This review reminds me of how I feel about my Mizuno baseball gloves. The quality of the leather and craftsmanship is just next level. Even a brand new not yet broken in glove just feels right on the hand. Once it’s broken in, it becomes part of my body and I almost forget it’s there. Like a comfy “slipper”on my hand. Just ordered my first pair of Nicks, DomePro - Wickett & Craig English Bridle Veg Tan 8”. It’s only been 3 days and I’m already dying of anticipation!

I love my Nick's boots. My Urban Drifters were absolute murder to break in, but once they broke in they were incredible. Honestly though, my Nick's Tactical boots are more comfortable. They were comfortable day one, and they've just gotten more comfortable as I've worn them over the past seven months or so. Either way, you absolutely can't go wrong with Nick's

A word of caution. You will want to be careful applying your conditioner to the leather around the eyelets and the heel stack and sole. The leather around the eyelets can become too soft and tear the eyelets out. The heel stack and sole have glues that may react poorly to the oils in the conditioner, resulting in them unbonding.

When I ordered my BPs I used the sizing chart with the largest wool sock I have, the Darn Tough full cushion tactical. By doing that my boots aren't too tight in winter and slightly roomy in the summer depending on what socks I wear. I also ordered the lowest heel stack since I'm mostly walking i them and not on any pegs. Obenauf's oil has kept them soft and water resistant. About every 4 months I wash them with saddle soap. The only complaint I have is that the stitching through the sole can wick up water when it's raining.

As a fellow Canadian, high end boot connoisseur, and construction worker, all job sites in Canada require CSA approved safety boots which means no nicks, no whites, no JK's ect. the only options I know of for this quality and CSA approved would be Viberg boots or wohlford boots (formerly Dayton boots). I wish I could wear my JK's on the jobsite.
@TrustinTimber
@TrustinTimber Жыл бұрын
Nicks was looking into CSA last I spoke to them about it but I hear yeah. I do spend a bit of time on jobsites that require it and still wear them. Only once was I called out. A foreman asked me on my first day on the site if they were CSA and I said yes. That was the end of that:) Got my blood pumping a bit though. lol.

I bought a pair of Roberts with the 55 last. After a couple of days they were the best fitting boots I ever owned. Still are. I bought a pair of Overlanders in the same size. I asked customer service if they would break in like the Roberts. They said yes you’re good to go. I wore them to work every day for 3 months. I suffered trying to break them in. Had them stretched professionally twice but we’re still painful. Talked with customer service and sent them pictures. They didn’t want to help me. Their response was “better luck next time “. They lost a customer. If they took care of me I would still be a customer. I have turned my boot buying to Franks. More than happy with their service and their boots.

Nick’s overlanders’s are my favorite, I’ve had some builder pros and a pair of moc toes with the wedge, I typically got the brown 1964 leather, which breaks in a bit easier. This time I bought the blackout overlander and after about 5 days of constant wear, they’re great! I haven’t experienced the later issue with my other boots so I’ll see how that turns out with pronation and what not. Great video and very informative.

I am considering these boots. I wear a 13EE sneaker as well as your mass produced work boot. My Red Wing Iron Ranger is a 12 D and fits great on my left foot, but is still pretty snug on the right. According to the Nicks chart it says I should be an 11.5 EE. I’m worried that will be too small. Like you I am in Canada so would like to hit it right the first time. Thanks for the input.

Thank you so much for your perspective, i think i am at the same point of break in with my Builder Pro's. Overall very comfortable, but i fell like my feet want to hug to the side of the boot where my big toe is. Great that it worked out for you and i hope mine will get better in a couple weeks of wearing them. As for break in, the best thing about it, it seems not to stop ever. My 3 year old Redwing IR seem to get more comfortable every time i step in. May it's just perception but i would bet they are more comfortable than a year ago. And don't get me wrong, these have been comfortable from about week 2 on and just keep getting better and better.

My Overlanders arrived 9 months ago. Took them straight to the Ozarks for a week of bow-hunting. I was walking around without discomfort after about an hour. Throughout the week they got better and better (accidentally left them in the rain one night, but they seemed fine the next day - just wet). I was on Nick’s website thinking of ordering a second pair, but saw they had a pair of Builder Pros in my size ready to ship (wait six months for another pair of Overlanders or take my chances with the Builder Pros?). Bought the BPs - they arrived in a week. Different animal regarding break-in - believe the hype. I’ve had them for about a month and am still not quite there, but much like the OLs, they’re only getting better. I’ll never go back to synthetic fiber when it comes to boots.

I have owned more than a few pairs of Nicks Boots. I found their chromexcel boots in different models to be very comfortable. Only negatives for me and not a reflection of the boots was a couple of ready to ship urban loggers in their heavier work leather. Could just not wear them due to the weight in combination with the thicker leather. Just too much boot for my casual wear lifestyle. I do have a pair of urban loggers in chromexcel that broke in fine. Other than those 2 pairs, the rest have been fairly easy to break in and are comfortable. I actually like the Whites boots better, but that is just a personal preference.

I have a pair of JK Superduty boots. Same deal I was starting to think I made a bad investment and forced myself to wear them no matter how uncomfortable they were because they were so expensive I forced myself to like them. Its only been 3 weeks and i havent worn my regular shoes since. Im barely sctratching the surface of how capable they are. I work on concrete floors 8-12 hours 5-6 days a week in a kitchen. They're more boot than I'll ever need in my line of work. I've just always wanted a pair of high quality PNW boots. Its not just a long term investment on your wallet but also your joints and skeletal structure. At the end of the day my back and knees aren't killing me. Even after my shift the boots want to keep working. I'm never going back to anything mass produced. If you're doing homework on a good pair of boots like Nicks, Whites, JK etc take the plunge. You won't regret it.

Their customer service has gone downhill - MAJORLY! They've gotten too big for their britches. I wanted custom work done on my smoke jumpers when I got them resoled. I wanted a patch on the upper where I was wearing a hole in the leather by leaning it against a gizzmo in my work truck. The guy just looked at me and said "Yeah, we wont do that". I asked why and he just gave me some canned answer to dismiss the issue. I said I bet if I was bucking Billy Ray you'd do it for me. He said, "Yeah, probably"! It took 5 weeks for a resole, VERY unreasonable! With that experience I'm torn on them as a company because they are the best boots and very comfortable!

Smoke jumpers are even a nicks boot. They are from whites. That’s probably why they couldn’t do the custom work and took that long.

All the PNW companies are having issues. I guess they're too popular for their own good. At least Nick's build times are "only" 6 months. Some are over a year. I don't need them, but I want to try the Munson last troopers. Todays Corcorans are not like the ones I had in the 70's (they were probably ten years old "new" when I got them, thanks Dad...).

If you look at their time leads they’re just getting swamped. I think they’re finally getting around to the custom stuff ordered in December. I’d imagine the same thing goes with Whites, JK Boots, Wesco, etc. there’s a major market demographic who are just DONE with cheap synthetic boots. KZbin basically provided a 2 gallon adrenaline shot to this industry.

@@Spartices to many excuses for these companies. When your charging as much as they do it's unacceptable.

@@adamsmiths3016 It’s a fairly small business firm. I can’t find any numbers but seems to be currently maybe between 150 and 100. I think in some interview with Grant (their main spokesperson) it used to be like 35 or something only a few years back. Right now they’re just having too much demand for their supply. By comparing my order number from Feb to another in May they’ve had an additional 13,000 orders. You simply can’t expect it to operate on the same scale as Ford or Costco. (Or treat you like garbage like a cable provider.) They’ll get bigger, but it’s very intensive to train people for this kind of product. (Also, I found their customer service excellent. I asked if they could change my order from a FF wide boot to a FFF size and it wasn’t a problem.)

I was thinking about Nicks boots for a while but now I’m convinced that I won’t buy them. They are so expensive and,breaking in half? I was not expecting that. For all of you who have these- my best wishes and happy days. Over 😂😂

@TrustinTimber took my Nicks about 15 mo to be fully broke in. They're dead comfortable now. Best advice i can give is buy "iron laces" for them. They don't stretch and don't wear I'm 2 yrs in and laces are soft but show no wear.

Tried that.. three pair actually custom pair,Perry’s, and there water proof boot.. all gave my feet horrible blisters a corn I had to have removed and pain on bottom of feet. Whites are horrible fucking boots.! Never had a problem at ALL with any nicks I’ve bought.
