I first heard Mark when watching Excess Baggage. My brother, stepsister, and I rented it on VHS, and when Red House Painters' cover of "All Mixed Up" came on, I was transfixed. I watched the credits to see the name of the band. A few years later I found Songs For A Blue Guitar in a 7th Heaven, and it became one of my favorite albums, and I eventually became a musician. A decade passed, and I was playing a show in Wisconsin and someone told me about Sun Kil Moon. I heard this song, and it took me back to being 13 again, and that exact same feeling. Now I come back every few years to this performance, and it remains amazing.

+Squidward Nostrils - I think the sound you're asking about comes mostly from fingerpicking with nails a little nearer to the bridge instead of directly over the sound hole, that gives it a more treble-y, short sound. He's also using nylon strings on a classical guitar and that definitely affects the tone too, you can look up videos of other classical guitarists to hear the difference the way he plays here is making on the tone.
