"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on KZbin. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on KZbin, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode. “That Raytheon decided they don’t hate gays or trans people - frankly, I don’t really give a shit what their take on that is..."

It doesn't even do what the people who are for it want it to do. It doesn't stop crime, doesn't lessen crime, it fails as a fear deterrent because the USA's only had MORE crime going on in the States where it was legal historically. Crime by and large is an act of desperation and survival already. Most criminals are already risking their lives in some format to make ends meet. "Threatening them with death" isn't a deterrent when they're already Knowingly risking death or life incarceration anyway. If anything they're probably surprised on some level they survived long enough to even see a courtroom to begin with. We want crime lessened, not just catering to revenge. These idiots wouldn't survive in a real dictatorship. These right wing facsist Nazis would have been laughed at by the SS troops. The Germans were the master race guys who were strong worked out. Still Germans I know are strong but have the best hearts. Really great people or the ones I meet abroad. My German friends sometimes look big and intimidating but there like teddy bears. Out to protect the weak. I lived in Thailand during the big coup and civil war. We had a curfew couldn't go down town. I remember sitting in a bar near my school and watching the fighting on TV it was surreal. Thais are very polite people soft spoken as well. Most Asians are. Its sad to see what is happening in Myanmar many of my old friends have fled the country or are hiding. There is a curfew there as well. Lived in China before the Olympics glad I moved. Now I live in Vietnam which is great more free than before and still cheap to live in as well.

You might be surprised to learn that we'd rather deal with decades straight of MAGA candidates than losing our voting power. The kind of logic you have and assume everyone else therfore has is so shortsighted and selfish that it's not even a hard decision. Once you lose that power as citizens then it's over. The country is over and gone. Just because someone you agree with takes control, that doesn't mean they will stay that way once they no longer need your vote. In fact it's smarter to assume they wouldn't stay the same. Even if they did they will only be there for so long no matter how long that is. Only a very ignorant and weak souled person would wish for our voting power to be taken away. I cant speak for everyone else but part of appreciating democracy means understanding why being able to force all of your views and opinions on everyone else is not a sane or moral goal. It's fucking sad how many on both sides seem to not understanding this.
@emanlive7832
@emanlive7832 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the passionate response, you're missing the point. You seem to be moralizing which is essentially a dead end and really doesn’t do much. You’re mistaken to think that, necessarily Democracy = good and necessarily Dictator/Dictatorial power = equal bad. The question is democracy for what ends? or dictator for what ends and limits? For example most are okay with Lincoln being a dictator if the end was to end slavery and preserving the union. If you’re saying permanent and absolute dictatorship, Of course, but permanent is not a necessary attribute of dictator/dictatorship. America permits and has permitted dictatorial powers to Presidents in the past and that's worth discussing. Also it helps not to turn everything into moral signalling, you may be a good person. but truthfully I wouldn't know and honestly not relevant. It really gets in the way of more interesting discussions that could be had.

In Nick debates with Destiny, Steven pointed out how Nick utilizing gish galloping tactics in order to overwhelm the opponent without putting up any sound argument, but a person like Steven aka Destiny sees through his tactics while breaking them down in such precision. Another thing is that Nick is the classic example of a pseudo intellectual who sniffs his own farts. The example of this is when Nick Fuentes is trying to prove race realism ( aka the theory of the causation between race and IQ is genetic ), but Nick never listed specific chromosomes / gene variants nor has he ever pulled up scientific peer reviewed studies conducted by neuroscientists or evolutionary biologists on that subject. So instead people like Nick Fuentes try to do what would be basically the god of the gaps argument for race realism which is saying things like " since we can know the difference between skin color, we could definitely know the difference between IQ " or something along those lines. For people like Nick don't know is that there is chromosomes / genes that can defy skin color like carotenoids, hemoglobin, melanin, and oxyhemoglobin. Those are the specific genes / chromosomes I can name from the top of my head when it comes to this type of things.

@@25taylorkw you cant rely on “peer reviewed studies” for everything. These studies need funding, and they need to be validated by peers which means they’re subject to ideological leanings. I went to college and used to believe that way as well but then realized thats really not how the world works. I think its pretty obvious there are differences between races and these things cant be explained away with income inequality, slavery, etc. Not to mention that mass immigration is completely destroying this nation and only benefits the wealthy.
@25taylorkw
@25taylorkw Жыл бұрын
@@soccerislife6108 When I talk about peer reviewed studies I'm referring to studies that are backed by hard science and not just by coincidental correlations. Hard science is basically STEM research ( that's been done by neuroscientists and evolutionary biologists on this particular subject ) and not something like gender studies just in case if you're asking that question. Another thing is I can care less about any comparison argument for race realism. This is regardless that may be the height comparison argument, the twin comparison argument, or the skin color comparison argument because none of those comparison arguments tell me anything about the factual hard science that causes the difference of race and IQ ( aka naming the specific chromosomes / gene variants that caused this to be a fact ). By the way certain countries like Latin American countries and African countries where the citizens in that country is have lower IQ on average is usually due to the government in those countries are being either run by criminal organizations or dictatorships that prevent the people in that country from living a great life ( specifically having a good funding infrastructure for the people, having a good quality education, and etc of other things that the people in those countries could experience if it wasn't for shady governments in those countries. ) Also in the terms of mass immigration that benefit rich people, you're referring to Illegal immigration in which illegal immigrants are not required to pay taxes so they can manage to be underpaid while still be able to live on their own in the US. If those specific immigrants were legal citizens that required to pay taxes, then they would need to get a job that has a livable pay and even much better pay in order for them to live on their own in the US.

Exactly. They all live in countries like America, Britain, Ireland, France, etc. They have never lived without their civil liberties, which is why they're so willing to dispose of them. Religion is mocked, homosexuality jammed down our threat, can't pray in schools. No trial, biased court/jury, no $$$ no justice. No regional self-determination, forced to take immigrants/refugees otherwise labelled bigot and lose job. Reasonable punishments... tweet or going to a rally sent to prison. At the point we already have a dictatorship, just not one that works in our interest.

@@elijahfreeman5299 The reason why the Scandinavian countries manage to be such pleasant social democracies and a model for the American left is precisely because of it's demographic. In order to be a functioning social democracy, the citizenry of a country needs to be made up of decent, honest, empathic, moral, educated, intelligent, hard-working and civic-minded people. I.e. conservative White people. They also need to be closely related by blood, in order to feel a sense of kinship with each others. It just wouldn't be possible to apply Denmark's social model to such a mongrelized and immoral country like the USA. The left, which dreams of social democracy, is therefore it's own worse enemy by being the biggest promoter of racial "diversity". It's quite ironic, isn't it?

On the walk up to the Hollywood Bowl I saw a church, and looking up at the hill I saw the Hollywood sign; as I continued to walk the Hollywood sign disappeared and I saw a cross on that hill and that cross was visible from my seat at the concert.

Fascism comes from Anarcho-Syndicalism, Mussolini said this himself.
