I'm not an Alabama fan and never will be. But anyone, and I mean ANYONE who doesn't respect Nick Saban and recognize him as one of the greatest football minds to ever coach, is not a true football fan. Saban is a mastermind, who's greatest skill may be how he alters the mindset of every player, causing self motivation, discipline and excellence on the field. He says "We don't keep practicing until we get it right, we keep practicing until we can't get it wrong" (paraphrasing). He's very unique and an amazing cultivator of young men.

Much respect and appreciation for your thoughtful comment. I've been an Alabama fan all of my life. There was some very difficult times at Bama and I didn't know if we would ever get out of those dark years, especially after the Mike Price thing. As Bama fans we are truly blessed and to be honest we dont know how good we have it. The fans that expect a national championship every year tick me off. Their unreasonable expectations are purely ridiculous, I wish they would take in each moment presently and realize how good we got it. I'll never take Nick Saban for granted, Never! One day we will look back and be in awe of the accomplishments we've had over the year and realize just how great of a coach, person, and leader Nick Saban is. I am in awe despite the irrational Bama fans. Anyway I appreciate your appreciation. I hope you are doing well and God bless you and Roll tide!!! Lol

People talk about Saban like he's an asshole when those moments percolate inside his mind and then he releases that frustration of wanting his players to keep from making mistakes. It's not like he's getting pissed about something that makes no sense, I mean he's getting pissed because these players practice these situations all year long, and to me, it's the equivalent of having your son or daughter not knowing how to tie their shoes when they're 15 years old, and they keep stepping on the strings and falling on their faces when they shouldn't be lol. (Wouldn't get as angry at a 15 year old like he does a 21 year old though) And you're exactly right about how Saban affects the mental side of these players. I remember Saban talking about when he was at Michigan St, and he wanted to understand the psychological part of the players mind. I don't recall the professor's name that he learned from. But I believe he kept in touch with that guy, even when he was at LSU, The Dolphins, and even here with Alabama. And I respect your firm stance on never being and Alabama fan, and I respect you even more that you appreciate and give Saban credit for the amazing coach that he is. This is Alabama! It's a freaking extremely difficult task to try and get these "Bear Bryant for lifers" to ever agree that Saban has out coached the Bear. And that he definitely has!

Yes - and he definitely rode with Jalen Hurts through everything - Nick got soo tired of hearing the questions about when is Tua going to play - I am a big Jalen Hurts fan but I knew Tua should have been the starter in 2017 - the respect Saban showed Jalen is probably the reason Jalen came back to Bama in 2018 instead of leaving as soon as Tua threw that TD against Georgia in the National Championship Game - Jalen should have been transferring as soon as that game was over, but he stuck it out and basically waisted a season in 2018 - but things happen for a reason, because Bama doesn't beat Georgia in 2018 if Jalen is not there - Salute to Saban, Jalen, and Tua how they handle the situation in 2017 and 2018 - all 3 of them handled themselves like True Professionals

It just goes to show that even the greatest human beings in their field of endeavor have their flaws. You praise in public, and admonish in private- and you don't lose control of yourself on national TV. That said, Nick Saban is the greatest coach in football history, period.
@chriswebster244 жыл бұрын
I get what you’re saying and I agree to an extent, but I don’t think he ever actually loses control of himself whenever he seems to be flipping out on the sidelines. I believe it’s mostly all calculated, just like pretty much everything he ever says or does that his team or potential recruits may see. I know that may seem like a crazy thing to say, because losing your temper isn’t something that people generally do on purpose, but I’d bet anything on that being the case. The main reason I think that is because you never see him “lose his cool” like that in crucial moments when the game is on the line. It’s pretty much always when his team is up big, and the game is basically already over, when people are more likely to get lazy and not pay as much attention to detail, that he goes absolutely berserk like that on the sidelines. I’m sure most fans have noticed that in tense situations, when people have a tendency to panic and make mistakes, and when enthusiasm isn’t an issue, because everyone is fired up and full of adrenaline, he seems to always stay cool, calm, and collected. For someone to be better at what he does than anyone else who’s ever done it, he has to be great at every little aspect of it. Coach Saban not only knows how to get the best players, and how to make them great, but he also understands the psychology of what it takes to get the very best out of the great players he has. Almost everything he says and does is calculated. Even a lot of what he says at his press conferences is to send a message to his team. It’s all a part of the process, because that’s what it takes to be a champion. He knows this better than anyone else, of course, and that’s why he’s the GOAT 🐐
@manilajohn01824 жыл бұрын
@@chriswebster24 It's possible that his outbursts are calculated. Frankly, I doubt it, because I've seen him go beet red at times. But, it remains possible. However, even if it is calculated, you don't put people on the spot on national TV. The "praise in public, admonish in private" is a very old axiom which has stood the test of time. That said- even if his outbursts are NOT calculated; even if he does lose control of himself, it only further demonstrates the truth that all human beings are flawed somehow- and that, despite that flaw, Nick Saban remains the gold standard by which all other football coaches are judged. Calculated outbursts or not, he's likely to remain that standard for many years to come.

Yeah, like Vince Lombardi said many, many years ago:"It's not practice makes perfect, IT'S PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!" And you practice it until you can't get it wrong. However, there is always a defense trying to blow it up.

I really must say "I miss Coach Saban already". I'd noticed he didn't have the drive, the passion & the ANGER on the sideline that pushed the Alabama football teams to be their best on every play. It seemed like the team was constantly screwing up and he lacked the passion & drive to Coach them into NOT screwing up. And so arguably, One of the best coaches to ever coach college football retires at age 72. Although he pressured all other teams to become better by coaching his teams & coaches to be the best. I sincerely believe Nick Saban greatly improved college football dramatically BUT that with the SEC bringing Texas & Oklahoma into the conference & dissolving the previous East/West divisions in the process AND with all the NIL deals going on & the playoffs going to a larger 12 team playoff & the way players are getting switched all around with the transfer portal that Saban just ultimately got tired of the constant aggravation of change in college football. He's probably hired & lost more coordinators to head coaching positions than any other coach in history. Like a coaching rehab for Head Coaches that had been fired too. Kiffin and Sarkisian come to mind. And Kirby Smart was "smart" to wait for the perfect opportunity which was Georgia. I really don't know what is going to happen with new head coach Deboer. If he can coach Bama players as good as he did at Washington then we could maybe see a NATTY the first year. The first thing that the offense needs is a center that can snap the ball right every time.

I am a 49er fan, went to University of Idaho, and have no connection to Saban whatsoever. That being said, growing up in Boise and being a bsu fan I remember when I was young Saban hating on BSU one time and I hated him forever. I now realize he is the role model/coach I would want my kids to emulate. Being up by alot in a majority of these vids and the complete dominance Bama has accomplished since I was born (1997) I don’t think will ever be repeated.

A Sudden Illness, SeaBiscuit, Unbroken, The Tender Bar, The Wire, Treme, and Red Tails are really important works for me. John was an English teacher and I imagined in mind whether him and Nick Saban would do a workshop on the importance of these works with Joe Burrow and maybe Doug Flutie and Hershel Walker. Sport's Literature matters.
