Nick of Time Fabric | Birthday

I treated myself to some fabric during the Nick of Time August Sale and wanted to share what I got. We are long overdue for a catch-up, and I hope to chat with you soon!

I haven't sewn with denim, but I've always heard that putting a can of Coke in when you launder it, softens it. You might want to research this. Love the fabric your husband bought you. How sweet was that. Look forward to seeing those fabrics made up. Happy sewing.

That fabric your husband got is beautiful. How smart of him to call you so you could pick! Nice fabric haul! I had ordered from nick of time a while back with mixed results, but one thing I really enjoy was their knit interfacing. I got a couple of yards and still have a ton left. Works amazing stabilizing hems and seams, very light weight. I have used it for woven fabrics too, when you want to reinforce something without affecting drape. So tempting to go over their site and order again, but I must stay disciplined! Still working through my stash...

How lovely to see you ! What a sweetie your husband is for fabric shopping with you. That viscose is beautiful and goes so well with your collection! I think your denim will soften lots when washed ! Have you done the colour up on the tiger shirt/shirt dress to see if that changes how the shoulders fit? Look forward to seeing what you make!

Great to see you back Fatmata and Happy Birthday!! Those fabrics are a great price, you did well. I don't know much about denim but a viewer recommended washing it twice before you sew with it. Even if your shirt shoulder has gone south a dropped shoulder looks great, love that shirt 😊

Hi Sharon!! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes, I’m grateful for the time with my family. I was pleased with my selection, and have been trying to stay away from their site now that I’ve discovered them, such great selection and some cool new in items to browse. I’ve been in a sewing funk this summer, but kind of looking forward to fall sewing, so I hope I can make more time for sewing even though I’m back to work. Looking forward to working with that viscose hubby brought back!

I saw, but didn't take advantage of the $5.99 sale because I had lots of fabric in my stash. I purchased the Ivory | Rib Reversible during a previous sale and it is lovely fabric. I plan to make a reversible jacket for an upcoming trip to Amsterdam. Also bought the natural colored, High Stretch Denim 9 Oz., I prefer a little stretch in my denim and this weight is perfect for jeans.

Listen, I’m smitten with that viscose! Isn’t it darling?! I’m hoping I can make that orange work, I was so sure of it at the time of ordering, and when it arrived, I had a what exactly were you thinking moment when I realized the fabrics that have the pops of bright orange are my summer fabrics, so I have to keep that in mind for styling and pattern options

I love all your new fabrics! You look fantastic in the bright colors. What a kind husband you have. Regarding softening you thick denim, I have heard adding a whole can of coke to the wash, helps with that. Looking forward to your makes.

Thank you so much for that recommendation, Brenda! Now that you mention it, I feel like I’ve heard Whitney from @TomkatStitchery mention that before too, I’ll definitely have to try it. I’m nervous about staining the fabric since it’s a natural color, but I’ll try a swatch and see if it washed out well. I’m hoping the bright orange isn’t too much, or that I find a pattern that will make sense for it.
