I have nothing but respect for Nick Saban as a Georgia fan. I feel a lot better about our chances to win it all this year but then again we’re still playing in the toughest conference, have to win at least 3 playoff games in a row, and in some tough away games. Nick is right. not all 4 conferences are equal, it shouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know that. it’s why you take the 12 best abstract teams 1 to 12 and make a playoff. not get the Big-12 champion and the G5 bid when they’re getting the doors blown off by them as soon as the first round commences. we saw Liberty vs Oregon this past year. what happened in that game? exactly. and Oregon wasn’t even a top 4 team. I don’t wanna see a potential “cinderella” because that “cinderella story” isn’t happening!! 12 is too much imo anyway. we already know the top 4 going into the season: Georgia Texas Oregon Ohio State. then you have the wildcards Alabama and for what it’s worth-Michigan. I highly doubt anyone else would win the championship this year.

Do you care about the growth and popularity of the sport? If they were to limit the opportunity to compete on the big stages to two geographically confined areas while alienating 70% of the country, would that help college football, or would it create an unprecedented level of disinterest?

Huh? That makes no sense. CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS WITH ONE LOST we’re getting left out cause they wanted to keep it 4 dude. It was unfair to most teams. Especially when it’s the same cycle of teams going to The playoffs each other. Who to say we would have the champions we have today if we started with this 12 team? You gotta have some parody in fast pace sports bub
@landonwinstead8205
@landonwinstead8205 Ай бұрын
We also saw UCF beat Auburn in 2017, We also saw Tulane beat USC. Every sport allows the conference champions to go because they earned a chance to prove people wrong. If they lose, then they lose. If they win it just shows how wrong people were and i see it all the time in basketball. Literally this year NC State went to the final four, A team that shouldnt even have gone to the tournament, but they were beating teams no one thought they would beat. If a team wants to play in the tournament, then win your conference, its that simple. The other reasons these group of 5 teams are never any good is because people do not want to go there because for the longest time, even if you go undefeated, you dont go play for a title. Boise State did that for almost 3 years in a row and never went, why would anyone want to go play for Boise State, or App State when even if they play their best and do everything the CFP Committee wants them to do, they will be left out anyway. It doesn't make sense. If people really think the group of 5 is that bad then make it a separate division, otherwise its unfair to the players that play at those colleges.
@GoatedAtNFS

@@MultiKushiethe “parody” is just more SEC and B1G teams. and then people will blame the committee for being biased. and those same people are the ones whining about “we want expansion” 4 SEC bids 3 B1G bids 1 ACC bid 1 Big-12 bid then Notre Dame and a G5. look past the 10 years and the deserving team is 2-9 in the CFP. BCS was flawed, 4 team was flawed, we all knew that. but by the end of the season, you had a large enough sample size to know who the best in the country is. the Pac-12 was the weakest for a long time and didn’t deserve in for a number of years

I loved how Nick Saban talked about conferences not being the same. Everybody knows every conference outside of the SEC has been a cake walk. The SEC is miles above any other conference.. losing is going to happen. Anything can happen on any given night. Just bc you won your conference championship doesn’t mean you should just get in the 12 team playoffs. It’s about competition There’s a saying in boxing.. “it’s not about how many people you beat.. it’s about who you beat!”

Alabama went 9-0 in the SEC and lost to Texas and Michigan. The SEC got its reputation by playing really tough defense throughout the conference. Nowadays, the defense is trash in the SEC and the conference has been down. And btw, they only play 8 SEC games and they usually schedule four cupcakes and usually there's 6 or 7 SEC teams that are not that competitive. It's all hype. The truth is there's only a team or sometimes two teams in any power conference that has a legit shot at winning a natty. That's regardless of what conference they're playing in.
@nickmoyer9112
@nickmoyer9112 Ай бұрын
@@EdD-it1zsI think with OU and Texas in the conference there’s no doubt anymore it’s the most talented, prestigious conference. Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, are all 5 star elite programs. That’s six Elite programs. Auburn, Ole miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M are also huge programs. Texas and the southeast also produce the most high school talent and I think will see even more Arizona and California athletes going to the SEC now that the Pac12 has collapsed. Btw this is coming from an Oregon fan who’s always hated the SEC and ESPN bias towards them.

When only picking the top four teams, there obviously were some situations where a deserving elite team may have been left out. With 12 spots now, we definitely should be able to get at least the top eight or so best teams. If 12 teams were picked last year, Georgia, Oregon, Florida State, and Ohio State would have been included. In my mind those were the elite teams. I don't agree with Saban that as fans we would have been tripping over who the 10-12 teams were. I think it is a GREAT THING FOR THE SPORT to have the opportunities for various conference champions outside of the SEC and Big Ten to participate. How many times during March Madness have a half dozen or more teams from a supposedly superior conference gotten a lot of those teams knocked off early in the tournament. So, because a 6-7 Auburn team had Alabama on the ropes in the Iron Bowl last year, and only lost by a touchdown to Georgia, does that mean that they are automatically better than various champions from so-called weaker conferences? Of course not. That is the same team that got spanked by New Mexico State 31-10. Obviously, some conferences are stronger than others, and should get some teams in as at-large bids, but lets not get ridiculous with arguments about how a four or five loss SEC team is really better than a team from another conference in the playoff with an automatic bid. Plus, potential recruits and transfer portal guys may now choose a school that they perceive as maybe having an easier path to the playoffs, thus, leveling the playing field some.

Being a massive bama fan born and raised in Alabama, Alabama or Auburn has always been life for people around here, no pro team. It goes Atlanta Braves, Bama or Auburn. I remember being in 8th grade when Saban came to Alabama, my entire school was over the moon, he won us all over soon after and had become a staple of the state, like James Spann, Me-Maw Ivy and some others. He’s missed already, happy he’s staying around in a role, bamas paying him $500,004 a year, he’s worth all of it. He’s the best to ever do it at the college level, HOWEVER, it’s no coincidence two of the greats did it at Alabama, we have the funding and the fans support, to be great. At the moment now Kirby Smart is without a doubt the greatest active coach in NCAA football and will be for a while. Kalen Debour won’t be a Saban, but he can win multiple championships In his tenure at Alabama, especially having Saban around to answer any questions.

say what you will, but it really should be a 16 team tourney with NO TEAM getting a bye. long season and injuries will play a part in this. any team at the end with an extra week to 'rest/heal' has a huge advantage. some might suggest 'unfair'. why is it that every 'fix' just makes this worse?

Out of conference games matter even more for the teams not in the SEC. If the SEC is going to get the benefit of the doubt they need to be made to play other teams in the power 5 conferences. That goes for the Big 12 as well. They need to forced to not just have weak out of conference games. Y'all ran to the SEC for money and am easier time at recruiting cool. Why do people praise Saban so much about walking away from NIL? He paid players when no one else could and then once there was a equal playing field, he used it as a scapegoat
@donjon1179

lol brain dead take. He was trying to warn people that there will be no more dynasties and that basically no one would ever be able recreate or accomplish what his bama teams did and what other dynasties before him did (USC, Florida, etc.) cause there’s no loyalty to sticking to a coach’s vision anymore and that’s what it took to create dynasties. He had top 3 recruiting classes before and after NIL and went to multiple playoff games and natties in the same era. His retiring came from the fact that he was 72 years old and wanted to get more than 4 hours of sleep a night and the fact that every single method he ever built his coaching prowess around was tossed out the window with NIL. The players do not give af about development as much anymore compared to exposure cause in today’s world exposure is just as valuable as development. Shedeur Sanders is a prime example. Talented kid but isn’t as developed and polished as other elite QBs but because of the exposure he’s gotten via NIL and his dad he’s considered a top tier QB. He could have both exposure and development if he has a winning season w Deion before he leaves and proves it in the field but he and other modern players don’t NEED that proven development like they used to cause that was the guarantee w Nick/Bama, it was ‘hey you won’t get paid but you’ll get exposure and development so you’ll be a top pick in the draft and by then you’ll be getting a big multi million dollar contract in the NFL.’ Players today straight up can bypass that cause of exposure and base level talent. He succeeded at both levels but decided he didn’t want to mess with it anymore. Imagine being the best at something for 2 decades and then cause you’re to good at it someone makes a rule that basically takes away all the work you put in to earn certain advantages to be the best. I wouldn’t wanna do it either cause at that point I’ll have realized no matter how good I did it people don’t look at it and respect it and try to recreate it they simply just say well I want a piece of what he’s got but I’m not willing to do what he did to get it so the only way to even the playing field is by bringing me down. Also for the record there are literally documentaries on multiple colleges during Saban’s time where it was beyond obvious they were paying players under the table like Nick did, he just straight up did it better.

While you are trying to over contextualize and over argue your counterpoints, the only thing of note you said was other teams did it and were not successful. I agree, it does not take away from his successful history. But my issue was people praising him from being above the NIL, when he embraced a similar system. Your argument is weak because you have so much non-consequential, subjective opinions in there which takeaway from your main point. You can retry if you want tho

12 teams will have no "stir" on the regular season except for those at 13 and 14 hoping to get in. Yeah it may make teams a little complacent at the end, and LOSE rival games they wouldn't because of mentality. Mentality of a team and the coaches abliity to positively motivate it is as important as 40-40s after practice. But those in the hunt losing to their rivals will just make an adjustment to the final draw. Greeney has to make some excitement statement as that's how he gets payed to foment more. My only thought is of those years AL didn't make it into the 2 or 4 team playoff and having the grace to 12 would have changed Nick's record for the positive. The Cam back at Auburn was spookey, plus Cam was good as an example. Didn't they destroy Oregon? Nick won 9 STRAIGHT SEC championships that AL competed in... 9 some of those years they didn't win a Natty. Now I am nostalgic

Uh hard disagree there........ a 12 team playoff in the BCS would be absolutely brutal. Id argue Alabama and the SEC would have A LOT LESS titles. BCS era , Alabama had ranked seasons not playing for a title in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2010 1999 Alabama - lost to Louisiana tech dude, and the 2nd best team in the B10. In a 12 team youd have to get through Undefeated Bobby Bowden FSU, Virginia Tech with Michael Vick, Tom Osbourne Nebraska, Prime Synder KSU even the G5 team was an undefeated Marshall with Chad Pennington (who beat Miami, Clemson and BYU that season). 2002 Alabama - got rocked by Oklahoma, lost to Auburn, nearly lost to the 2nd best WAC team. In a 12 team youd have to get through golden era Miami, the last undefeated Ohio State team, Prime era USC, Mack Brown Texas, Prime Snyder KSU, the easiest team is a 12-1 Boise State. Yall beat Hawaii by 4. BSU beat Hawaii by 37. 2005 Alabama - lost to LSU and Auburn, nearly lost to Southern Miss - you have to beat Vince Young Texas, Prime heavyweight USC, Prime Paterno Penn State, Troy Smith and AJ Hawk Ohio State, Pat White West Virginia, TCU was the G5 team who went 12-1 beating OU in norman with LT. 2008 - Alabama - yall beat nobody this season. Lost to Florida and Utah. So this year, there were 3 way ties for the top of the B12 (OU, Texas, TTU) and Pac10 (USC, Oregon, Oregon State). Plus you have to get through 2 undefeated G5 teams. One of these team DESTROYED YOU by 17 already. 2010 - This year would be a mind f&ck....... Lets start back to front, because the #12 team could very well have been the actual #12 team that was a 12-1 Nevada with Collin Kapernick who beat 3 P5 teams that season. Do you really wanna be the 5th seed? Also this is the 3RD BEST G5 team in the top 12. #11 would likely be ACC Champion Virginia Tech with Tyrod Taylor. #10 would be Michigan State. #9 would be Alabama with AJ McCarron , #8 would be B12 Champion Oklahoma, #7 would be Boise State (who went 35-1 the previous 3 seasons) with Kellen Moore, #6 would be Arkansas with Darren Mcfadden, #5 would be Stanford with Andrew Luck, #4 would be B10 Champion Wisconsin with Russel Wilson and JJ Watt, #3 would be undefeated TCU with Andy Dalton, #2 would be Oregon, and #1 would be Auburn. Thats pretty ruthless. Alabama and Virginia Tech had the most losses of the bunch. And these G5 team arent 2023 Liberty...... Nevada beat Boise State, Boise State beat Virginia Tech, TCU beat Wisconsin. BSU ranked #2 in offense, #2 in defense, #1 in MOV w/ 4 top 25 wins; TCU ranked #4 in offense, #1 in defense, #2 in MOV w/ 5 top 25 wins.

@@MattBuild4 ok you made some fervent arguments. I am just not sure why they start in 1999, Saban's first year was 2007. 2008 lost the SEC championship to a good Tebow. 2009 DID NOT and did what? I am not going to catalog the rest of the years as you have as I really don't think 12-1 Nevada would have done much against anyone from the SEC at the top. Or the rest of a 12 team playoff, ok let's say they draw some other equivalent team and win somehow. Most of AL losses in all Theaters are a touchdown or less with Saban except for the disaster at San Francisco against Clemson. I can assure you the opportuntiy of 12 teams would have been fertile for AL but we will never know.
@MattBuild4
@MattBuild4 Ай бұрын
@@samthing4thetrack806 The criteria I set was based on your comment that Alabama would win in the BCS and CFP for years they didnt play. I used years in which Alabama was a ranked team but didnt make the championship. If you dont think Nevada would have done a lot, keep in mind they ranked #7 in total offense, thank in large part to CK who put up more rushing and passing yards as a dual threat QB than even Newton did. Am I saying Nevada would win? No, would it be substantially tougher than teams would think playing a 12 seed would be - yes. "Most of AL losses in all Theaters are a touchdown or less with Saban except for the disaster at San Francisco against Clemson" OK and this is true of most teams in the 12 team during the BCS era. If a 12 team playoff existed 2008-2011 Alabama would likely have to play Boise State at some point. In 4 YEARS that program lost by 5 total points. Not ppg per year - in 4 total years..... and they were the 2nd highest ranked G5 team in 3 of those years. There is a reason the G5 literally submitted an 8 team playoff following the 2008 season. They wanted more teams in, and they probably would have upset yall a lot more than youre comfortable with. What you dont appreciate is how many teams were playing at a high level in the BSC era. The BCS was consistently snubbing teams with legitimate claims. Heck in 2008, Texas literally beat the B12 representative vs Florida, and wasnt the rep because of a coin toss...... 2009 5 TEAMS WENT UNDEFEATED.... 2011 Alabama had the same record as 3 other teams (Stanford, Oklahoma State and Boise State).

@@MattBuild4 Ok, you have fervent assertions. I said Nick's record would be more positive. Not that AL would win every year a Natty. @@samthing4thetrack806 Going to 12 as a playoff doesnt really change what happened in the SEC conference. My argument is that Alabama would have MORE post season losses under a 12 team system than they had. I may have assertions, but it is undeniable that there are SEVERAL teams during the BCS that had claims for playing in a title, and the idea that Alabama would clearly beat them is honestly a fantasy imo. Especially in the 2008-2013 timeframe. During this timeframe things got so controversial that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUED FREAKING LEAGUE FOR CORRUPTION! This isnt an assertion even - this literally happened. That should tell you there are more than 2 programs that could compete during the BCS. This should not be news to you.
