All of them were amazing but my favorite was Hagrid's Hut (Gamekeeper's Cottage). It even had Fang in it.

Nice to see Carla Hall. She was fun to watch on The Chew (ABC). The top three were polished, intricate, interactive, and of impressive scale.

Beautiful creations! A goal is to enter this wonderful competition. As a creator of gingerbread houses for the Festival of Trees in Davenport, Iowa for many years I understand the intense labor of love and the magical realm one enters when creating. All masterpieces. On to 2022!

I find it interesting that most all the baking shows, the judges chastise contestants when they do not follow what the competition actually states....... Here they let it go. The title says Gingerbread HOUSE Competition. I wish they showed all the works that were there.
@NicholasLodgeschool Жыл бұрын
If you were to read the competition rules you will learn that both the contestants and judges are following the rules. The competition "title" is not part of the rules. The rules allow the contestants to use their imaginations and the judging process takes over 8 hours by 9 qualified judges to select the winners each year. All entries must be 100% edible from the top of the base up and be made of at least 75% pure gingerbread. Each year judges will drill into some entries and taste to ensure it is indeed gingerbread.

@@NicholasLodgeschool You are correct. I went to a competition of another year, and they happen to mention it. Thanks. These displays are ARTWORKS!!!! I would love to visit Ashville but After I get to visit New Bern because that is where my mom grew up. We are on Long Island, NY. If it wasn't hot in the summers in NC I would live there.................Maybe, now that I think of the poisonous snakes and bears

Ahhhh....6 minutes didn't seem long enough! The 1st place carousel was stunningly full of wonderful details!!! Beautiful. Did anyone notice the rotation was backwards? Beautiful nonetheless!
@NicholasLodgeschool2 жыл бұрын
About the rotation. Most "real" carousels do rotate counter-clockwise. However, the turntable that the photography team was using at the event only rotated clockwise, making it look like it was going backwards. The electric turntable was not part of the entry. Only part of the photography and video teams. So this would not have been a part of the judging. But still...even moving backwards it was a stunning entry and 100% edible from the top of the base and up.

don't call it a gingerbread house competition if its not gingerbread HOUSES, should be renamed to "creations made with gingerbread"

Very nice but... how did MOST of these even get into a "gingerbread HOUSE" contest?
@NicholasLodgeschool11 ай бұрын
The contest rules are that the entry has to be constructed of at least 75% gingerbread but the rules do not state that the entry has to be a "house." The Grove Park Inn has even sometimes stated, "The National Gingerbread House Competition...Where a house is not necessarily a house." This opens up more creativity for all the creators and certainly makes room for some very interesting entries! Thank you for watching!

I have to admit, I'm rather disappointed in the showing. These are not gingerbread houses. They are, at best, sculptures that happen to have some gingerbread inside them. I bet you most of these are, by weight, more colored fondant than gingerbread. While these I'm sure follow the technical rules of the contest, they do not follow the spirit of what a gingerbread house is. No decorations made of pieces of candy. No twirls of white icing on brown walls. If you can remove all the gingerbread from a piece and not see any real change, then should it really still qualify? I'm not arguing that these didn't take immense talent or technical skill, but if someone entered a sandcastle competition with a structure made of painted concrete blocks ("It's got sand in it, ain't it?") they'd probably catch a lot of flack for that.
@NicholasLodgeschool2 жыл бұрын
Please remember, this is the "National Gingerbread House Competition: Where a House is not Always a House." The strict rules state that the entries must be at least 75% real gingerbread and 100% edible from the base up. The judges spend many, many hours ensuring each entry meets the rules and guidelines. The other three categories, Child, Youth & Teen have the gingerbread features you are seeking and looking for. The Adult category has always, for the past 29 years leaned towards a more unique entry. Hopefully the "spirit" of the entries and competition will yield happiness to all...We thank you for watching...Happy Holidays!
