So sad to hear of Haydn Gwynne's passing. She was a great actress. A sad loss. And she was brilliant as Dr Robyn Penrose in this wonderful adaptation of David Lodge's excellent novel.

Excellent series, thanks for uploading. And just by the way, a little mention for Penny Bostock who plays the student Marion - what a pretty girl and very good actress. Shame she seemed not to do many more roles, as far as I can see?

Thanks for uploading this! I read the book and watched the series back then, and it's as good as I remember it. Class writing and class acting.

One of my all-time favourite novels and the TV adaptation was very true to the book, unsurprisingly as David Lodge did the screenplay. Like others I mourn the passing of Haydn Gwynne and also like others I had a Vic Wilcox like crush on her particularly fuelled by the Düsseldorf trip. I thought that the author handled the juxtaposition between academic and industrial life with great cleverness and humour. My re-watching this was caused by hearing of the sad loss of Haydn. However I’d also like to give enormous credit to Warren Clarke who portrayed Vic so brilliantly being kept confused, irritated and ultimately broken-hearted by Dr Robyn Penrose. I knew that Warren Clarke had also sadly died too young aged only 67, but also that he died penniless which seems all wrong for such a brilliant actor. RIP Warren and Haydn.

This was actually REALLY good.despite being 30 odd years old. It deserves more of an audience. Couldn't find part 2 so had to guess what went on in that episode. Thanks for the upload.

This was one of the best bits of TV at the time. I still remember the business meeting in Germany. I worked for a German company at the time.

Haydn Gwynne comes across as more feminine than the trendy Robin in the book. One of the best campus movies from a time when teaching and learning actually mattered.

Interesting and enjoyable programme. I watched all the parts, thank you. A good story ruined at times by some poor direction and editing - the flashback scenes being the low point. They were very amateurish. Haydn Gwynne is not only stunning but a terrific actress. Interesting also to see what the 80s were like. We have some nostalgia about how good it was and it seems to me that it’s not quite as rosy as we remember.

The decade of Thatcherism. I went to university in that time. Nostalgia for youth I suppose, but it was also a time of social conflict.
