I was blessed to hear this performance live with my family. I have never forgotten it but James Ehnes is such a very special human being in addition to be such a joy to listen to playing the violin.

Runor is the violin caught on fire right afterwards, and that Ehnes switched and played Chopin’s 2nd piano concerto on the piano. Am I correct?

This playing is so incredibly flawless, compared to most renditions which often have a few mistakes (no judgement it's a bloody technical piece), but this one is perfection.

AlbanZap He completely missed the string pluck. That's why you can year a chuckling in the audience
@Hi-ke1kn
@Hi-ke1kn 7 жыл бұрын
He didn't miss it, he just plucked the string softly. As for the audience's laughter I'm not sure but most likely it's because they enjoyed that part.
@toddwilkins8177
@toddwilkins8177 7 жыл бұрын
There was no mistake. I was at the concert, and the string pluck was was as clear as daylight in the hall. The reason as to why people were chuckling in the audience was because it it was executed perfectly.

James Ehnes is the Violin God. Such a pure, distinctive style, with absolutely perfect technique and consummate musicianship. To hear him play the Bach Chaconne live (on two different occasions) has been my ultimate concert going experience. The notes, the violin, the man, and the concert hall all disappeared; all that was left was the most pure music making I have ever witnessed. Yes, it was Bach himself that was in the hall.

It looks like his bow is over his finger board there so try that maybe? As far as I know as a cellist, bowing closer to the bridge produces a better sound when you press extremely hard.

Sebastiaan Kulwanowski I think it's just like when you play piano, where you move closer/ over the fingerboard to create a lighter tone. you shouldn't press hard with your bow, try that :)

Bazzini: Ronde des Lutins, Wieniawski Etude Caprice, Paganini Caprice no5, no 10, Ysaye: Ballade. Those are just a few for solo violin. If you want to move to the bigger rep, I'd recommend to start listening to Tchaikovsky violin concerto, or the Mendelssohn Violin concerto.
