Show-runners were purposefully vague as to what being a grimm means outside of the "the sight" but yup seeing a wesen in "semi-woge" state doesn't mean much if the wesen can just beat the grimm down.

Get hit with a dose of supernatural fear when you are already primed to think of them as a deadly predator? Yikes, that alone would put you on the back foot. Yea, that was never really addressed in the show. Some injuries transferred to both forms but others were only in one form.
