This interview with Nick was after my documentary was already finished. It was for a prologue to show my film again on ARTE. Nick talks about Murder Ballads, The Boatmans Call and being happy. Susie was already in his life.

Despite the apparent aura of "arrogance" that some people think to perceive in Nick Cave, this interview shows he is deeply humble. I mean, the girl who interviews him asks him to take his glasses off, she lectures him about love, physicality and spirituality, she tells him that he is never happy with himself as a person, etc etc... and, despite he is totally pissed off and with a big hangover, he takes all of that "softly" and builds very significant and honest answers. You can even tell how deeply painful for him is when she says that his lyrics and songs have nothing to do with his life, and he goes back to that theme many times explaining in a very nice and deep way how deeply his songs are related to his own life and being. Any other rock star or great musician would have stopped the interview and just leave since the first second. So, I guess they two are friends.

I'm on board with Nick here. The artist interview is not unlike a sporting interview where both parties tend to speak in clichés. I don't know Nick, but I don't think he is shy, I think he is an introvert. Introverts can be extroverted in the pursuit of something meaningful, like self-expression. The layperson may be curious about an artist's creative pursuits however, it is often routine and mundane.
