The fact that this song is a true story just makes me want to cry. We just sometimes brush it off and that it's just his life and we should respect his songs and the story behind it, but when he tells you the story and you come back and listen to the song your like "oh god it's totally connected" and you feel like you were there for him when it all happened. This is the beauty of Niall and his songs. He feels comfortable enough to tell us that and I just love him for that.

Jannah Khaled there was a live of his where he explained all the songs on HBW and he had said that Dress was about a dress of a person who he was with and after 8 weeks he went back to his wardrobe and saw a white dress of that persons and it was also in the background picture on that persons phone. He said he looked at and thought about throwing it out but didn’t want to because he wasn’t ready to. I’ll give you the links to the livestream and the part where he explains the song.

Based on a true story! Niall has the dress in his wardrobe and saw around 8 weeks after the breakup. It was a whits dress. And the line “the one in the picture”, is based on the fact that, the photo was the other persons phone wallpaper!💔
