Hi Nick, Just watched this one again and really enjoyed it again. I wanted to put in another word about Thomas Condon. He was a lot like you, in that he gave talks about geology wherever he lived to anyone who wanted to listen. People loved him, even in a wild and rowdy place like The Dalles. It would be so great for us Oregonians if you could find time for a show about him. I bet lots of us Zentnerds would love it.💕

I loved this particular video. I love the history of early pioneers in the west. I also love what you were doing during the pandemic. Keeping education and intellectual energy alive during a time when everything was shut down.

I knew people like Russell when I was a kid. They came from a time when erudition and honor were valued personal traits simply because it was the right way to live one's life. Also I love to watch you get all excited about things. I used to be like that.

*COMMENTARY:* 1. Israel C. Russell writes like he's the John Muir of Mt. RainIer. 2. Zentner family photographs suggest they are the Ansel Adams of Mt. Stuart. 3. Nick's 13-week anniversary of this live stream project is this Sunday's paleomagnetism broadcast. Therefore we should award him a post-doctorate degree in *letting the facts show you the science.*

How might Geology Departments look today if Russell had remained the model for new faculty hires? Diligent, tough, artistic, selfless, observant. His work holds up well more than 125 years later.

Evelyn - Much of Alaska even today remains wild. Go as soon as you can. Whether you stay in AK or not, the gained perspective of simply being there will change you and, if a career in geology is your future, improve your work.

Russell's book North America is available on Project Gutenberg in several e-book formats: HTML, e-pub, and Kindle. Here's a link to the HTML version: www.gutenberg.org/files/36024/36024-h/36024-h.htm. Enjoy.

Nick, you wondered why Russell left the USGS in 1892, but I think that bad trip in Alaska may well have decided him to leave.

I was wondering if, since it's summer now, and graduation has occurred, you, Nick were going to continue on this live venue. Maybe this is summer school? I know everyone appreciates these lectures, as do I.

I'll be shocked if Nick doesn't weigh 10 lbs more this week than he did a month ago, as many parcels of baked goodies that he regularly receives!
