Such a shame they forgot the critical rules to doing a major shift in a integeral part of any game: 1. Bloody make sure to beta test it so it doesnt look like some 5 minute G-mod product situation (The clipping problem). 2. If a company is gonna offer money without you actually getting the time to actually properly implement whatever crap they want, then you really should NOT be the dumbarse to take it in the first place. Even if it AINT Woke Pandering pushing crap. 3. Actually remember in the wise words of Goro Majima from Yakuza: `The Customer is the King.`~ or something along those lines, AKA PANDER TO YOUR CUSTOMERS FIRST AND FOREMOST, not some stupid company who likely dont even know wtf game/show/media you even develop is in the first place. Moral of the story: Never treat whatever support beams that actually keep your product afloat as `unnecessary`. Especially when you literally live underneath them.

@@kelseyjaffer the US government directly financially supports DEI movements, and if i'm not mistaken, developers taking part in DEI implementation makes the company pay less taxes or some bs, so it's extra money in the company's pocket regardless, as well as extra money for the DEI advisors. and, while yes you're technically right, there was some effort, you cannot say the effort was high enough or that the results were good at all. if the effort is counterproductive to the objective, then i'll never count it as it being made in the first place. waste of resources, freedom taken away from the players and direct insults towards them aren't effort that should be recognized in the slightest.

My guess is that they wanted a more realistic look over the more anime-esque aesthetic. You can tell by the eyes. The eyes became more detailed as a result of this update. My guess is that they wanted to further move away from the more stylized counterpart as well as reduce the complexity of the avatar system for older phones.

It's a visual update, that on typical Niantic fashion, didn't get enough QA. I'm sure they outsource their QA to india or Croatia. Every feature they drop, there's always some bug; however, as a fellow game developer, new features are good. Bug fixes will be coming for the clipping art, I'm sure if it. I worked on a live game for ten years.

@benlarson6031 It means a consultancy firm hired by Niantic called GaymerX (look it up), along with a number of individuals high up in Niantic who happen to be trans pushed for this change. That's why your female characters don't have hips and your make characters look androgynous. Because when they say, "See yourself" they mean "See myself". Because they're unhinged weirdlets that hate what they can never be.

I installed the game again after a year or two, having left the game behind after it became tedious to make progress on my collection and required joining more and more paid events to keep up with acquiring the best new pokemon. Some people spent real money for years to work on their outfit wardrobe and put together looks that they liked. Taking away the classic look after these investments users made to curate that look is the equivalent of a forced repo of a car line for absolutely no technical or safety reason, forcing people to replace their personal vehicles with a new look because they decided that their original designs didn't reflect the look they wanted their brand to present like now, in spite of what the owners felt. Imagine what a proud owner of a classic car would do. There would be an over 50% refusal rate and lawsuits would be immediately filed. All they had to do was allow the classic models to be selected. Some of the models of the NPC characters were not changed so they can't even claim that the meshes were no longer available, as they continue to be used in the game actively.
