I still remember the time I got to drive a 1917 40-horse Case steam tractor. That was fun, and is a hilarious story.

@@mr.sir. So I was at a 4H fair earlier this year in Summer, and they had that little tractor pulling wagons you could ride on if you paid $5. I however, was and still is a broke college student, and I didn't want to pay. However, I still walked up to the tractor, and started talking with the crew, who eventually let me up in the cab. After talking some more, I was told that if I fired the thing so that the fireman could take a break, they'd let me ride in the cab for free. I obviously took that offer, and chucked wood in for two trips around. After that, the fireman came back, and the engineer asked me if I wanted to drive it. I obviously said yes to that too, and after a quick talk about what controlled what, I drove that thing for a lap around the fair. When we got back to the boarding area, I got to blow the biggest of the three whistles that thing had, a B&O 6-chime.

Very nice. Thank you for posting this. You are a lucky dog getting to ride in the cab.

Glad you enjoyed - it was a fun day. As for the cab right, all I can say is right place, right time, and right friends!

Hey Glenn, do you know of any good websites where I can find tons of info, pictures, and diagrams of many different steam locomotives? I'm currently building a Reading E4-a, and I can't find any pictures of the fireman's cab, which I want to detail properly, and my fold-out diagram doesn't give me as many angles as I'd like.

I would reach out to the Reading Technical & Historical Society. They may have some resources for you.

Do they do photo run buys for the history train?
@GlennHolland Жыл бұрын
Where you see them backup and then run by towards Angola, that essentially is a photo run by.
