As a builder I would have done the footings (foundations) and slab very differently. You could have issues as the ground under it settles. I like the open plan but again after manys years of design and construction experience I would tweek a few things in the lay-out. A nice bright airy well vented with good circualation home. You are right many find it hard to adjust to working in steel but you chose a good product for this project. Love the use of recycled timbers, very warm and welcoming door. Congratulations!

They don't do psi tests or anything. They just wing it and hope it works out. You can get away with a lot more in the tropics so they don't care. That house would be gone in a few years in northern climates.

Sir Jon. I would like to ask you three questions: - Are there any special authorizations for earthen construction in Thailand? - What sanitation system do you use? Toilet with running water or dry toilet? In the first case, how is the water in the toilets and the kitchen cleaned? - In connection with this video and your video on family, projects like yours are often carried out by mixed couples, one of whom is indigenous. Is this cultural fact a factor favoring the success of such projects, in your opinion?
@JonJandaiLifeisEasy3 жыл бұрын
1 We have law about building like most of the countries but outside of cities we don't have enough official to check as long as we don't change into resort or hotel we have no problem.2 we have flushed toilet. We use water from the pond next to the house . We swim we fish and pump to our filter system drink and use for everything in the house. 3 We live as a community about 20 people live together. We have people from many countries live together many of them married so we are mixed culture .

Sir Jon, thank you very much for your interest and constructive responses. In Morocco, in principle, there is no obstacle to build with earth in an area of less than one hectare unless the construction material includes concrete. From one hectare, you need an authorization to build using concrete. But this authorization depends on the agricultural zones. To dig a well, you need a permit except in certain regions that I visited recently where I was surprised to learn that the authorities were turning a blind eye. For the toilets, septic tanks are used. When she learned that I was looking to build in earth on my plot, my wife's aunt offered to lend me a room, instead, in her house in the village, while waiting to get used to life in the countryside and have a better idea on the daily life of a farmer. I think I will take the offer and try to adapt gradually. In this area, still dominates conventional agriculture, it will not be easy to experiment with another mode of agriculture. The village community helps each other for a number of projects anyway: digging a common well, restoring the mosque, for example. One must be able to convince them of other projects. In addition, I should lead two parallel lives, because my wife is not really excited about the project. But she doesn't discourage me. Thanks again. Your videos do us a great benefit. God save you and your family.

@JonJandaiLifeisEasy3 жыл бұрын
Concrete doesn't last very long. It will crack in a few year. Plastic liner is cheaper and easier and last a little longer. You can have fish in concrete pond but you need to feed them but with no concrete the earthen floor is easy for grass and other lives to grow.
