On July 1st, 1969, my cousins Tom and Joey Piskor picked me up, and the 3 of us drove from our rural area south of Buffalo, NY to Niagara Falls, NY, a journey of less than 1 hour. The American Falls portion of Niagara Falls, had been turned off by Engineers, to allow Scientists to study and determine whether or not the erosion of the Falls could be stopped.
Due to financial restraints of government it could not happen, and since 1969, it has been determined that the erosion has allowed the Falls to lose about 30-40 feet in distance.
A cofferdam was bulldozed into place between the City of Niagara Falls, and Goat Island separating the rapid of the Niagara River; yet, due to the shale and limestone, a small ditch of water was allowed to flow through, to keep the rocks moist enough to prevent fissures to form and collapse during the study.
This film was shot on a Kodak Super 8 home movie camera, and the film is silent, meaning there is no sound on it at all.
