@@MGoBlue6969 he has a point of about strength of schedule, power rankings, and relative conference strengths though. Bama beat KState by 25 (KState went 1-1 against TCU, both close games), and then UGA blew out TCU by 58 in one of the most lopsided Natties in history. The teams that beat Bama (by 1 and 3 points at their homes on the final plays) won their bowl games against a conference champ and a division winner by 17 and 56. The SEC beat 3 of the other 4 Power 5 champs, and none of those SEC teams were even division winners... The SEC is a bloodbath every year, and with adding OU + Texas he's weary that the playoff committee won't properly judge valuable criteria moving forward, and will value silly stuff like "these teams both have 1 loss, they must be similar". We're already going to have a G5 champ with an auto-bid who will almost 100% proceed to be a dog by 21 against the first team they play.

This was a gem of an interview. Joel Klatt asked pertinent and prescient questions and elicited some candid and straightforward replies from Nick Saban. And, without making it about himself, Joel also included some timely and appropriate self-disclosure, particularly parlaying off the opening question about "the chase and the capture." As one who has a lifelong passion for college football, Joel gets his own version of the "chase" every week during the fall by his thorough preparation for the broadcast, but the "capture" moment is only knowing he and his teammates at his network did a good job bringing the game to the people and not that exuberance of a winning lockerroom. I believe that is prevalent among all those who transitioned from the field to the booth, but it is extremely rare to hear one admit it.

I graduated college in 2022 with the full intent on becoming a high school coach & teaching with aspirations of being a HFB coach one day. But after seeing it and being around it, I’m not sure if I’m willing to give up my time away from my family. I love the competition, the sport, mentoring these kids, but I can’t put it before my family. Still trying to find that balance in the industry so it comforted me hearing you say this. Great interview, Mr. Klatt, keep being great.

Klatt don’t want that smoke. And although his job is difficult and he puts in lots of hours it is nothing like coaching college football. He makes the same money now, way more job security, is able to use his gift, and can spend no time with his family. Coach Saban is God’s gift to us all. He gets it.

The best record =/= the best team argument really annoys me. If you lost 2 games this season...you aren't the best team. Even if the team that got into the playoffs is from a weaker conference and doesn't win, it doesn't mean they didn't deserve to at least have a shot due to their record alone.
@edlawn5481

One team might be better at the end of the season due to injuries on the other teams. You rarely get teams at full-strength at playoff time.
@jameson2916
@jameson2916 11 ай бұрын
That would be true if we didn't have conferences. But we do. And having a good record in your conference does mean you have a shot at the title, the conference title... That's literally what that's for.. When you talk playoffs you're talking National. It's just good sense. You think Bama fans enjoyed watching Bama slap Cincinnati around like a high school team? We were not a running team that year and we're lucky to even be considered one of the best in the SEC. Yet Alabama ground and pounded them all over the field and you can tell they weren't even really trying and knew exactly how to handle them. You can't tell me there's not another team out there who had done more to earn that limited playoff spot than Cincinnati. If it's evident that they were a star team that deserved a shot, that's one thing. But they weren't, they just had a good record. There is a reason some nations currency is worth more than others.
