Nick's Tactical owner as well, security guard so I'm standing around and walking a lot and the most expensive, heaviest and best boots I've ever owned. I was able to get mine with a composite toe and have the padded collar and Ironlaces as well. Glad to know that the finish on the hardware wearing off isn't unique to mine. Will keep an eye out on the heel wear, good to see how these hold up under rougher treatment.

I was waiting for anyone to do a wear update for months and months and I finally stopped looking. Stumbled upon yours today and it's still one of the only ones! Thank you!

Ok... i was thinking about the Thursday Explorer but now i want these. They look beautiful.

The Thursday boots are good, but they're not on the same level as Nick's when it comes to build quality

@@EvanK2EJT Yes, but they're more than half the price. I think I'll go with the Thursdays. I'm not on the 500-600 dollar boot level yet lol.

Thanks for the follow up, bud! Those boots look amazing for 1 year worth of every day wear. Not sure what type of weather you get, but how hot do your feet get in them? How do you like the leather padded collar? Trying to decide between fabric and leather collar. Also, how water resistant has it been for you? I have triple wide feet, so it's almost impossible for me to find footwear. Finally accepting the fact that I'll have to go custom.

I get all sorts of weather from -10°F and snow to 100°F and high humidity. My feet definitely sweat in them in hot weather since the leather is so thick, but it hasn't really been an issue. The leather padded collar is great. Very comfortable and shows literally zero wear. The boots are definitely worth the money. Thanks for watching!

they look very much like the Belgian army boots, they are indestructible and yes, mine are 25 years old and still perfect

Do these boots add 6db? For 1 year, these boots look almost new.

LOL yes, they add an easy 6db. The boots do look like new..... And I beat the crap out of them, so that tells you how good they are

Hey Evan, what're the particular draws of having a shorter (5" / 6") boot for hiking? I have never worn a boot larger than 6" and I am currently debating whether or not to pull the trigger on the 8". Use cases would be similar to yours it seems, looking for a good quality beater at the end of the day. located in north east and potential first time Nicks buyer. Thanks in advance, and I appreciate the hard work!

I personally prefer 6", and if I bought these again, that's what I'd go with. I just personally find shorter boots more comfortable (I just recently bought a pair of 6" Gamebreakers in brown waxed flesh which are AWESOME). The taller boot gives you a little more ankle support and lower leg protection from things like thorns though. Can't go wrong either way. Buy what you find is most comfortable.

The soles are stitched down really good. Will they still be able to be resoled? I’m not a fan of the wedge

Yep, they can be resoled and rebuilt.

Hi Evan thank you for the great videos on these boots. How would you rate the waterproofness of these boots and how they handle heavy mud? I'm looking for a pair of boots where I will be slogging around fields all day in all weathrrs and I'm fed up with gore tex boots!! Any help would be appreciated :)
@EvanK2EJT
@EvanK2EJT 4 ай бұрын
They're quite water resistant, but not completely waterproof for obvious reasons. The leather is very thick, and silicone treated. The upper is double row stitched down, so while not completely watertight, it's pretty darn close. I've never gotten water inside the boots, but I don't walk around in water all day. In muddy wet conditions they're great. I have had zero issues.

How heavy are these compared to a regular hiking boot? How heavy are they compared to your other nicks?
@EvanK2EJT
@EvanK2EJT 6 ай бұрын
They're definitely MUCH heavier than regular hiking boots. These are made of very thick leather. They're lighter than my other Nicks boots due to the sole construction.

Oh, trust me, they get BEAT UP! They're on my feet as I type this, and they're a mess. They are just super tough, so they don't look beat up when you clean and oil them.

My kilties used to slide down, not terribly but a little. Now, for some reason, they just don't. None of them. At all. Not sure if I'm doing something different or if it's because they have deep ridges because they're broken in. I don't do special lacing, I don't do lace loops. They just don't sag anymore.
