Such a small detail... People (in the OPverse) say that Whitebeard could never live up to Roger, as even in the 20 years since Roger's death, Whitebeard has still not reached Raftel. But, they just showed this episode that Whitebeard was never interested in One Piece. All he wanted was a family. And he created one hell of a one!

@@sarafontanini7051 Not really. Sengoku claimed that Whitebeard was prepping Ace as his successor and future King of the Pirates. While we have no confirmation of that from Whitebeard's side, Ace's lineage from Roger, his backing from Whitebeard and his DF did make him a potential future threat which Sengoku did well to nip in the bud. Also notice with how much threat all the three Admirals and Sengoku viewed Luffy too in the war even though there were dozens of people stronger than him there on the opposing side. And look how correct they were in thinking so and how they would chastise themselves for letting him live, even though they tried their best.

@@sarafontanini7051 You think Sengoku actually believed what he was saying about Whitebeard wanting to make Ace the new Pirate King? This entire execution was another ploy by the marines to destroy the idealism of piracy by executing what they were trying to make out as the new symbol of the pirate king; his son. It didn't work because that wasn't who Ace was, and it wasn't who Whitebeard was. Neither of them wanted to become Pirate King. At the end of the day Ace found his purpose and meaning in being Whitebeard's son, not Roger's.

During the biggest defeat of the pirates and with his dying breath, Whitebeard kept Roger's dream alive. He kept the era of the pirates going when it was doomed to end. Very few authors can write as well as Oda can, and even fewer can do it without any of the main characters being present

AGAIN White Beard brazillian voice actor, Antonio Moreno (wich also do Heihachi Mishima in Tekken Bloodlines, an anime made from Netflix), passed away at 11/01/2022, but brazillian version from Marineford arch was launched after his death. He was very sick before and after pandemics, so Glauco Marques (One Piece Brazillian Dubbing Director and Zoro's voice actor) cast Antonio 2 years before Marineford arch releases on Netflix. In 2 weekends, theys do all White Beard scenes and left saved until Marineford official recording starts. Antonio's family authorized usage of his voice in anime during this arch and its was shocking for all dubbing comunnity, because no one believed that before recording he had stomach cancer and covid. Glauco Marques has a KZbin channel and have a video telling this story with more details. After that, Antonio Moreno was also know as THE VOICE EVEN DEATH COULD SHUT

Finally I almost spoiled twice this info. I wanted to add to this video that in the portuguese DUB the whitebeard dub had terminal cancer and there were 1 to 2 years till they get to marine ford dub in the time. The man that was a legend of the portuguese Dub, did all the voice lines in a weekend with the Dub director. His last words as a Dub in duty were Whitebeard last words... IMAGINE THE FEELS all the younger dubs had a care and looked up to him as all whitebeard crew's see's him

Hey Brazilian here with one curiosity about our Portuguese dub for White Beard. Our VA was a old man with a very strong voice but he was very sick. The director work with VA before the Marine Ford arc has arrived the studio... Sadly the VA dies but his voice is registered in this character where he literally give his life to do his final job. When Marine Ford arrived the studio our VA was already dead but the director has all his voice for the character. You can encounter the video of the director talking about that case if you search for "A voz que nem a morte calou" with means "The voice that even death silence" I don't know if that video has English sub but you can try if you want to know more about.

No scars on the back but only in front of you is a trope that symbolizes the courage of a warrior that nevere fleed a battle. It is also used in Kimestu no Yiaiba with Kyojuro, who similarly had only frontal wounds, while Akaza got wounded on his back by Tanjiro while fleeing in fear from the sun. Kyojuro and Whitbeard died similarly imo, both died after fighting to the end while their enemies won while cowering in fear
