They made regulations for parties and put a cap on how many people they would allow in for safety p, as before they would allow people in, and it would often get overcrowded, I would work the bar for some cash and I can say it would get so bad that people couldn’t move sometimes (not sure of safety) I then quit after finding out about the fire. For a lesser evil, their ad campaigns push a narrative that they're the only way to get affordable mental healthcare, when in reality there's tons of ways to get affordable mental healthcare - most providers have sliding scale payment plans based on your income, and for many of them they can work with you to be like even if you can only afford to come in once a month, they will work with you to get that once a month appointment. The place I go to is free with a lot of insurance providers (Including mine). Meanwhile I know one person said their ONE appointment on Better Help was like $600?? Even though that's significantly more than most other places charge.

From Joplin, MO. The tornado was horrible and my family lived 2 blocks from the pond where Will's body was found. My brother graduated that day, and it was weird knowing I was in the building that day that the graduation video showed. Everyone was just laughing and not caring when the sirens went off, we heard it all the time. The next 20 minutes going home were some of the darkest of my life. My brother was Will's friend, and it was horrible what actually took place. He was missing for days and kids kept hearing "Will is in Springfield hospital," or "he was life flighted to Kansas City." So many people co tinued thinking he was alive until ultimately his body was found - he'd been slammed into the pond and branches covering the bottom held him in place. He was absolutely trapped below and couldn't come to the surface. RIP Will, I hope your family is well

One quick bit of information: Although I'm sure most people watching this are aware, I just wanted to include that almost all automatic garage door openers have a pull cord on the inside of the garage. So, if the power does go out before the door is completely open you can crawl in and pull the cord which disconnects the opener and you can raise the overhead door manually. Hope this helps anyone if they ever find themselves in such a situation.
@joecaldwell9881

@PlutoTheGod Жыл бұрын
@@joecaldwell9881 to be fair it wouldn’t have even mattered. Also, opening a garage door during a tornado pretty much is going to ensure your house getting destroyed as the wind will rush in and start to lift off the roof or entire home depending on how strong.

@@PlutoTheGod Actually not opening all of your doors and windows is far more likely to result in your roof being torn off, than doing so, because of the Air Pressure difference. So he could have been tricked, but this also could have just been another business venture of his or even a form of trafficking for a terrorist cell as back in those days they were pretty much the main suppliers of heroin and they looked for supporters in foreign countries to carry out attacks and smuggling operations for them.

To those of you not accustomed to tornadoes, do NOT remain in a vehicle when you see a twister. Vehicles and even mobile homes become airborne immediately (despite that stupid movie that had the pickup truck driving watching a cow fly by -- the exact opposite would happen). Drive the vehicle over a ditch or any low-lying area and get under it. You're better off lying flat on the ground than taking your chances inside what would be a projectile.
@Strawblarri
@Strawblarri Жыл бұрын
As a weather fanatic, that movie is called TWISTER, the tornadoes are not directly on top of the vehicle, mostly around it, but cannot blame you but it was a multi vortex. also i think cows are lighter than a 1995 dodge ram. (around 6,010 to 6,400 pounds) the movie rated it F-1, which is around 73-112 mph, most likely not enough to toss the truck, but blow it around a bit. @@Strawblarri Many people do not take into account the aerodynamics of cows versus vehicles. It isn't about weight but how much air is going to be able to get UNDER it. Cows aren't entirely stupid, and when a massive storm is coming while they're pastured, they lie down. Try lifting that as opposed to a vehicle that has a good 15 inches of air space under its rather large wheel base. It isn't that cows don't end up blown into people's yards, but it's certainly a whole hell of a lot less common than ending up with a car, truck or mobile home landing there. And I have seen far too much of the latter first hand.
@Strawblarri
@Strawblarri Жыл бұрын
@@josi4251 I agree, its just that even with all that airspace, the winds for an F1 are too low to just pick up a car, more likely to push it or flip it, it is just a 1997 movie after all, so I don't think we should expect it to know how to portray weather greatly.

Well he ended up drinking that night, and tried to drive home wasted. This might be a useful note in the last story: smuggling drugs in East Asia in general is almost always met by death penalty. Every now and then some Australian guy smuggles coke in a surfboard and gets executed before the Australian government can extradite them. About the santika one, obviously there would be a fire. Here in my country Brazil a similar event happened in January 2013, but it was a college party in a local night club. The musicians lit fireworks on the stage inside the club, and almost instantaneously started a fire. The roof was made of a synthetic foam that released toxic gas as it started to burn. The security staff didn't let the panicking people leave the building, fearing they would leave without paying. Lights went off quickly and ppl would stuck themselves into the bathroom thinking it was the exit. Almost 300 people lost their lives, and another dozens became mutilated, the majority of them being college students and teens. Most of them passed out due to asphyxia and fell to the ground, becoming obstacles to the mass crowd running for their lives. Because of the late arriving of rescue, some guys who managed to exit the building in time went back inside to recover victims, but ended suffocating too. Piles of burned corpses were inside the building, and the pictures taken by the firefighters spread all over the city and the country. The club, named Kiss, didn't have an emergency route or license to be functioning. A trial was held only last year to seek justice, but it didn't fully work. It was the biggest tragedy in my state and one of the biggest in Brazil

@tylerthomas2026 actually they accused only some of the group members who bought and lit the fireworks and one of the three owners of the club. But the fire department and the town's major would have to be held accountable too since they didn't do their work in supervise and inspect the club and its license and documents. It was proven that the tragedy happened due to negligence of both owners, staff and authorities, but the court decided, idk why, to not involve the local government and public institutions. And that's still a shame here.

The turn Akmal Shaikh's story ended up taking just fills me with so much rage and sadness. I don't have "severe" bipolar (partially because I'm lucky enough to be medicated), but I have bipolar nonetheless. I can absolutely understand how his untreated potential bipolar could have lead to him making so many hasty and impulsive decisions. It's literally a side effect of mania to be impulsive. I deal with it occasionally via spending sprees and taking on several large projects I can't logically complete. I don't think the argument here should be whether or not he was a good person, because none of us truly knew him, and mental illness almost always has an impact on how you treat others and yourself. What's more important, I think, is that this mentally ill man was executed for something that wasn't his fault, and that, perhaps if he were given a second chance, he could have received help for what he was going through. I believe 100% that part of him taking the offer to go to China and agreeing to carry that suitcase was due to his impulsive habits caused by mental illness. There's also something to be said about this guy from a foreign country not noticing red flags like some stranger asking you to carry a suitcase for them onto a plane, no questions asked. It's something I think anyone could fall for given the right circumstances. I'm also gonna "go out on a limb" so to speak (although I think this assumption is fair), and assume that Islamophobia had something to do with this case, as well. Keep in mind, this was the late 2000s. Very much post-9/11, which lead to Islamophobia around the world despite it happening in the U.S., and China has had a history of discriminating against Muslims in general, from what I understand. I strongly feel like Shaikh's ethnicity and religious beliefs lead to the Chinese government's heinous decision to execute him. It's so unjust and unfair and I can only imagine how crushed he was to find out he'd be executed for a genuine mistake, even after all of his pleas... I'm hoping it's okay for me as a non-Muslim to say this in regards to him passing, but for Akmal Shaikh; Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un...you did not deserve what happened to you...
