The mystery of the Sith that Mace Windu (Sam Jackson) is talking about is how they’ve survived. They were believed wiped out a thousand years ago and somehow they’ve managed to hide in corners of the galaxy, away from the Jedi being able to sense them. Also, Yoda is the grandmaster of the Jedi council. He partially trains pretty much everyone who passes through the Jedi temple, mostly from a young age, and provides guidance to everyone when they need it as well.

You were completely right at 35:13! Even though Anakin eventually fell to the dark side, it is how his destiny was meant to play out as the Chosen One. In the end of Ep 6, Anakin came back to the light and completed the prophecy of the Chosen One by saving Luke and killing the Emperor, thus bringing balance to the force. Also this is not a theory, George Lucas himself comfirmed that Anakin was the Chosen One, not Luke. Luke was simply the catalyst to bring Vader back to the light and complete the prophecy. It is very impressive that you were able to pick that up instantly, many reactors simply dismiss Anakin being the Chosen One because he eventually fell to the dark side. So it's really cool that you picked up the whole "chosen one thing" so quickly. Also the fact that you mentioned how history might have changed if Qui Gon had survived and trained Anakin instead of Obi Wan is also very true. Funnily enough the music which plays during the Darth Maul vs Qui Gon and Obi Wan fight is called "Duel of the Fates". As the outcome of that duel (more specifically who dies in the duel) would decide the fate of Anakin and the Galaxy.

I agree!! I have so many positive memories associated with Episode 1. When my brother and I watched the VHS we made a makeshift podracer out of empty boxes and tape. When the podracing scene would come on we would take turns getting in and pretending we were in the race. I had a Star Wars themed birthday party with my whole family in a park by where we lived. We all had lightsabers and I knew the choreography to the Obi-Wan Maul fight by heart. Qui Gon has always been my favorite Jedi and the first time I saw Maul I was amazed. Jar Jar always made me laugh when I was a kid and my tio would do a funny impression of him for us when we were little. Phantom Menace gets waaaay too much unnecessary hate and rewatching it as an adult the political undertones of the film are SO engaging and captivate the lore of the Republic at the time. Padme is an absolute badass, eloquent, and beautiful. Jake Lloyd's performance as Anakin and his dynamic with Shmi is so underrated in my opinion! The last time I rewatched the Episode 1 I got really emotional seeing Anakin leave Tatooine. All around its a great film and its so nice to see other people appreciate Episode 1 :')

12:26 Nia, Maul is refereeing to the Jedi-Sith War, a thousand years prior to this story, so the Jedi's Army of Light conducted crusades against the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness. Within the conflict, the Sith had taken over Coruscant, and later the Jedi liberated the planet. Though the Sith nearly succeeded in conquering the Republic, they were defeated by the Jedi order and believed to be extinct up until this point.

@@adamyoung6797 I would argue 2 points: 1) "Purity" is not the same as "Balance". If Lucas meant "Purity" and wrote "Balance", then he isn't as good a writer as he gets credit for. 2) Just because the in-story general consensus interprets prophecy one way, does not mean that that is what the prophecy actually meant (which is a common theme in lots of other works). I would say that while Lucas might have wanted the prophecy to mean bring Purity to the force, the story actually worked out to bring Balance to the force. There might be some subconscious writer's slip in there somewhere.

Hey Nia, many fans have postulted that if Qui-Gon Jin had survived to train Anakin then there would be little chance of him turning to the Dark side.------ This comes from the fact that it was only Qui - Gon who believed in Anakin, and that lack of belief has followed him his entire life. ----- Plus Qui-Gon would have taught Anikin to face and understand his dark side in order to find balance within himself. -------- Instead of surpressing it to the point of the Emperor's manipulation.

Anakin's innate force power was so great that as a kid he could do a thing no other human could because it defies the limit of normal reflexes and perception. Not only did he win the race, he did so whilst being sabotaged constantly and driving distracted as he was fixing his pod while careening through the desert with the tusken raiders shooting and the canyon walls. It's not directly stated but if you construct an argument for the pod race, he is clearly god-tier just getting out of bed in the morning. Luke had to focus to use the force to blow up the death star. Anakin just hopped in and drove the pod and didn't let anything stop him. Casual but not without effort.

There is a comic that takes place about two years after this movie. And it basically sums up Anakin and Obi Wan's relationship in a way that I thought was criminal that we never got to see it. In short, Anakin feels like Obi Wan sees him as a burden and is a bit vocal about it. He's frustrated, he has little to no friends at the Jedi Temple, and Obi Wan is always going on missions. He tells Obi Wan "I know you only got stuck with me because Qui Gon died". But Obi Wan says to him "I never thought that I was the one who got stuck with you. I always felt that you were the one who got stuck with me." That dynamic is a perfect set up for how their relationship goes. If that's the starting point, even if they never said it again, you know they both harbored those feelings. It's like a grown child who has to take care of their younger sibling when their parents are dead. The feelings are understandable but very hard to get past

For the record, the explanation for why it was retconned out that Yoda was Obi-Wan's master is that technically, Obi-Wan never said he was Yoda's Padawan, just that Yoda "instructed" him. Yoda did in fact give basic training to all the Jedi Younglings before they became full Padawans. So technically, Yoda was kind of like his Jedi kindergarten teacher.

Regarding Anakin and the "chosen one" prophecy: as you know from Return of the Jedi, he DOES become good again in his final moments when he saves Luke and tosses the Emperor down the shaft, killing him. So when the prophecy says that he will "bring balance" to the force, that's exactly what he ended up doing, regardless of what happened before that point. The Episodes 2 and 3 really show Anakin's transformation.

Liam Neeson was very busy with various productions at the time and was in huge demand and agreed to do this episode because Qui-Gon Jinn dies, and he won't be obligated to do more. 4. How Jar Jar becomes a "general" is beyond me. 5. It's easy to know why this one didn't start the series because of the lack of CGI back in 1977. 6. Of all the reviewers I have watched you were the first to notice the Queen switch-a-roo. 😎 7. Here's where you lose me. My ranking of the original 6 episodes: VI/V/IV/I/III/II 8. Of the prequels Revenge of the Sith is the best of the three. No questions about that. This one is not good but what makes it better than Attack of the Clones, (which is AWFUL, It is the worst of the Prequels) is the pod racing and that amazing duel with the Duel of the Fates soundtrack. Other than that, is not a good movie and GL apparently forgot the story he already had in made when he did the Originals and screw some things with this. The biggest thing is he forgot that Padmé didn't die in the original story and lived with Leia in Alderaan and that is what Leia remembers her mother and say she died when she was very young. Another thing that GL forgot was that Owen was actually Obi Wan's brother and not Anakin's step brother like he decided to do. and so on. About Qui-Gon Jinn dying, apparently he was the only one who died from a lightsaber stab cause apparently in the future that is not enough to kill people.

When you’ll get to the most recent trilogy (the last one), some awesome surprises will wait for you in episode 7 … by then you’ll get to know much, much more about the Force, I am sure. I hope nobody will spoil anything in their comments. Looking forward to your next reaction. Salutations from Romania …

The journey to becoming a Jedi is interesting. In Empire Strikes Back, Yoda says Luke is too old to begin the training. That makes sense because he is in his 20's and we didn't know anything about the Jedi. In Phantom Menace, Anakin is considered too old, which raises the question as to how young do you have to be to begin training? You'll see that in the next movie. It really is a lifetime commitment of training from Youngling, to Padawan, to Jedi Knight and hopefully becoming a Jedi Master sitting on the Council.

one of the best reactions to this entire franchise is when people realize they weren't going crazy wondering why Natilie Portman was both the queen and the handmaiden. LOL gold every time. However, they did a great job with the doppelganger because its not actually Natilie Portman playing both. They used Kiera Knightly for the double.

When it comes to strong female leads in star wars, Leia was a beast but her mother was a savage. Padmé was so much fun to watch when these came out. Britney Spears was all over the radio and Friends and The Real World were popular culture content. And then at least we got some new star wars that included the baddest B in the galaxy's mom turning out to be badder. I'll stop saying bad now.

You had asked in Return of the Jedi about that weird dynamic where the Emperor wanted Luke to kill Vader, his own apprentice. But earlier, in Empire Strikes back, Vader had tried to tempt Luke to join him to kill the Emperor. They reference it at the end of this movie. The Sith were so power-hungry there couldn't be a lot of them, so they had "The Rule of Two". There would only be one master and one apprentice, and each were always looking for someone to recruit to help take out the other.

by atomizing the emperor and then expire himself, he brought balance to the force, fulfilling the prophecy. Star Wars is only 6 movies, some cool tv shows like the clone wars that flesh out the movies, but everything is about Anakin and no one else

If I have ONE compliment about JarJar, it's that he makes great comic relief. Qui-Gon is definitely one of my favorite members of the Jedi Order, along with Yoda and Mace Windu. Also, the Podrace spectator isn't the only Star Wars character that Warwick Davis has played. He was also Wicket the Ewok in Return Of The Jedi.

Another great Star Wars reaction from you. You asked some good questions. When you asked about the mystery of the Sith that Samuel L. Jackson was mentioning, he was referring to the disappearance of the Sith ( evil Practitioners of the Force ) for over a 1000 years. The 'rule' of the Sith is that there can only be 2 Sith at any time..one master and one apprentice. The reason for this was that over 1000 years previously, there were many Sith, but their hate, and greed for power caused them to fight amongst themselves, until one Sith, named Darth Bane decided this could not work with so many Sith, so he created the RULE OF TWO and killed all the other Sith. They then decided to 'hide away from the Jedi until they felt the time was right to find a weakness and over throw the Jedi, which brings us to the movie you are watching - PHANYOM MENACE where you hear Darth Maul say 'At last we shall reveal ourselves to the Jedi'...and its all down hill from here! Hope you enjoy the next one, episode two, which will jump ahead 10 years into the future when Anakin is a bit older. Thanks for this review and keep asking those great questions! Keep smiling 🙂👍

Aye!!!!! Looking forward to this reaction. Some of your questions from the orginal trilogy will be answered as well. The story isn't the best when it comes with the political side of Star Wars, but I love how we get to explore more of the lore of the Jedi and the Sith. Plus, Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn was perfect casting choice! The fight choreography is excellent as well. Regardless, curious to hear your thoughts 🙏🏽

35:50 Notice how Yoda says "Grave danger I *fear* in his training" ? Eventhough earlier in the film he was the one who admonished little Ani for fearing for his mother's safety? You know the whole "Fear is the path to the Dark side. Fear leads to anger..." speech? It's an early sign how much the Jedi have lost their way, that their oldest and supposedly wisest leader fails to spot his own blatant hypocrisy in making two such contradictory statements.

couple cool theories: 1 - Qui-Gon was a father figure to both Obi-Wan and Anakin, who both clearly have more of a brother relationship. The music playing during the fight with Darth Maul is called duel of the fates. Anakin might have turned out differently had he had the father figure instead of an older brother, not that Obi-Wan wasn't good, it's just not what Anakin needed growing up. 2 - You're Padme in this, who do you think you're more attracted to? Obi-Wan or little boy Anakin? Perhaps Vader's hatred for Obi-Wan is a bit more than just brotherly rivalry. Obi-Wan does make a good uncle to Leia and Luke either way.

19:17 "I wonder what would've- what would've happened if we left him here. If he never became a Jedi, would he never have become a Sith?" That is a _distinct_ possibility. It's also likely he would've ended up a _slave,_ again. I don't know how you feel about _that,_ but try to remember, the Emperor already had plans in _place_ to take _over_ the Republic, kill all the Jedi, and turn the Republic to an _empire._ After that, he had plans to crush the _Rebellion,_ and Luke proved instrumental in _thwarting_ those plans. Now bear in mind that Luke would never have been _conceived_ if Anakin had never had the chance to settle down with _Padme._

20:57 The queen can't do anything because Tatooine is located in the Outer Rim which is outside the Republic's jurisdiction. That's why slavery is legal on the planet. And since we know that Watto doesn't accept Republic credits, they would have to find a way to get whatever the currency is on the planet. But yes, they should've purchased her freedom.

This is a spoiler free comment. Fans are mostly upset with the prequels because of what could have been, but it's generally agreed that you watch in order 4,5,6,1,2,(an episode from the Clone Wars show that introduces G.G. - have to ask someone what that should be),3, & Rogue One Other Movies and shows are optional, Except The Mandalorian, definitely put that on the list.

26:54 Listen, the Prequels retconned a lot of stuff from the Original Trilogy. Don't think too hard or your head will hurt. Canonical explanation: Yoda is the Grand Master of the Jedi Order. So he's overseen the basic saber training of all Jedi when they were kids (this will get explained in Episode 2, so spoiler.) But as far as actual training like how Yoda did Luke... no Qui-Gon trained him.
