I love Nick's sense of humour and also his love of country music.

Nick Lowe is a rare gift to music. His ability to stretch phrases and let them linger is more or less unmatched. I bow down in reverance.

Nick Lowe's voice has mellowed over the years. I don't usually like male singers but Nick's voice in melodious.

All these great songs and yet he remains virtually unknown to the general public in his native country.

I often forget what a good looking guy Basher is. Many of my lady friends - especially after watching this video - have commented on his looks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGHPZISNir2JntE As for that voice, it surpasses beauty. When I listened to the album ‘Dig My Mood’ you experienced a sublime troubled voice, hard earned, like this song is.

@@zacetto In my eyes, he can do little wrong. I think my favourite track is ROSE OF ENGLAND. The whole of that album does it for me.

@@jacquismith3277 Thanks for the recommendation. I feel no one does middle aged angst and despair like Basher. If I had ‘The Convincer’ on vinyl, it would have been now worn out!

A great songwriter and performer. I remember the day Nick bought that lovely dark rosewood Gibson J45 with a natural top, which were hard to get in the UK at that time. (The standard Gibson J45 has mahogany back and sides with a sunburst top.) A shop in London managed to import just two of them: on the same day, Nick bought that one and I bought the other.

@@robvanhouten In Kris Kristofferson’s brilliant ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’ there is a line, “…. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt….’ kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYGqpoh-g7lqi5Y Nick Lowe (also affectionately referred to as ‘Basher’) seems to pay homage to this with his line, “….I go to the bin, I throw the laundry in and pick out the cleanest shirt….” In many ways, with the similar underlying apathy and palpable tinge of middle aged regret, I feel this is the UK’s answer to Kris Kristofferson’s beautiful lament.

With a growing sense of dread And a hammer in my head Fully clothed upon the bed I wake up to the world That lately I've been living in There's a cut upon my brow Must have banged myself somehow But I can't remember now And the front door's open wide Lately I've let things slide I go to the bin I throw the laundry in And pick out the cleanest shirt Then I tell myself again I don't really hurt Smoking I once quit Now I got one lit I just fell back into it Along with my pride Lately I've let things slide I go to the bin I throw the laundry in Dig out the cleanest shirt When all at once I'm seized again By exquisite hurt That untouched take-away I brought home the other day Has quite a lot to say, the evidence is clear Only resign piled high and wide About how lately I've let things slide I'm just about holding on But lately I've let things slide

Such big hands to make up different and more interesting sounding chords up the neck. He makes it look so easy but the skill involved to mute three strings and use the thumb to pick out bass runs is not something you see an awful lot
