Jon Jandai explores the idea that modern life has taken us too far from our roots in the land.
Jon Jandai is foremost a farmer, secondly a widely known earthen builder in Thailand. He is from Yasothorn province in Thailand and has been farming all of his life. He also began building earthen homes on his family farm in 1997. He began doing workshops on earthen building in 2002, initially traveling the country and voluntarily teaching farmers, villager groups and NGO, creating what is now a widespread earthen building movement in Thailand. He co-founded Pun Pun in July 2003 and is most interested in preserving our heritage in seeds.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

When KZbin recommended me this talk and I realized it's from TEDxBangkok and saw the name Jon Jandia, I had to go back to my Saved TED Talk list to check if this was from the person who spoke "Life is easy. We make it hard." TED Talk that I had watched previously. Once it was confirmed, I immediately started watching this without giving it a second thought.

I can say, that, in my life, Jon is my main role model. He is questioning all of the status-driven career-models that are being marketed as bringing fullfillment in life, whereas so many people just want to have a life in nature free of all the stress and hassle, with a supportive cooperative community. I often asked myself the same questions as Jon does, but I didnt have the courage to act upon it...yet! I am just about to quit my studies and radically change my course in life towards crafts, building and farming, although my surroundings see myself as a failure now. Its tough, but thanks to people like Jon, I can make this step.

I think it good but let try to do what you say at home if you feel happy and like this work ok because this work is not easy as we think. Before I think that plant the tree and vegetables is easy just digging the land and fill some fertilizer and fill some water is enough but when we do exactly it not the same we think it not easy it hard work but for me because of love and want to be apart of saver this earth it make me can go normally. I want all of us try to live with nature it make your life is full of meaning and full of happiness. If you love nature, nature will love you and protect you as well.

Life is a balance. My grand mother used to live like that. While we moved to city, she continued to live in the village. She was a village school teacher and her husband died early. She worked all her life and made her own house one room at a time. When she passed away it was a two storied house, with a beautiful flower, fruit and vegetable garden around it, with her own well and own composting pit. When she would visit us, she would collect clothes for villagers. She would offer free tuition. She used to sew most of her own clothes. Her patio had drapes and fresh flowers. She passed away at 92, without a single disease. She left the house to me, but exchanged it with my aunt's house in the city. So her daughter lives there now.
