@@ORCINUS I don’t understand what’s “forced” about them, there’s tons of pieces that use harmonics like that. He didn’t invent harmonics, he just seems to be using them at a much higher level than most other pieces have, and than other violinists are capable of. He’s insanely good and is definitely doing new things with them, but it’s not a technique that’s never been done before.

Pretty much! I would actually say that the only exception is Kreisler, who made I Palpiti harder than Paganini's original composition of the piece, but Roman Kim is in a league of his own. This rendition is much, MUCH harder than Kreisler (with maybe the exception of Kreisler's octaves passage at the very end)

Best in terms of technique, not overall. For that I think Vengerov can compete well, as he has amazing interpretations and insane technique as well. He doesn't have recorded footage of playing God Save the King ans I'm not sure if he even played it, but he played a piece that is similar to that level: The Last Rose of Summer from Ernst. And of course he played all of the other musically hard pieces like Bach and other concertos.

I agree. I don't understand how many violinists who are mediocre compared to him have millions of followers. The difference between being and actor and a star. One is concerned with performance, the other just with fame. (and hiring the best publicists. They tell people, "This guy is the best! And people, not knowing any better believe whatever they are told".

I dont see how anyone could envy him at all. Envying him would be tossing dirt on the thousands of hours he’s spent mastering his craft. Roman Kim is amazing, and although he might have a small audience, he’s entertained, and inspired many.

Aside from all the spectacular and dazzling technical wizardry, you have absolute control of rhythm. Huberman said rhythm was the most important thing in music and he was absolutely right. I would give a lot of money to see Heifetz's face if you had played this in one of the California master classes...what would he have said? or done? Probably would have grinned and told you to stand still, then stood up and tried out some of the new techniques you have invented. Probably he would have mastered most of them - even the forced harmonics, after some practice - but not the triple octaves, I think. Yours is incandescently brilliant playing and huge fun to watch. Thank you for the enjoyment it brings me and all of us lesser violinists

Man alive those double stop harmonics, I just can't follow even though I have played violin for years. Then he rips off incredible fast notes and ornaments perfectly in tune like they are nothing. So many hours of practice required to make this look easy.

Gawd dayum, this guy is good. Flawless technique. Impeccable interpretation of the music. I can't find a better rendition of this song anywhere on KZbin. Everyone else plays it like they're still learning it, with awkward phraseings. Roman makes them look like amateurs. His harmonics are clear and superb. Love watching Roman play. That's correct! Actually, Roman Kim uses a really hard technique called forced harmonics ("Kim harmonics") that sound like artificial harmonics but actually aren't. Not sure if anyone reading this will understand, but if you know violin, Roman is basically pressing down his finger lightly so that instead of getting the actual note, you get a soft, airy-like sound that's an octave higher. Roman uses this very weird and uncommon technique from 6:12 to around 8:00.
