Old dead hard for distance is still stronger than this and the conversation feels flawed comparison to me, old dh had 2 health states to work with all of which really allowed you to maximize time spent in chase with killer since you had the speed boost from the first hit, you also cannot evade attacks like or trapper traps etc with Dramaturgy

There's one more aspect of Dramaturgy that's a little understated -- since you won't receive the same of the four random effects twice in a row, you know you'll have a 1 in 3 chance of each of the other effects whenever you use it again. That might not seem like much, but you'll know that if you get the exposed effect you won't receive it the next time you'll use the skill.

Exactly! The only use of the perk that is a 1 in 4 chance for a given effect is the very first use of it. Every use afterwards is a 1 in 3 chance and you know which 3 it is which is very handy.

You can combine it with Calm Spirit (remove the random scream giving you away) and Vigil to turn the 12 second expose into an 8.4 second expose ontop of the faster exhaustion recovery. An 8.4 second expose is pretty much nothing as a drawback if you're using it to close the distance to a window or pallet that's going to extend the chase far beyond that anyway in a situation where you otherwise would have took a hit.

Great breakdown, one thing I feel got overlooked and that is that certain killers are going to counter this perk very hard, plague, legion, and to a lesser extent any stealth killer that might get a free hit to start the chase.

The killer nerfs and busted survivor perks are par for the course, but the forced look down animation, that's what will cause a lot problems. @@justokgaming.2695 yeah the forced look down is very unneeded, and as someone who's mained Sadako for almost their entire time playing this game I feel like if the rework comes to live - which it likely will cause as we've seen with the overheat mechanic on hillbilly, BHVR don't like to scrap worthless code - then a lot of sadako players will give up the killer, including me. It didn't feel like you were playing as her in the ptb anymore, more like a bootleg version of her in Scary Movie 3 or something.

So you use Dramaturgy, get exhausted, use Blood Rush, lose the exhaustion and become injured which activates Made For This, and then because you’re using Made For This you’re basically guaranteed to get fully healed and use Dramaturgy again.

One of the reasons that you didn't quite go over that I think it's not nearly as good as old dead hard is, like you mentioned, because it's used when healthy, but old dead hard could've had the killer dedicate 2 minutes to chase them, AND THEN they use dead hard to get to a safe space. This perk, if need be, is used in the first part of a chase, where the killer hasn't yet hit them or dedicated too much time to chasing them.

Even if it has a similar use to old DH, I don't think it will ever feel as bad to play against. DH sucked because you got rekt by it at what should've been the end of chase, if you get seriously outplayed by this when the survivor is at full health, you're probably near the start of the chase so there's no sunk cost fallacy in play. I would just ignore them like with a SB user if they make it to a strong tile.

@@dodang_9147 Maybe I'll be proven wrong with time, but from playing with it now I don't think it's all that bad. With this perk the survivors are forced to use it near the start of chase. Most first hits come easy, and if the first hit isn't going to come easy because the survivor is in a strong area, I wouldn't advise to take that chase anyway, dramaturgy or not. It's either a non factor, or a reality check to drop chase when you need to drop chase.

It's similar but lacks the frustration factor. I always said old dead hard felt bad because it took away a down, whereas SB or Dramaturgy weren't a hit to begin with. You can still hit them with range or a bad use as it's haste and not armour. Killers that can injure easily will also nullify it.

What some people don't realize is that the perk says that the same effect can't occur twice in a row, so you can use it when you're safe to get the exposed effect then that way when you need to use it while being chased you won't risk getting insta-downed.

The healthy requirement was definitely a smart move to both balance it and make it less frustrating. Dramaturgy is proactive, not reactive, and that is a good thing.

old DH was proactive, not reactive. Dramaturgy is same as DH. I disagree scott point in regard to short curved loop. old DH dash you in specific distance and did not allow you to change direction. Dramaturgy provides haste giving full direction control allow you to curve it on every loop. The perk is better in every way in terms of effect. The only downside is that it does not work when injured. You need to heal to use it unlike old DH which encouraged rushing gens when injured.

you can really control what happens with Dramaturgy because the second effect doesn't take place until after the initial speed boost, meaning if you use it right before you get hit you can completely ignore the exposed status effect. This is especially good if it's your third or fourth time using it during a match and you know you're probably about to get exposed

It's not the screaming that stops actions. Shock Therapy has a unique player effect that functions similarly to incapacitated. You can see it in the bottom right next to your perk diamond when you get hit by it. Static Blast does not apply this either.

Honestly the issue for me with old dead hard wasn't how good it was, it was how unsatisfying it felt to play against as killer. Having to constantly be waiting out dead hards just felt awful.. Dramaturgy doesn't seem to function like that so I'm personally not too concerned about it.

The thing I hate about this is the white ward being countered. Black Ward is never countered, yet Franklin's already forces me to drop my item I'm trying to protect which means the white ward does nothing. This isn't very important anymore with the changes to prestiging and items/addons, as well as cheaper web costs and higher BP gains, but old items like anniversary black and gold items are pretty and some people don't want to lose them.

Dramaturgy is like infinitely more balanced than old DH in my opinion since Dramaturgy not only gives you a warning that the person is about to go 10% faster than you, but also it’s just slower than a killer lunge so you can sneak that hit in. Even if they manipulate the chances so you don’t get exposed it’s still only a 33% chance they get the additional 2 seconds of speed at the start of a chase given you know how to chase them and they haven’t been running you long already. Speed on demand is powerful but it’s just a survivor with bloodlust 2 for a short window of time, it’s powerful at some loops but then again if a killer has bloodlust or preps a lunge (coup my beloved) your speed is essentially made useless and god help you if you got exposed from it. Now if it had given you 25% faster vault speed or pallet drop speed during it yeah that would be crazy but also we don’t live in that world so let’s be glad for it

Just that concept existing is unhealthy for the game no matter the context. The fact that its even comparable to old dead hard should be enough evidence of a deserved nerf. Old dead hard set an unhealthy precedent for exhaustion perks, it absolutely destroyed the balance of the game and was the most used perk during its prime even though sprint burst and balanced landing were also crazy poweful at the time. Theres absolutely no way dramaturgy stays the way it is when dead hard can only be used twice per trial and isnt even garaunteed value and it can be countered. Dramaturgy cant be countered and has infinitely more utility than dead hard they would be stupid to not nerf it. If they keep it the way it is playing killer is going to be even more miserable than it already is.

@@goagulant9503 I would argue dramaturgy does have counter play. I main killer and I just don’t see where the problem is. Dramaturgy is only usable when healthy and grants the survivor only a 10% faster speed than you for 2 seconds, after a .5 second warning that they are using it. Scott says the perk can get you about 10 meters but also the average killer movement speed is 4.6 meters per second. That’s 9.2 meters compared to their 10. Old DH gave you INSTANT distance which is what made it so powerful. Dramaturgy is helpful for closing the gap on short loops but again, you need distance on the killer and if the chase just started, which is when you’d USE dramaturgy, they can just leave chase. Plus it’s the only exhaustion perk with a built in chance of nearly instantly ending chase with exposed. It’s a good perk, but it has drawbacks built in. .5 seconds of (I think) slightly reduced speed and a telltale sign you’re using it, and over the course of 2 seconds you only gain .8 meters on a killer if you run in a straight line. Even if you get the additional 2 seconds that’s still only 1.6 meters. The killers that are slower usually have ranged abilities to compensate for it, so the 10% extra speed wouldn’t matter if a huntress or deathslinger can just snipe at you. Sprint burst, lithe, balanced are powerful because it’s a MASSIVE leap forward for movement speed, making you 35% faster than the average killer for 3 seconds. Dramaturgy most of the time is 10% faster for two seconds and over the course of those two seconds you gain only .8 meters. Old DH was 4 meters in less than a second, which is slightly less than how far the average killer travels IN a second. The idea that Dramaturgy is more powerful than old Dead Hard is ridiculous in my opinion, the candle it holds is that it fits into distance on DEMAND, it can let you greed maybe once, that is if you put the proper planning into it and accept the fact that you risk ending the chase almost instantly with the 12 seconds of exposed. I don’t mean to discredit you but I believe you’re wrong, I don’t think dramaturgy is the meta defining perk you imagine it being, it’s a silly perk with a silly purpose and only slight to moderate utility with its distance on demand. If it gave you even 2 meters of distance instantly then it would fall in the realm of balance breaking but I just don’t see where the problem is.

Where I'm coming from is more about the fact that it's instant value when you use it in almost every situation. Even if you use it reactively and end up getting hit you still get the speed boost with no downside which isnt as crazy as it can be but it's also value in a situation that i dont think is intended for. 0.5 seconds isn't that long of a reaction window either it might be enough for the killer to miss a lunge, kinda like how some players keep their sprint burst on cooldown shortly before its ready to use it mid chase to get the killer to miss cuz they dont expect them to speed up. Another thing I don't think is talked about enough is the item. It adds a more casual side of the perk which is a good thing admittedly but I think it's also going to add a bit too much value where it's otherwise not intended, especially since a bit of the killer experience is dependant on luck having the chance of someone reaching the hatch cuz they got the extra speed or even being able to open the hatch cuz they got lucky and got a key from it would be not desirable for some players. I want to elaborate a bit on the instant value thing as well. To put it into perspective, sprint burst is the most used and potentially best exhaustion perk right now but you don't see it every chase because it's not completely up to the survivor when it's used. They can walk everywhere and waste a bunch of time for a perk that won't gain you a ton of time when the chase begins or they can play normally with a chance that it won't be available when you need it. The fact that dramaturgy can easily be available in every single chase is what I think makes it deserving of a nerf. If everyone's running it there will be even less of a reason to abandon chase because they will be guaranteed to have it again when you come across them later. Dead hard has to potential to have this same issue but it doesn't because they restricted it to one use per unhook. Also I think you might be downplaying just how significant a 10% boost is. I'm sure if you've played this chapter you'd know that hope and made for this are used in conjunction with each other alot. They add up to a 10% speed boost and it is just unbeatable for any M1 killer. Any non movement killer will never catch a half decent survivor running those two perks. I had played a game once where I was spectating the last survivor after I had escaped he was being chased by nemesis. He pallet stunned him super far from the exit and he just ran in a straight line to the gate for over 15 seconds and the nemesis gained almost no ground on him it looked unfair. The 2 seconds of speed from dramaturgy obviously isn't much of a comparison but using that in a loop where survivor hitboxes are already smaller than killers is a recipe for an unbalanced mess. Like the guy said in shack it has the potential to be completely busted and I don't even want to imagine it because shack is extremely unfun already. TL:DR my problem with it is that it will be available every chase with unprecedented amounts of utility compared to other options. I think they should restrict it's amount of uses either per trial or per hook state. Maybe they can make it so it can only be used until every secondary effect has been gained but you can't get the same effect again after getting it once.

You can use dh in chase no matter if you are healthy or injured, 100% of the time of the game (and same for all other perks except for overcome, and we know how often people use this perk). Some people spend 80%-90% of their game injured. I'm not saying this perk is trash, but it's no way strong as you try to say. And all the things you say still apply, but forcing you to be healthy is the biggest downside which you didn't focus enough IMO

Killer comes closer - you start the chase, if you are not injured, you can feel safe because you have your perk as a second chance - lithe, DH, sprint, w/e. So this time you beat yourself why you didn't bring perk that works every time instead of something that has huge downside (my point).

I think the main reason that dead hard was so strong was that it was a reactive third health state. Things like Mettle of man, or anti-hemmoragic syringe, or Styptic agent, where all proactive health states. You had to work to get that third health state, or you had to pop the medkit, taking a gamble on wether or not the killer was gonna hit you in the next few seconds. But old dead hard, it was just "press it when you need an instant third health state", with no prior activaiton requirements

i don't think it's a 1-in-4 chance but 1-in-3 chance after the first usage. Perk says you can't get the same effect twice so by that logic once one of four effects are used, only 3 are left to pick from.

As an Ace main that loves chest opening builds, I feel really conflicted. Sure, I could dedicate a whole build to opening chests Or I could just run this perk, not be limited by the amounts of chests in the trial, and have a powerful chase ability on top of this, and have 3 more perk slots for other things On one hand, this is an item goblin's dream perk. On the other, it feels like it makes opening chests obsolete

IMO the biggest reason it's not obnoxious like old dead hard is only being able to use a perk while healthy is a lot more difficult than being able to use it while injured. You're basically always going to get injured. Against an instadown killer or perk you may have to go down first but after youre unhooked or someone picks you up you're now injured. You can't always be healthy except right at the start of the match. Whether you get tunneled, don't have a team mate/medkit/perk to heal you, or it's simply not a smart play to spend your time healing in whatever situation you're in there's going to be scenarios where you wish you were healthy to use the perk. That was very rarely the case with DH where you'd rather be injured than healthy. It's like overcome which only works when you go healthy > injured so it's just meh compared to sprint burst, lithe, or made for this

I honestly wouldn't even mind if it was as good as DH for Distance. For me personally, I had an issue that dead hard could be used as both a third health state or a chase extender tool. I always thought it would've been better to split the two usages of old Dead Hard into to different perks, and now it's kinda happening. Would be nice to finally see two exhaustion perks get used regularly instead of just 1.

Also thing is this perk can be used while healthy. Killer most likely didn't fully commit and can easily drop that chase. Dead Hard was used at point, where killer had to finish that chase, because there was time investment.

I have had so many people scream at me saying that the exposed part of the perk is bad and this perk will never be good but i always tell them that you want to use this when its necessary not whenever you feel like its somewhat good. its like sprint burst because of how you have to plan out when and how it will benefit you instead of just using it as soon as the killer sees you.

I’m just curious if the different alternatives have different % to happen or all equal. For example if exposed is 1-2% more likely to make it a high risk reward. Similar to a Hex totem it has massive downside but strong ability. Example: Rare item 20% Sprint burst 25% Exposed 30% Nothing 25% Or all equal.

The scream should just be baseline and what used to be the rng scream should be aura reading for 3-5 seconds. After that this perk would be more well rounded instead of basically only upsides

It definitely could be problematic. However it's one of those perks that definitely has to exist for a while to truly understand if it's busted or not. Personally I wouldn't mind if the unlucky side effects were slightly more severe. Anything other than hindered.

Can someone help me understand how it's maybe the best exhaustion perk? Lithe gives you a lot more speed and even current dead hard is a hit tank + speed boost at any time. This is just a 25% boost for 2 seconds most of the time which is a lot less than lithe

It's half as much as lithe/sb and it's on demand, any power on demand is immediately going to be a great power because it allows the player to use it as they want to with far more reactive elements then just running, which leaves you having to walk for most the game if you want to have sb on demand like that.

Other exhaustion perks are going to give more total distance, but they are limited in when they can be used. SB can't be controlled unless you waste time walking or have 99'd it. Lithe needs a nearby vault point et cetera. Dramaturgy only requires you to be healthy, if you are then you can use it at anytime. Even though it's effect is weaker this freedom of use can matter a lot. Just a simple example, Oni catches you in a bad spot with lethal pursuer 5 seconds into the game. He wants that first hit really badly for the blood, and you want to deny him that as long as possible. He might not even want to down you, just injure you and move on. SB will only help you if you walked to a gen, which he could see with lethal and predict, choosing to go after someone else instead. So you don't have SB and he knows it. The only vault point nearby requires you to run towards the Oni, which will give him a free hit that you don't want him to get, so you run the other way. You realize you won't make it to the nearest pallet before he hits you, so you use Dramaturgy, make it to the pallet and drop it denying him his first hit for the moment and allowing you to hopefully deny him his power for even longer. All the other exhaustion perks have a requirement or weakness to them that would make them fail in scenarios like this, giving the killer a free hit before escaping or a down if they can instadown. Dramaturgy can be used in situations where other perks can't, denying or delaying hits in places that would be unsafe. This ability to be used in a wide variety of situations at-will is quite strong.

Dramaturgy plus Made For This seems great, you get the free haste from Made for This while injured and still have an exhaustion perk that is triggered deliberately with no conditions. Lithe while great is hard to save while in a chase, Balanced Landing is very conditional, and Dead Hard has quite a few conditions. Dramaturgy is essentially an Ability Button mini Sprint Burst which compliments Made for This super well. Not to mention that Made for This only gives more reason to only use Dramaturgy while injured making the exposed "downside" even more irrelevant.

Also you cant get the same effect twice in a row. So it could be an idea to use the perk near the start of the game to try and get the exposed early so next time you use the perk you know you wont be getting that effect. As soon as I saw this perk I realized it would be very good though its a bit of a high skill perk so im sure im gonna find lithe more annoying that it in 95% of my games. Untill people start tier whoring and spamming it that is lol.

How does it give you 10 meters of distance? You move at 4m/s and you get +25% for 2 seconds. That's only 2 meters of distance.

But since it's in addition to your base speed you're only gaining 2 meters. If you didn't use the perk you would cross 8 meters in 2 seconds. If you use the perk you're moving at 125% speed which is 5 meters per second, so in 2 seconds you cross 10 meters. You've gained 2 meters of distance.

@@vexxed6851 draw it on paint. draw a circle on paint, then draw another circle 10 meters on the right. the perk allows you to move 10 meters in any direction. Now imagine pallet spawns. The pallet outside red circle are deadzones if killer goes next to you. if you use this perk, you can make to other red circle and if pallet spawn is there. you are going from deadzone into safe pallet loop.

I think the DH-for-distance is a better comparison because Sprint burst you can almost never use mid-chase, and you usually use it to run far away to safety. Whereas this perk you would almost always use mid-chase, to get to a window or pallet that normally you wouldn’t make it to, like old DH.

The perk seems a bit problematic, but I doubt it’s going to be a real problem. The reason why old dh was a problem is because it was so brain dead that any shitty survivor could use it to patch up any mistake they could make. This perk (while not that hard to use) actually requires some brain power. Not only that but Currently it sits in this awkward middle spot where it isn’t nearly as good as sprint burst, but not nearly as bad as some of the worst survivor perks. It’s in a GOOD spot is what I’m saying.

Guy... Don't use plot twist at pallet unless ur bringing flip flop n power struggle. Using it right after the gen was done was bad too. The killer noticed u drop to the ground right after the gen popped so he assumed u were at the gen. Whether he had deerstalker or not it was so obvious u laid next to the gen.

The reason it's compared to dead hard instead of sprint burst is because dead hard and dramaturgy are on demand with little other restriction. Sprint burst is limited to the start of the chase or if you have it 99'd, which are a lot more restrictive.

It’s interesting. It may very well be the best exhaustion perk, but it also has anti-synergy with Made for This, so it’s actually quite balanced. You either plan on staying healthy with Dramaturgy or plan on being injured with Made for This Resilience ect.
