point out my favorite part, I'd probably say that Zip's redemption arc and how much he means to Bracken was the only moment where I felt something.

Then run past all the enemies and only fight what it in Red. Those are overlevelled. :/ Some people prefer the easy, because they don't want to mindlessly hit every enemy 20 times.

Metacritic is at 85 for this game right now, so people seem to be positive to very positive in this case. Loved the first game, but for some reason never finished it (got like 30 hours in, I believe). The difficulty seems to be a point of discussion, as the game seems a bit on the easier side. To me, that aint a huge deal as long as it plays well, and it seems like it does. And those graphics! Wow. I'll take graphics like these over a photo-realistic game any day.

@InMaTeofDeath6 жыл бұрын
Having finished it yeah the story isn't great, imo the very best part storywise was the very beginning with that huge event, that kept me wondering wtf was going on for long enough to get my kingdom. After that upgrading your kingdom is fun enough to keep the game going but that was really the only worthwhile bit.

God, thank the comments in IGN's review. They said Easy Allies did a better job reviewing this game, and you really did. It's not the fact that you gave it a higher score, but the fact it seems you actually played it thoroughly in the first place. IGN docked the game for being too easy, which was annoying.

Challenging combat is the most important thing in a JRPG. Without it, all other systems are unnecessary, since there is no reason to power up your character. Let's hope the combat is at least enjoyable; otherwise the only draw of this game is its narrative.

Depends how bulked up the side content is, Yakuza 6 is around that long but has some cool side activities. I for one will enjoy the rts and kingdom building. Also persona 5 needed to be that long, you need time to relax and build up relationships and so forth between dungeon stress of trying to do a dungeon in one sitting (well to the treasure, then another for boss) Persona 5 is perfect on pacing, exactly where it should be given the gameplay style of management, relationship building, and dungeons.

Played until chapter 6, and gave up. This game has so much grind, and so many fetch quests is not even funny. But I think that the straw that broke the camel's back was the fact that we have to recruit to level up the kingdom, and to recruit first you have to go on some fetch quest. Repeat it 25/50 times. Boring af

@w0ng6596 жыл бұрын
lacunarikain2 Really you don’t get how people don’t enjoy grinding? in the first game i had to grind 10 fucking times for like 4 hours each time i grind it was terrible and normal enemies give jack shit for exp the only way to level up normally is to grind on tokos and them appearing is like what a 30% chance of appearing and most sidequests are the same shit and repetitive i ended up just skipping all of the sidequest’s text the only ones that are fun are the post game ones where you fight recolors of all the bosses again and even that is lazy as shit since they’re all just recolors in my opinion the first game had a hell of alot more flaws than the second game.

Same, I lost interest in this one. The 1st was my all time fav, especially how the capturing monsters whereas this one completely removed it. Which turn out this is a big disappointment. I would rated 8 at best since I completed it.

I love the Allies but after playing the game I disagree with the score. The lack of effort put into the voice acting and general cinematic feel of the game, especially compared to the first game, really hurts things. Building your kingdom is fun but for the most part you won’t need to delve too deeply into it just to finish the game - there are a lot of unnecessary systems at play. Still enjoyed it but probably a 7.5 for me

You guys must have written that review on acid. Except for its musical score, this game is deeply flawed. The combat is shallow, unengaging, and most of the systems (weapon slots, "pikmin", power meter) are completely pointless for 95% of the game. All you do in the early game is mash buttons, encounters turn into tedium after half an hour in the first open world section. The story and characters are boring and under-developed - the most interesting part to it happening in the opening cinematic. How anyone could say that this game was "brilliant" and an "improvement" in literally every department over its predecessor is completely beyond me. Did we play the same game?

Maybe there is a challenge in the optional content, and they just made the story less grindy. I don't know anything about the first game, but bosses that have a billion health and basic AI aren't fun, bosses that have a challenging AI, that don't require me to luck my way through, are fun. That is one of the reasons monster Hunter is doing well right now, and the whole RNG thing is a big reason why fighting Kirin sucks in said game. You can only roll into that 4th horizontal lightning stream that wasn't supposed to be there so many times.

Spiderman - The Emissary From Hell uhh what? Of course the score tells you something about the game. A perfect score tells you that the reviewer thinks that the game is perfect, without having any noticeable flaws. "What is actually being said" is that he thinks this game has too many flaws, not actually warranting for an almost perfect score. Did you also get graded at school for an A+ even if you fail all your exams?

+Marco Funke Sure there is. Voice acting is a much more prestigious profession in Japan and, as a result, Japanese voice actors are in general far more talented than their western counterparts. Western voice acting philosophy tends to be "get a talented actor for the main character and whoever is cheap to fill out the rest of the cast." Japanese voice casts are much more consistent.
