The last line about the context *"The Pear tree is still as beautiful as before, blooming as before but she feels empty all inside. It is as if everything remains the same but her world is totally changed"* made me sentimental. These few lines explained to me the deep meaning of the story which I did not understand before reading it by myself. So I heard many explanations but no explanation could affect me as much as this line did. Hats off to you ma'am❤❤❤

Good afternoon ma'am, Thanks for this short video... I just completed reading the whole text and I am fascinated with Mansfield's expression and the way she repeats words twice in a way to attract reader's attention presenting a conversing tone within the text... At first I too felt that it's a story about Bertha Young's psyche between homosexuality and heterosexuality but then by the end I eventually realised it's more about her emotional journey throughout, her dilemma between her idealised bliss and the actual physical way bliss is attained ...Bertha is like a daydreaming woman who though is well aware of reality, loves to be an ignorant and choose to live in her own delusive reality . Her pear tree according to me may have three symbolism one it might symbolise her ideal husband or ideal bliss , then her own dreamy manifestation and the last the reality of its own identity as a tree .... Mansfield presents Bertha in the beginning as a typical fairytale heroine only to deconstruct it in the end with her shattered reality....

Wonderful explanation as ever! What I gathered from the same is that Bertha and Blance- these two characters from two different texts do share a great similarity; both of them were living in a world of illusion, that came crashing down before them, thereby making them confounded as to what to do next, now that their life has finally been exposed to the harsh reality. In this respect, I feel, the Pearl tree is reminiscent of the Tree of Knowledge in the Genesis of The Bible. Please ratify my observation, ma'am 🙏
