I own a Niche and a friend has the DF64. he brought it over so we could do some espresso comparisons lest week and i much prefered the mouth feel and body of my niche. Some of the more subtle differences that my friend picked up on i really couldn't I put that down to me being a smoker. I really don't think i am missing out on anything not having a flat burr grinder was my conclusion. This video pretty much confirmed it. Thanks Jack!

Thank you for sharing. Sometimes I get better shots from DF64 , sometimes from the Niche. It all depends on coffee and profile I use. I would say that both of them can be a great combo.

I agree with many of the other commenters that your presentation and self depravation with honesty is great. My only request/question would be to let the pourovers cool and try again before pouring out. Other than that don’t change a thing. I own a Niche that a friend is borrowing to compare to the DF64 with lab sweets. He prefers the DF64. I’ll try them side by side soon.

Thank you very much! Sometimes I do rush those things. My family allocates only a very limited time on Sunday to record. What would be the optimal temperature? 85C?

@@mycoffeeshow111 I can totally understand that being the videographer, actor, director and taster is challenging to say the least! I guess temperature is subjective but I keep coming across videos and articles saying that the cooler a drink gets the more flavors you can taste. So my go-to temp with my ember mug is currently 53C. However I like having it from 60-50C and noticing/enjoying the flavor changes as it cools. Harder to do in video format though. Maybe one hot taste and then a cooler taste later if time permits.

Thanks Jack. This is a very important comparison given all the talk about the many burrs available for 64 mm grinders like the DF 64. As far as I can tell, there really aren't that many that make a more traditional espresso, maybe just Italmill, Mazzer flats and SSP HU? And, with that, HU doesn't seem to be for everybody's taste. I wonder if we are too busy hyping new gear when we should be getting back to basics. Seems to me like the Niche is still very much in the game.

Thx for watching. Different people like different tastes. Even myself, sometimes I look for clarity, sometimes I like reach thick shot. HU burrs for DF83 haven’t impressed me, not worth the price tag. I sold my Niche Zero long time ago but I just got Niche Duo. Unboxing video should be available very soon.

@@mycoffeeshow111 You don't need the Niche when you have the MC5! Are the flavors you have been getting from a conical like the Niche different enough from the DF 83 with the Italmill burrs to justify having both grinders? Looking forward to your review of the Duo.

Thanks for comparaison, I think this burrs are designed for filter coffee, lot of people in KZbin says that this burrs are amazing for espresso, but now with this video I don't see that, i see that they are tricky and difficult to setting for espresso, I think for me who want a balanced espresso with body and clarity and fruitness, better stay with Itamil burrs.

I need help understanding how to brew better filter coffee using SSP LS withDF64 gen2. I took out my V60 and 1zepresso zp6 and made a delicious coffee with strawberry and lavender flavors. It was so good I decided to brew a second cup using my DF64 with SSP LS (i recive recently, just 2 times use). It was really a different cup flavor. The strawberry and lavender were gone. 1zpresso setting at 52 click, DF64 at 60 So I thought it could be underextraction so I matched the grind size (50 from touching) and still nothing amazing. I'm lost, how can the same coffee with the same recipe and same water give such difference that I can't say it's the same coffee. The drawdown time was a bit longer with the SSP LS at 60 from touching and quite longer at 50. Longer contact time should result with more flavor extracted but no, only a tea like coffee without any flavor poping. Is that i season need? whats your setting?

Ok. I had some mixed luck with cast burrs. What I have been told, they need lots of seasoning. People quoted anything between 5-25kg of coffee. Yes, that much. Give them a chance. If you still don’t like them, it is easy to resell. Good luck.

Niche and 64 flat would be great combo. Niche should work perfectly for your milk drinks therefore I would recommend MP. I was disappointed with Cast burrs- very tricky for espresso, ok for pour overs but MP would be my choice. HU is also an option, although I only tried 83mm.

What about Niche compared to DF83 with SSP high uniformity burr?. I bought it and am still waiting for delivery. I’m unsure if I should start using it with the default Itamil burr or go straight to SSP HU. I don’t have a Niche but DF64 with SSP MP. I really forward to seeing how much DF83 will improve my expresso especially when using it with SSP HU.

I compared the Niche with DF83 with Itamil (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXeviWmMpruWecU) and flavours were similar but I liked the build and overall experience of DF83 more. I can’t buy everything so decided to skip on 83mm HU and possibly wait for some new burrs. My advice would be to try standard burrs first- you may like them a lot as they should compliment your df64 mp nicely.
