I have to admit, when I watched your first outing with the New55 I was left scratching my head as to why you would bother with it. But, now seeing your latest exposures, I completely get it. Those negatives scanned pretty damn well and the tone and clarity of them is mighty tasty. It helps that the prints also look a thousand times better now you have learned the way they are produced. A++ Mr Carver. Also, if you can find a bottle, I highly recommend Sullivan’s Cove whiskeys or Lark distillery whiskey. Both from Tasmania and both top shelf and smooth.

God bless the folks who make New55, I haven’t tried it yet but I will. Back in the day, I shot hundreds of 4x5 polaroids and I am stuck by the number of steps required. I just flipped through 50 Polaroid prints made about 20 years ago and there has been no fading or other problems. Use a spray on lacquer? What? Well they will get there eventually I am sure. That being said, and I speak as a photographer who used Polaroid as my primary medium for years, I don’t understand the benefit over traditional darkroom photography. Some of my Polaroids are my most precious photographs I have ever taken, but I kind of wish now they were traditional negatives. Anyways great topic. Charlie
@nickcarverphoto5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get what you're saying. Having just a print with no negative to show for it isn't ideal. And compared to traditional darkroom, it isn't going to give you any benefits other than the overall look of it. But the uneven development, the bit of solarization, the ragged edges - that's really the draw for me. Limited applications, but it's fun when it works.

If I see the Whisky, I'll probably buy some. There's not much likelihood that I will be getting some New55 as I don't have the setup for it. However I will share my thoughts which are: Isn't the problem with the original results that you were shooting in the desert in a very high-contrast situation that New55 could not manage the dynamic range of. Whereas your garage was an inherently low-contrast situation that it could. And (see I got away with starting a sentence with and) therefore New55 has a lower dynamic range than other film stock? Just my thoughts and I know it's easy to expound from the sidelines, so I'll be quiet now.
