It was the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara in the Summer of 2001. Beautiful old theatre, small audience, just Nick and his guitar, sitting on a barstool. His son Roy wasn't even a gleam in his eye yet!

Love it. I was at Woodbridge School with Nick back in the '60s. At the time Nick played bass in the School Group along with Brinsley Schwarz and Barry Landemann (went on to play on the No 1 hit "Hitchin' a Ride by Vanity Fair"). They were the inspiration for me taking up the guitar in December '63 - a hobby which has stayed with me to the present day. Thanks Nick. Still looking and sounding great.

Nick Lowe is one of the classiest rock stars around (or as he modestly describes himself, someone who "had a brief career as a pop star.") Instead of trying to maintain a youthful appearance, he has aged gracefully, and instead of continuing to play at ear-splitting volume and breakneck speed (as in, forever "Heart of the City"), he now turns out songs that are quiet, understated melodic and lyrical treasures. A true master.
