Huh. Fun cameo I had forgotten about. When they show the gene splicing lab, of course that is Christoper Lee (Count Dooku and Saruman) but the red headed twin guys are the security guard in the psych hospital and the copy of him from Terminator 2!

Christopher Lee was also Count Dracula in a Series of films from The Hammer House Of Horror. Covering the period between the late `50`s & mid `70`s. Which is why I think, he was looking at the Gargoyle like Gremlin in the way he did.

I’m happy people get to see the theatrical cut. They re-did the scene for the VHS release and it was absolutely lame by comparison. Hulk Hogan may have been the biggest name in wrestling at the time.

You were right that lead scientist (Christopher Lee) plays Saruman in the Lord of the Rings movies. The old man dressed up like like a vampire played on a old tv show called The Munsters and that was how he looked on the show. About the giant spider, there are a bunch of horror movies about giant spiders. There is a giant spider in the Lord of the Rings book. She was intelligent and could talk in the book, it was changed for the movie. I would definitely recommend you watch Marathon Man to get the dentist reference, good movie

Gremlins 2 is a fun ride and glad you liked it! Well done for recognising him. R.I.P. to the Lord Of Darkness - Christopher Lee. He transcended different genres but often regarded as one of the faces of horror. One of the greatest auras in film. If it wasn't that iconic delivery and speaking tone, he could command a room with no dialogue with his facial expressions and those piercing eyes alone. Dracula Fu Manchu The Wicker Man James Bond Lord Of The Rings Star Wars The list goes on and what a legacy!

The Brain Gremlin might not have been lying about wanting civilization. I mean, think about what the Gremlins have done in these movies. It's really a spectrum of behavior. Some of them are k*llers, but some of them just want to pig out and sing musical numbers. They're intelligent, they have a level of cooperation and coordination in their efforts, they even have a certain sense of style. And frankly, the humans who fight them cause a *lot* more damage. In the first movie, a bunch of them were just sitting in a theater watching Snow White, and Billy blew up the place. Are they really *that* much worse than humans?

The spider gremlin was referential of dozens of sci-fi B movies spanning 3 decades preceding this movie. And yes, Dr. Catheter was portrayed by Christopher Lee, who also played Saruman in the LOTR fims.

The Spider(1958), Invasion Of The Giant Spiders(1975) just to name a few, but between the giant spider movies and those that included big spider-like mutant/alien creatures, there were literally dozens upon dozens of them. Gremlins 2 referenced classic horror/sci-fi at every turn... the clip of the 'octopus alien' flick, the horror TV host based on Grandpa Munster, etc... Even Christopher Lee's casting was a reference to his roles as Dracula in 1970's Hammer Horror films.

Also, his original role was supposed to be more villainous, but Glover made him too likeable so they got rid of the subplot about his political aspirations. I think this movie was the first time I heard the term "smart building" way back in the day... but it didn't click in my head that it would an actual thing until decades later 😂.. Gremlins were def the movies that helped me get over scary movies when I was a small potato. It has some semblance of a scary monster movie but it isn't that at all! Quite fun, really.

These movies. Credit where it's due to the real good camera work. Otherwise these puppets though. They are really cool in person. I got to handle all the puppets from the Snow White theater scene at a trade show once. There is an obscene amount of detail put into those things. I remember being bummed that the ones from this movie, the spider especially weren't there. Otherwise this movie was an ad for toys, especially a video game and that's about it. Watch Gizmo and the Gremlins do their thing and think about buying that squeaky Gizmo plush (I was that sucker lol). It was just a whole thing in that era in entertainment though partly because that was the only way things like this ever got greenlit to begin with.

And they wanted to keep it a secret so they kept it in a room without cameras... And when the good guy rescues gizmo he leaves him in a file cabinet in the rich company unattended so he can finish his 9 to 5. Well, that's 90s logic for ya
